Kenya's Day of Pride; The Birth of a New Republic

Kenya's Day of Pride; The Birth of a New Republic

Mtani wa Jadi Salute, you have shown the way, this can be achieved without shading blood. Big Up Kenyans

Naona Amolo Odinga ndo anakula naye kiapo kipya .....anashangiliwa katika kila neno analosema kwenye kiapo.Jamaa mpiganaji sana huyu.

WHEN IT IS ALL SAID AND DONE RAILA AMOLO ODINGA WILL GO DOWN AS ONE OF iF NOT THE MOST RESPECTED AND INFLUENTIAL STATESMAN KENYA HAS EVER HAD.

the guy is a force to reckon with in kenya.

Kenyans did the same way, wakubwa hawakupenda lakini sauti ya umma ndiyo ya mwisho.
HONGERA WAKENYA WOTE KWA UJUMLA, MMEONYESHA NJIA SAHIHI.

for anyone to apreciate what kenya has achieved you have to look where the country was 2yrs ago.

In 2008
a divided kenya that was at the brink of a tribal propelled civil war
a grossly rigged and mismaneged election
and economy that had stagnated
a flawed constitution
formed a coalition govt of "equal" patners(which had not been done before in the mordern world) hence there was no example for the kenya govt to follow. They had to blaze their own trail

in 2010
a coalition govt so efficient that it is being copied by zimbabwe
a growing economy
an electoral body so effient that it regained the trust of the citizens
a healing country that got united by the search of a new constitution
above all now kenya has a constitution that can be easily one of the best constitution in the continent

what kenya has achieved in 2 and a half yrs is basically unheard of in africa.

I have to be honest at some points esp the naivasha retreat, i had started to doubt my country but by approving this constitution kenyans have for once and for all proved that they will never ever ever give up on this land we call home.

May the good lord bless and keep my country kenya!!!!!

To see my country learn from its mistakes and mature up makes me wanna shed a tear or two

the issue is not about the constitution, but its implementation. You can draft and pass the best contitution than the one abraham lincoln wrote. However, like most african governments/heads of state, if no one govern based on the constitution, then what's the point?

first of all there is no issue yet, ever since the referendum the small steps towards implementation have been smooth. second abraham lincoln never wrote any constitution

i understand implementation is the most critical step, but you are forgeting you cant implement what you dont have.

my point is we will be implementing one of the best constitutions on the continent and you cant deny that is a very good starting point.

plus the overall point of my post was no about the new constitution but the progress kenya has made from where it was 2yrs ago to where it is today. in just two yrs kenya has moved forward learned from its mistakes and matured big time. that doesnt mean that all work is done NO! There is alotta work left to be done

Sherrif, here's a copy of what the Kenyan constitution contains:
http://www.standardmedia.co.ke/downloads/draft.constitution.pdf
And it says: "CALL BACK YOUR GOVT REPRESENTATIVE IF HE/SHE DOES NOT REPRESENT YOU THE WAY YOU LIKE"
Even if he/she has staid in the office for for a month. That's why Kenyans are so enthusiastic about it (of course among many other things)

I'm not good at history so I don't care whether Lincoln did craft and draft a constitution or not. Let's go back to the facts.
Unless Kenyans solve this puzzling scourge of "Tribalism" I can guarantee you, No matter how best your constitution is or will ever be, you won't get nowhere!! You can not deny that fact!
You may argu that whatever has been done is a good start, Yes it is, but it's just a "smokes screen".

Alright then, we've heard you.. I think the best thing for you is just sit back and relax, don't get stressed with issues that you know less; and which will drive you mad for no reason. Again, nobody said Kenya has reached heaven, we may even get more struggles than before; but at least we have attained something that we as the Kenyans are proud of, and which we know will bring us together than before and achieve more. BTW, it never matters if something is good or not, what matters as said is if people are proud and enthusiastic of what they achieve together, thats when people progress; rather than not knowing what direction to take.

C'mon man, that's not a fact anymore, don't drag us back..

A Kenyan demonstrator gestures during protests in Nairobi against proposed changes to Kenya's constitution 19 July 2005. A planned mass protest against proposed changes to Kenya's constitution fizzled 19 July as police turned out in force to prevent organisers from going ahead with the demonstration in defiance of a government ban. Police briefly used a water cannon and fired several canisters of tear gas at a small group of protestors attempting to march on parliament as lawmakers opened debate on the proposals, witnesses said.

Congratulations Kenya, you have killed two birds with one stone ! First is the way the campaigns were run - free and fair. Second is what has been achieved - the people's constitution. In all fairness it is a mature, reasonable and sound move towards greater transparency, accountability, and good governance. It is my hope that from there Kenya has only one way to march and that is forward toward greater democracy and rule of Law.

Hongereni sana jirani zetu wa Kenya. Tuombeeni nasi siku ifike ya kurekebisha Katiba yetu.

True you guys have achieved something! Aluta continua

Hivi, Katiba mpya inasemaje kuhusu mgawanyo wa ardhi ? Je Wageni wataruhusiwa kumiliki ardhi ? Nauliza hivi kwa sababu Kenya walikuwa wakishinikiza Tanzania iruhusu wageni kumiliki ardhi.
