Update:
“Arthdal Chronicles” Confirmed To Start Production On 2nd Season This Year
According to the report, “Arthdal Chronicles” will begin production on its second season in either September or October at the latest.
Song Joong Ki, Jang Dong Gun, Kim Ji Won, and
Kim Ok Bin are expected to reprise their roles, as well as all the other cast members who were not killed off in the first season. The production staff are reportedly working on coming up with a schedule that will accommodate the main actors.
The director, however, will reportedly be changed. The first season was directed by
Kim Won Suk (“Incomplete Life,” “Signal,” “My Mister“) but he had stated from the beginning that he would only direct one season of the show.
Moreover, Kim Won Suk has left the production company Studio Dragon (which produces “Arthdal Chronicles”) and is now working with KakaoM, making the chance of his return to “Arthdal” even unlikelier.
Following the previous reports of a second season, another report stated that
Kim Kyu Tae and
Hong Jong Chan will be directing the second season. Kim Kyu Tae previously directed dramas including “It’s Okay, That’s Love,” “
Iris,” “That Winter, The Wind Blows,” and “Scarlet Heart: Goryeo.”
Hong Jong Chan has worked on dramas such as “Dear My Friends,” “Life,” and “Her Private Life.”
The first season aired in three parts (six episodes per part) for a total of 18 episodes last year. It reportedly cost over 50 billion won (about $42.4 million) to produce.
