I don't keep records. But I remember of kidnappings especially at the coast. Mostly for ransom.
They had exported their piracy to Kenyan borders.

Not to mention their Indian ocean piracy that was affecting shipping to Kenya.

Most importantly, the humanitarian problem. Kenya did not have the resources to continue supporting and accommodating Somali refugees forever.
We had to move in and bring stability.

There were no single attach from Alshabab before KDF went to Somalia, just few incidences of kidnapping of tourists around the border with Somalia, their aim was to get money, no singer Kenyan was killed by Alshabab. After KDF invasion to Somalia, about thousand Kenyans have lost their lives, with huge number of attacks across Kenya, more so around coast and Nairobi.

This is not a coventional war against a conventional army, if it would have been we would have won a long time ago. I think that answer you have referred me too is just hogwash. Terrorism is not something KDF can replicate, KDF can't send its cadre to detonate bombs in market places and places of worship in Kismayoo and kill innocent civilians. Show me a war against terrorists, away from a real battlefield, in the world that has ever been 'won'. I think am being as critical as I can be.

There was one big story months before we sent KDF to Somalia. Pirates had hijacked a ship bringing weapons through Mombasa. It was just one of the many (almost weekly) cases of piracy.
That's an economic war on Kenya, and a bigger reason to attack than any grenade Al Shabaab could have dropped in Kenya.

Unlike the laid back attitude in Tanzania, Kenya is ambitious. That's why we invest heavily in the peace and stability of our neighbors, who eventually become our largest trade partners.

There is even some news that at one incident, Alshabaab held soldiers captive for many hours and enjoyed themselves sexualy then left.

Is Somalia stable? How could you say that? Do you know alshabab, which has links to al-Qaeda, controls most southern and central areas, while the UN-backed government only runs the capital, Mogadishu and a few small areas.
