Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's daughter outed as a Liverpool fan

Kenny Dalglish was charged with taking Liverpool back to the big time - but it seems King Kenny's influence may reach further than anticipated as even Hollywood stars Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have bought into the Reds revival.

The A-list couple, who have recently been in England, were spotted leaving Los Angeles International airport with their brood of children – where one was spotted sporting a Liverpool string bag.

Little Shiloh used the carrier to transport her London souvenier bear under the guidance of her Tomb Raider actress mum, who has previously insisted her son Maddox would 'only be allowed to play for the Reds'.

The Pitt/Jolie family are the latest to join the celebrity Kop fan club, which already boasts the likes of Samuel L Jackson, 007 Daniel Craig, Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg and Nelson Mandela (Mandela? Wow!!!).

Arsenal are probably the only other English side who could rival the Reds in the celeb stakes, with Jay-Z, Kevin Costner, and Alan Davies all avid supporters.

Liverpool sign Stewart Downing from Aston Villa

Liverpool have signed England winger Stewart Downing from Aston Villa for an undisclosed fee.

The 26-year-old, who joined Villa from Middlesbrough for an initial fee of £10m in 2009, handed in a transfer request earlier this week.

Downing, capped 27 times by England, has agreed a long-term deal at Anfield.

Liverpool have also signed Jordan Henderson from Sunderland, Blackpool's Charlie Adam and Brazilian goalkeeper Alexander Doni during the close season.

"With the tradition, the manager and the players they have here, there was a big temptation to come and once I knew of their interest, there was only one place I wanted to go."

Downing began his career at Middlesbrough where he spent eight years before moving to Villa in 2009 for an initial fee of £10m rising to £12m depending on appearances.

He won the first of his 27 England caps in a friendly against the Netherlands in 2005, when he came on as a second-half substitute. He has yet to score for the national side.

Man United boss Alex Ferguson wary of Liverpool threat

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson says he expects Liverpool to challenge for honours next season.

The Anfield club have not won the Premier League title for 21 years and finished sixth in the league last term.

But Ferguson thinks Liverpool, under boss Kenny Dalglish, will be a major threat next term.

"Liverpool went off the radar for a bit. They are now back on it," Ferguson said. "Long-term you know they are going to be there."
