September 2021 - Captain Joe
Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Norwich City in the third round of the Carabao Cup was notable for the debuts of Kaide Gordon, Tyler Morton and Conor Bradley, but it had special significance for Gomez too.

It marked the first time he had captained the Reds in a competitive match, and he has gone on to do so on three more occasions since.

October 2022 - Standing tall at Anfield
It may have been an underwhelming season generally, but the 2022-23 campaign still had its high points.

Victory over eventual champions Manchester City at Anfield, for example, stands out, and Gomez played a key role in that triumph, shackling the prolific Erling Haaland superbly as the Reds won out thanks to Salah’s second-half goal.

It also spoke to Gomez’s versatility. Three days earlier, he had shone at right-back in a Champions League clash at Rangers, providing a stunning assist for Roberto Firmino as the Reds won 7-1 at Ibrox.

2023-24 - Klopp’s Mr Versatile
If last season was difficult, both for Liverpool and for Gomez, this term has marked an impressive return to form.

Only Darwin Nunez has appeared more times in all competitions than Gomez, with the 26-year-old emerging as Klopp’s Mr Versatile, performing with distinction as a centre-back, a right-back or, more recently, as a left-back with both Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas sidelined through injury.

Gomez’s form in this campaign has been excellent. “He is absolutely back to his best,” Klopp said earlier this month. “He is still a young man – it is crazy to think that.

“He is just for us a super-important player. He can play all the positions at the back and that is very important.”

As the song goes: 'Ain’t nobody, like Joe Gomez…'

EXCLUSIVE: Jordan Henderson has reached an agreement with Al Ettifaq to leave the Saudi Pro League club and is close to joining Ajax on a permanent basis.

The England international and his current side are in the process of finalising the termination of a three-year contract that he signed last summer, ensuring no transfer fee will be involved in the midfielder’s exit.

Meanwhile, Henderson is flying back to the UK from Al Ettifaq’s winter training camp in Abu Dhabi, having agreed a switch to Ajax in principle.

Joe Gomez has played right back, centre back and left back this season and locked up everyone. He's been sensational week in week out.
