  • To prevent egg shells from cracking, add a pinch of salt to the water
    before hard-boiling.

  • To get the most juice out of fresh lemons, bring them to room temperature
& roll them under your palm against the kitchen counter before squeezing.

  • If you accidentally over-salt a dish while it's still cooking, drop in a
peeled potato-it absorbs the excess salt for an instant "fix me up."

  • Brush beaten egg white over pie crust before baking to yield a beautiful
    glossy finish.

  • When boiling corn on the cob, add a pinch of sugar to help bring out the
    corn's natural sweetness.

  • To determine whether an egg is fresh, immerse it in a pan of cool, salted
water. If it sinks, it is fresh-if it rises to the surface, throw it away.

  • If you have a problem opening jars: Try using latex dishwashing gloves.
They give a non-slip grip that makes opening jars easy.

  • Potatoes will take food stains off your fingers. Just slice and rub raw
potato on the stains and rinse with water.

  • Apply some lemon juice on the cut surface of the apple to avoid browning. They will look fresh for a longer time

  • Garlic skin comes off easily if the garlic cloves are slightly warmed before peeling.

  • When cooking milk tea, place sauce plate in the base of the pot to avoid over-pouring of the milk.

  • To avoid crying, cut the onions into two parts and place them in water for 15 minutes before chopping them.

  • To keep the vegetables fresh for longer time wrap them in newspaper before putting them in the fridge.

  • To unclog a drain, mix a cup of salt with a cup of baking soda. Pour these into the drain, and then add a pot of boiling water.

  • If you drop an egg on the floor, cover it with salt and let it remain like this for a couple of minutes. You will be able to easily clean the mess with a paper towel.

Do the washing as you cook especially if you have no dishwasher. By the time you finish cooking, the sink is clean. By the time you finish eating, you got only plates to deal with.

Dont try this at home, lol: invest on nice pots and serve all your food in the pots. It means less several bowls to be washed (usisahau mbwembwe za table mat, heat proof)

Thanks for the tips they have open up my mind especially the first tip,now I have the solution on how to prevent egg shell from cracking...thank you MadameX

Here are some more tips:

1.
To peel raw bananas or plantains soak them in boiled water for 5 minutes – peel comes off easily without staining your hands.

2. To peel boiled egg easily, after boiling put it in cold water briefly then peel.

3. To remove garlic smell from your hands (after peeling & chopping), rub your hands with a stainless steel spoon or other stainless steel utensil.

4. To remove bad odor (smell) in your fridge or freezer, put an open container of baking soda somewhere in there.

5. To enjoy delectable fried potatoes or cassava, partially boil the pieces in salted (to taste) water, drain, then fry.

6. If your used cooking oil smells of the last food you cooked in (say fish) do not panic. Just strain the oil then DEODORIZE it by boiling (frying) in it chopped potatoes (viazi ulaya). Your oil will smell like new. Potatoes not only absorb excessive salt in stews but they also absorb odors.

Ukitaka maji yasifoke unapochemsha pasta, tia mafuta ya kupikia kidogo au kijiko cha metal

Ukitaka maandazi au mkate usikakamae baada ya kuoka, pakaa mafuta wakati bado moto moto

Ukitaka kusafisha microwave kule ndani, pakaa tomato ketchup (or paste), heat kidogo kisha futa
