Beer demand drops in Tanzania? on account of high taxes?
SABMiller, one of the worlds largest brewers, announced growth in lager volumes across most of its markets in Africa. Zambia led the charge with 10 percent growth in lager demand, which the company credits to improved distribution and availability. Ventures Africa reports that Mozambique showed nearly as much enthusiasm, consuming 9 percent more lager than a year before. Uganda raised its demand for the clear beer by 4 percent, while South Africa demanded 3 percent more lager in 2012 than in 2011. Unfortunately Tanzania and Zimbabwe both saw a drop in lager volumes due to new taxes on beer products.
