LiST OF AFRICAN COUNTRIES BY GDP 2018

If you mean ‘success of an economy’ then nominal GDP is a better indicator. People here assume that all countries are equal and therefore if I can buy something in Tanzania with half the price it would cost in Kenya then that means I am better off in Tz.

This is false.
This could be an indicator that in tanzania the barber is as poor as the customer and is willing to give him a service which is logical and relative proportionally to his miserable income per real money.

Also the GDP nominal is a better measure for a country dealing in foreign trade, imports and exports.

But for a nation dealing mostly in domestic trade, the GDP PPP is a better measure.

mimi ni mwanafunzi wa economics so I think I know what PPP is in and out...but I want you to explain the reason why Indonesia has a higher PPP than the UK as per this list below...does this mean that the average Indonesian is wealthier than the avg Briton? also explain why China is on top of the US...also explain why India is number 3 juu ya Japan, UK, Canada, Australia licha ya kuwa nchi maskini wa kutupwa kila mtu analijua hilo...

Ila that cant happen under Uhuruto.

Hawa hawana fahamu. No matter how much you over simplify this concept and break it down to a child’s understanding level they are immune to basic intelligence

India ni namba 6 kwa uchumi mkubwa duniani. Umasikini wake ni upi?

Also the GDP nominal is a better measure for a country dealing in foreign trade, imports and exports.
This is cheap from you, I get the feeling that you know the truth but you chose to ignore it.
Miserable services?
Kwanini Kenya beer ni expensive kuliko Tanzania? taxes
Kwanini bei ya gas imepanda Kenya kuliko Tanzania? Taxes
Kwanini China has more exports revenues than European Union and US ? Taxes
Beer of the same quality sell cheaper in Tz than in Kenya.
Gas of the same quality sell cheaper in Tz than in Kenya.
SNS which is free in Tanzania in Uganda you get charged 200 shillings.
Similar services are cheaper in Tanzania than in other EA countries.

90% of South Africans live as squatters in some shithole slums they could hardly argue bout the importance of having a greater GDP. PPP ndio kila kitu mzee

Tanzania tuna maisha mazuri kuliko Kenya yenye GDP kubwa

Kwenye nadharia za uchumi hasa wa kibepari hakuna kitu inaitwa equality bali equity so assuming in equity terms GDP Per capita ni kipimo kizuri kuliko GDP ppp unapolinganisha ubora wa maisha baina ya nchi na nchi coz ppp ikiwa kubwa manake kipato ni duni ukirefer ile the higher the income the higher the consumption ambapo automatically itaongeza cost of living.

wewe wacha bangi. PPP ndio kila kitu labda in your shithole village in Tz.

SA is highly developed hata huwezi compared to Nigeria. Infact Without oil revenue Nigeria would be at par with Congo in terms of development & poverty.
SA economy Yao is highly diversified, quality of life iko mbele ya Nigeria by wide berth.

Miji Ya SA, Cape Town, Jo burg, Durban, Pretoria na kadhalika dwarfs akina Abuja, Lagos, Kano.

SA’s infrastructure is superior, workforce ni advanced, Military, Police, Govt institutions, Judiciary you name it they dwarf Nigeria.

Only a crazy person can celebrate PPP.
Imagine Indonesia:a 3rd world country celebrating na kujigamba eti wako rich kuliko jirani wao Singapore: 1st world developed ama kuliko UK, Canada, France??

Nigeria & India (also 3rd highest PPP in the world ) both wanangagania the trophy of country withlargest people living in poverty ile extreme. Ile poverty ya kufa kupona!.
So wacheni upuzi, hakuna haja ya kurudia this point >PPP si kipimo cha maisha mazuri ama uchumi ama wealth, Simply ni a formula of comparing exchange of a basket of goods in both countries with constant variables.
Nigeria has become the poverty capital of the world

Let me summarize further the difference.

A rule of thumb for understanding GDP’s PPP and nominal is that PPP is how much of a local good (like real estate, labor, or locally grown produce) a person can buy in their country, and nominal is roughly how much of an internationally traded good (diamonds, Computers, Snickers bars) a person can buy in their country.

Thus, developing countries tend to have a higher (better) PPP than nominal, while developed countries have higher nominal than PPP. You can get dinner for $10 or a DVD player for $100 in the US, or you can get dinner for $2 or a DVD player for $100 in China. If you compare a Chinese person making $20 a day to an American making $150 a day, the Chinese person is slightly poorer in dinners than the American (1/10 of income versus 1/15), but is a lot poorer in DVD players than the American (5x income versus 2/3 of income). See how that works?
Nominal and PPP are identical in the US, because USD is used as the benchmark. But in all of the most developed countries except the US, the nominal is higher.
Another way to think about this is that, as a country’s citizens get richer and richer, they are more easily able to acquire international goods, but any good that must be provided by others of its own rich citizens, like college education, health care, taxis, etc. is going to get more expensive.

Anybody claiming that ppp is a better measure must say what it measures best.
GDP Nominal best measures how successful an economy is,
GDP PPP measures how more efficient an economy is..

Kwenye nadharia za uchumi hasa wa kibepari hakuna kitu inaitwa equality bali equity so assuming in equity terms GDP Per capita ni kipimo kizuri kuliko GDP ppp unapolinganisha ubora wa maisha baina ya nchi na nchi coz ppp ikiwa kubwa manake kipato ni duni ukirefer ile the higher the income the higher the consumption ambapo automatically itaongeza cost of living.
Gas is cheaper in Tanzania than in other East African countries.
Cement is cheaper in Tanzania than in Kenya ( 600 ksh for a bag in retail business while in Kenya you get a discount of 650 ksh for 200 bags )
GPD Per capita is not a measure of personal income. In a capitalistic economy 10 people can overshadow hundred of thousands.
And just asking this, which GDP adjusted to per capita are you referring to? Is it nominal or purchasing power?
