6 Negative Side Affects To Eating Genetically Modified Foods



Genetically modified organisms also known as (GMO’s) can be found in as many as 60-70% of the foods in the US.
As we have written about in the past dangers of GMO’s, a genetically modified organism according to The Non-GMO Project are organisms that have been created through the gene-splicing techniques of biotechnology (also called genetic engineering, or GE).

This relatively new science allows DNA from one species to be injected into another species in a lab, creating combination’s of plant, animal, bacteria, and viral genes that do not occur in nature or through traditional crossbreeding methods. The use of genetically modified organisms in foods was recently banned in Europe, but the US isn’t to that point yet due to the highly political nature of what is keeping GMO’s on the market and in our food.
Here are six of the dangers that have been discovered by consuming genetically modified foods…

1. Food Allergy Symptoms Increase Dramatically



According to scientific research, it has been shown that those who eat genetically modified foods tend to see an increase in their allergic reactions to the types of foods they are already allergic too. By eating these genitically modified foods people also form allergies to foods which they were never allergic to before.

2. Bodily Toxicity Increases

As individuals ingest more and more genetically modified foods and organisms into their body it has been shown that the bodies toxicity increases which leads to a ton of other potentially serious health problems. 3. Negative Reproductive Effects

In lab tests done on animals there were cases where once the animals ingested genetically modified food they became completely sterile in a matter of weeks. What was interesting in fact was that in some cases these animals were force fed the food because they didn’t want to eat it themselves naturally.

4. Negative Effects To Digestive System

They are finding that GMO’s are a breeding ground for bacteria and virus’s and since the digestive system is where the body is exposed when ingesting these harmful foods, reversing the damaging effects of these foods is nearly impossible. In other cases on mice and rats, there is documented proof that the digestive system grows bigger for some strange reason.

5. Unknown Genetic Effects On Humans

The jury is still out on all of the known causes about how Genetically Modified Organisms will negatively affect the greater human race, so it would be best to avoid them at all costs knowing the long term health risks of ingesting these foods on a regular basis.

6. Death

In some cases death has also been a challenge in working with GMO foods where rats and mice die in a matter of weeks by eating genetically modified food.
As everything adds up over time, and the more these genetically modified foods are pushed on us as Americans, knowing the dangers going in and actively speaking out against it may save more lives now and in the future.

Yes brother, mimi nina kanuni ya ulaji inayozingatia vyakula vya asili. Kuna wenzangu na mimi wa 'magorofani' wananiona wa bara kwa kuwa ni mshamba wa kula Junk Food lakini mshamba mimi ndiyo kila kukicha nawatembelea hawa dudes TMJ,Ocean road na hospital nyingine 'za kishua' wakipigania uhai wao baada ya kupata maradhi aina aina kutokana na ulaji wa vyakula vya maabara!

Kuna maswali ya kujiuliza,ni kwanini waathirika wakubwa wa ulagi huu mbovu ni wale waliopata exposure tu?
Kwanini sijasikia mtoto wa kilosa anayekula samaki wa mto Kilosa/Kilombero na kijana wa mbeya anayekula mchele wa bonde la usangu hawapati madhara haya?
Kwanini hayawatokei wanaokula kuku wa kienyeji wa kwa bibi Damian wa Muheza? Mbona wanakula dagaa uduvi sijakutana nao hata mmoja akiugulia maradhi ya moyo?

Thank you for sharing this information. I would to move the US related discussions on GMOs to our own context. While we understand Tanzania plans to produce Bt Cotton as a panacea to most of the production related challenges, there is limited knowledge on the part of producers as well as consumers. I would like to hinge my point on two different angle
  1. Knowledge of legal provisions on damages resulting from use of GMOs or any other outcomes related to
We are made to understand that GMO companies have contractual obligations to ensure producers are delivering GMO products without any contamination from the field - that could be the result of cross-pollination. We all understand that most of our agric produce are pollinated through wind and or insects - which makes it difficult to control how the pollination occur. Usually owners of GMO fields would sue the non-GMOs crops for letting/allowing their produce to contaminate GMO farms and not the other way round.
On similar note, legally Tanzania allows GMOs (not sure about threshold) but the companies that are pro-GMOs have been putting pressure on specific clauses on the current GMO related laws. Companies would have the clause on Strict Liability removed! One would ask, if the GMOs are assured of their products and that there is not primary and or secondary effect resulting from the use of their products, why worry?

More, so it is on ability of our producers -smallholder farmers in particular to afford related costs on GMOs produce. They are highly dependent on inputs fertilizer and chemical. There is a real danger also on the environment. Do we know the short, medium and long-term effect of such product to the environment (including soil and life in general in and on the soil surface?)
  1. What is the current status on GMOs product use.
There is evidence of GMO products in most of our supermarkets as well as other shops, particularly vyakula vya lishe kwa watoto! However, the lebbeling might not be proper, in such a way that, someone might need extra knowledge to point out such products. Actually if the government is serious enough, it might not be difficult for them to identify such products. Unfortunately the people and business being targeted by our TDFA are waoka mikate, na wauzaji wa dawa baridi, and possibly not the big shop owners
While Bt cotton and Wema maize could be the "known" products to be produced, but there is a strong case to find out whether the current pressure to use improve hybrids (mbegu chotara......) do not end up importing the GMO related produce.

Mimi nakaa maeneo ya Mkuranga, na kila mara ninapita karibu na kiwanda cha kutengeneza juice. Lakini zipo hisia kuwa wamiliki hutumia concentrates zilizoagizwa kutoka nje badala ya maembe/machungwa/mananasi halisi. Kwa vyovyote vile uwapo wa viwanda vya kuongeza thamani ni fursa nzuri kwa wazalishaji wadogo na wafanyabiashara wa kati kuingia kama washiriki kwenye mnyororo wa thamani. Changamoto iliyopo hapa ni jinsi gani kumlinda mlaji wakati huo huo tukiimalisha upande wa supply bila kuathiri haki zao na afya za walaji kwa kuwabambikizia mazao (products) yenye uhandisi wa kinasaba wa geni!
Kwa hiyo, ndiyo mafuso nimeyaona, na pengine nimeshiriki kuuza mazao (mkulima mimi) kwenye kiwanda kimojawapo,,,,,lakini huo sio ushahidi kuwa wenye viwanda hawawezi kuingiza products za uhandisi wa geni pia.
umeshawahi kuona mafuso ya maembe au machungwa nje ya kiwanda chochote cha juice?
