Dear Mr. William Ruto, Si Heri Utunyonge Basi

KEY POINTS

Why are you doing everything they said you are capable of? Uhuru Kenyatta said it. You have proved him right, 150 percent. Raila Odinga screamed about you. You called him a witch. But you have gone ahead and made him an angel by doing exactly the things he warned us about you.

Dear Mr. William Ruto,

First, allow me to call you using the title “Mr.” because I feel using the name “President” makes you feel Godish, untouchable, unbeatable, unbwogable, omnipresent, omniscient, and anything mighty, terrifying, scary, and instant. Oh, I Hail you Mr.!

Allow me to ask you these, sir; why are you doing this? Honestly, why are you doing this? What is your end goal? What is your mission? What are you looking to achieve? Just tell us so that even as we die, we shall die knowing you killed us.

Why are you doing everything they said you are capable of? Uhuru Kenyatta said it. You have proved him right, 150 percent. Raila Odinga screamed about you. You called him a witch. But you have gone ahead and made him an angel by doing exactly the things he warned us about you.

Let me remind you something, you came to power because of the millions of poor people. You sold them hope. They believe in you. You told them as soon as you become their President, they will no longer cry. They will walk in a land full of milk and honey.

You came to them with the Bible. You told them the ways of heaven and told them how God had sent you and your choir members to save them from the bondage of dynasty. They screamed, and cried with joy for you, their savior, had finally come.

But now, why have you turned against them? Why does it look like your mission is to see them dead? Why is it that the more they scream to you for help, the more you hit them hard? Again, why exactly are you doing this to this country? Why?

Taxes on fuel are now at 16 percent, we kept mum. You gave us the housing levy, but we still maintained calm. Doubled the price of KPLC tokens, but we still bought them.

Now you want us to pay 1,000 shillings to get a new ID, 2,000 shillings to replace a lost ID, 7,500 to get a 34-page passport, 20,000 shillings to replace a lost passport, 50,000 shillings just to get a paper that shows we are married, 1.2 million shillings for our kids born out of Kenya to be Kenyans, ah, jameni, si afadhali utunyonge basi?

So Mr. President, just tell us what you want tumalizane. If you want us dead, just send the military to shoot us dead. If there is anything we did wrong, to you or Mama Rachel, we ask that you tell us and be gentle to us. Haki we are tired.

The Gospel truth always hurts!

THIRTY-SECOND WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A

FIRST READING
Wisdom is a kindly spirit, the Spirit of the Lord has filled the world.
WISDOM 1: 1 - 7

Love righteousness, you rulers of the earth, think of the Lord with uprightness, and seek him with sincerity of heart; because he is found by those who do not put him to the test, and manifests himself to those who do not distrust him. For perverse thoughts separate men from God, and when his power is tested, it convicts the foolish; because wisdom will not enter a deceitful soul, nor dwell in a body enslaved to sin. For a holy and disciplined spirit will flee from deceit, and will rise and depart from foolish thoughts, and will be ashamed at the approach of unrighteousness. For wisdom is a kindly spirit and will not free a blasphemer from the guilt of his words; because God is witness of his inmost feelings, and a true observer of his heart, and a hearer of his tongue. Because the Spirit of the Lord has filled the world, and that which holds all things together knows what is said.

The Word of the Lord.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM
Psalm 139: 1 - 3, 4 - 6, 7 - 8, 9 - 10 (R.) 24b

R/. Lead me, Lord, in the way everlasting.

O Lord, you search me and you know me.
You yourself know my resting and my rising;
You discern my thoughts from afar.
You mark when I walk or lie down;
You know all my ways through and through. R/.

Before ever a word is on my tongue,
You know it, O Lord, through and through.
Behind and before, you besiege me,
Your hand ever laid upon me.
Too wonderful for me, this knowledge;
Too high, beyond my reach. R/.

O where can I go from your spirit,
Or where can I flee from your face?
If I climb the heavens, you are there.
If I lie in the grave, you are there. R/.

If I take the wings of the dawn
or dwell at the sea’s furthest end,
even there your hand would lead me;
your right hand would hold me fast. R/.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION
Philippians 2: 15d, 16a

Alleluia.
You will shine as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL
If your brother turns to you seven times, and say, I repent, you must forgive him.
LUKE 17: 1 - 6

At that time: Jesus said to his disciples, “Temptations to sin are sure to come; but woe to him by whom they come! It would be better for him if a millstone were hung round his neck and he were cast into the sea, then that he should cause one of these little ones to sin. Take heed to yourselves; if your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him; and if he sins against you seven times in the day, and turns to you seven times, and says, ‘I repent,’ you must forgive him.” The apostle said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!” And the Lord said, “If you had faith as a grain of mustard seed, you could say to this sycamore tree, ‘Be rooted up, and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.

THIRTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A

FIRST READING
Wisdom is found by those who seek her.
WISDOM 6: 12 - 16

Wisdom is radiant and unfading, and she is easily discerned by those who love her, and is found by those who seek her. She hastens to make herself known to those who desire her. He who rises early to seek her will have no difficulty, for he will find her sitting at his gates. To fix one’s thought on her is perfect understanding, and he who is vigilant on her account will soon be free from care, because she goes about seeking those worthy of her, and she graciously appears to them in their paths, and meets them in every thought.

The Word of the Lord.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM
Psalm 63: 2, 3 - 4, 5 - 6, 7 - 8 (R.) 2b

R. For you my soul is thirsting, O Lord, my God.

O God, you are my God; at dawn I seek you;
for you my soul is thirsting.
For you my flesh is pining,
Like a dry, weary land without water. R.

I have come before you in the sanctuary,
To behold your strength and your glory.
Your loving mercy is better than life:
My lips will speak your praise. R.

I will bless you all my life:
in your name I will lift up my hands.
My soul shall be filled as with a banquet:
With joyful lips, my mouth shall praise you. R.

When I remember you upon my bed,
I muse on you through the watches of the night.
For you have been my strength:
In the shadow of your wings I rejoice. R.

SECOND READING
God will bring with him through Jesus those who have fallen asleep.
1ST THESSALONIANS 4: 13 - 18

We would not have you ignorant, brethren, concerning those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. For this we declare to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, shall not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the archangel’s call, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first; then we who are alive, who are left, shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air; and so shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.

The Word of the Lord.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION
Matthew 24: 42a, 44

Alleluia
Watch, therefore, and be ready; the Son of man is coming at an hour you do not expect.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL
Behold, the bridegroom. Come out to meet him.
MATTHEW 25: 1 - 13

At that time: Jesus told his disciples this parable: “The kingdom of heaven shall be compared to ten maidens who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them; but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. As the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept. But at midnight there was a cry, ‘Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’ “Then all those maidens rose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ “But the wise replied, ‘Perhaps there will not be enough for us and for you; go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.’ “And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast; and the door was shut. Afterward the other maidens came also, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open to us. ’ But he replied, ‘Truly, I say to you, I do not know you. ’ “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.”

Morning Reflection (QT) - Colossians 1:1-14

Introduction.

Today we begin reading the Letter to the Colossians which opens with the apostle Paul’s greeting and prayer of thanksgiving.

Colossae was a small inland city in Asia Minor (modern-day Turkey), about 110 miles east of the major port city of Ephesus in the Lycus River valley.

Among Paul’s purposes in writing the letter was to warn the Colossians about false teachers in their midst and to oppose their teachings with the true Christian message.

Reflection.

What does Paul’s prayer reveal about the things he has heard concerning the Colossians (verses 3-8)? What is Paul’s prayer for the people (verses 9-14)? For whom will you pray today?

Pray.

Almighty God, help me to be strong with all the strength that comes from your glorious power, so that I may endure everything with patience.

With joy I give you thanks for rescuing me from the power of darkness and bringing me safely into the kingdom of your dear Son, Jesus Christ my Lord, by whom you have set me free and offered me forgiveness of my sins.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Colossians 1:1-14

Colossians 1:1

Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother,
Colossians 1:2

Colossians 1:3

We always give thanks to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you,

Colossians 1:4

for we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and the love that you have for all the holy ones

Colossians 1:5

because of the hope reserved for you in heaven. Of this you have already heard through the word of truth, the gospel,

Colossians 1:6

that has come to you. Just as in the whole world it is bearing fruit and growing, so also among you, from the day you heard it and came to know the grace of God in truth,

Colossians 1:7

as you learned it from Epaphras our beloved fellow slave, who is a trustworthy minister of Christ on your behalf

Colossians 1:8

and who also told us of your love in the Spirit.

Colossians 1:9

Therefore, from the day we heard this, we do not cease praying for you and asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding

Colossians 1:10

to live in a manner worthy of the Lord, so as to be fully pleasing, in every good work bearing fruit and growing in the knowledge of God,

strengthened with every power, in accord with his glorious might, for all endurance and patience, with joy

Colossians 1:12

giving thanks to the Father, who has made you fit to share in the inheritance of the holy ones in light.

Colossians 1:13

He delivered us from the power of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son,

Colossians 1:14
in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
