Andoni Iraola, asked about Alexis Mac Allister’s comments that something wasn’t right in Liverpool’s dressing room last season:

“Last season must have been very difficult for the club as a whole because of the tragedy involving Diogo. It must have been a difficult time for the squad and everyone at the club.

“I think Arne Slot did a very, very good job. He played a different style from the one we use, but he did very well.

“The team probably needed a change. Not specifically a change to me, but a change in general. I’m happy because I’ve found a squad with a real willingness, and for me that foundation is almost the most important thing.”

[🟢] NEW: As things stand, Liverpool do not intend to offer Alexis Mac Allister a new contract. They will be looking for at least one midfielder in 2027.

They like Alex Scott, but Chelsea consider themselves favourites for the January window. Lamine Camara and Manu Koné also have admirers within the Anfield hierarchy.

🚨 Sergi Cardona on facing Rio Ngumoha:
“People watching at home probably thought we weren’t defending properly. I understand that.

But there was something very annoying about playing against Rio.

Normally, when you’re facing a winger, you try to work out what he wants to do. Does he want to go outside? Does he want to come inside? Is he waiting for support?

With Rio Ngumoha, I couldn’t work it out.

The first time he came towards me, I thought he was going outside. He came inside.

The next time, I remembered what happened and tried to stop him coming inside.

He went outside.

Then there was another situation where I decided I wasn’t going to make the first move.

I thought, ‘Fine. Let’s see what you do now.’

He stopped with the ball.

I stopped.

For a moment, we were both just standing there looking at each other.

Then he moved, and somehow I was running towards our own goal again.

I remember speaking to my teammate. I told him, ‘When he gets the ball, come closer. Don’t leave me alone.’

He said, ‘I was close to you the last time.’

I said, ‘Then come closer than that.’

That’s how difficult it was.

And the worst thing was that he didn’t look tired. You’d make a challenge, recover your position, and he’d be asking for the ball again.

At one point, I looked towards our bench because I thought maybe the manager had an idea.

He was watching the same thing I was watching.

Listen, I’ve played against quick players before. I’ve played against technically gifted players. That’s football.

But this boy is 18, playing in the Champions League, and he was attacking us as though somebody had told him we were the youth team.

After the match, one of the guys said, ‘He’s going to be a very good player.’

I told him, ‘Yes, but I would’ve preferred to discover that on television.’

I wish him a great career.

I just hope the next time Liverpool play us, he has something else planned for the evening.”

🚨 Roy Keane on Ronald Araujo’s performance today.

Reporter🗣️: Araujo put in a strong display. What did you make of him today?

Keane🗣️: “He was excellent from start to finish. Proper defender’s performance. He won his headers, timed his tackles well and didn’t give the opposition an inch when they tried to get at him. That’s exactly what you want from a centre-back at this level.

“A lot of fans have been saying he looked composed and strong all afternoon and they’re right. He dealt with everything that came his way, organised the back line and helped the team keep control of the game. You could see the confidence growing in him as the minutes went on.

“He wasn’t just solid defensively either. He stepped out with the ball when it was needed and didn’t panic under pressure. Those are the little things that make a difference. Liverpool need that kind of reliability at the back and he delivered it today.

“That’s the standard he has to hit every week now. If he keeps doing that, he’ll be a big asset for this team. Very good performance all round.”
