Yes, until around 2005, they were the most common means of transport for short distances, but motorcycle taxis have virtually taken over. Bicycle taxis are almost non-existent this days.....in any case they are not even popular. Not even in the deep rural parts of the Kisumu county.





These days the cheaper means of transport around the city are either bodaboda motorcycles or tuktuks....bikes are considered too hazardous, they were in fact banned by the city authorities.....in 2005/6 I cant recall the exact year. But I remember that decree triggered quite some furore, with the youths clashing with the police in the streets, protesting the order.
