Wataka sanaa iingizwe katika mtaala
Tuesday, 08 February 2011 19:54

Vicky Kimaro

Chelsea yatenga pauni 50 kumnasa Fabregas
Tuesday, 08 February 2011 19:51

LONDON, Uingereza

"Ninajua kila mmoja anaipa nafasi kubwa Sudan.

The Blues are 10 points behind Manchester United and are seemingly back to square one after a run of promising results was followed by Sunday's defeat at home to Liverpool.
Drogba is one of a number of players who has struggled for form and fitness this season, and he fears the Liverpool loss could prove to be a fatal blow.
He said: "We had started to see light at the end of the tunnel once again. But this latest defeat by Liverpool has cut away our legs and jeopardised our chances of winning the league title once more.
"It is going to be difficult for us to catch up with Manchester United."
Chelsea are still in the FA Cup and Champions League, but Drogba is worried about the morale within the squad as the season enters a decisive period.
He added: "Our league position is similar to what it was last season. But absences, and the fact that we've not been scoring as many goals, has made for a bad mood around the place.
"I'm finding our bad spell hard to live with, as do the rest of the squad. We are suffering, given that Chelsea are not accustomed to losing matches. (Manager) Carlo Ancelotti has been unhappy in recent weeks."

Kenya's boxing queen Conjestina "Angel" Achieng' is back and raring to go once again.

Achieng', also fondly known to her fans as ‘Conje', was on Tuesday discharged from Mathari Hospital, where she was admitted a fortnight ago.

"I want to thank God and all those who have supported me. Let them know that whatever happened is through God's will," Achieng', who is also known in the boxing ring as ‘Hands of Stone', told the Nation.

She said she would now concentrate on nurturing new boxing talent, adding that she intends to open a centre in Kisumu to train female boxers through the Conjestina Achieng' Foundation, which she runs.

"It's my dream to see more boxers come up. It's said charity begins at home and that is why I am heading to Kisumu," she said.

Achieng' plans to work with the Kisumu-based Odera Kang'o Foundation to set up the boxing centre.

The boxer also said she will fly out to the United States next month for further training in conjunction with Kenya Professional Boxing Commission (KPBC).

"I will be in the US to train as a professional boxing coach. I am not sure if I will return to the ring or not but let me see how it goes in the US," she said.

KPBC secretary Shabaan Ogolla said one of the best female coaches in the world, Bonie Canino, will take care of Achieng's programme while in the US.

Barca: Cesc deal dead for now

Updated Feb 9, 2011 5:41 AM ET
Barcelona director of football Raul Sanllehi has revealed there are currently no plans to launch another bid for Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas.
The Spaniard's future was the subject of intense speculation last summer as Barcelona tried to bring him back to Camp Nou, where he came through the ranks as a youngster.
TRANSFER SPECIAL

Keep up with all the biggest moves around the globe with our 2011 January transfer gallery.

Fabregas admitted it would be a dream to play for his boyhood club but Arsenal never considered a sale and he respected their decision.
The 23-year-old has since been commended for his attitude over the past few months, having focused on his work with the Gunners and led by example.
Fabregas' performances have helped Arsenal mount a challenge for honours on the domestic and European front and talk of a transfer has subsided.
Reports may resurface in the summer but Sanllehi has described a deal for the midfielder as 'dead' for the present time.
Sanllehi is more concerned at the moment about the damage Fabregas could against his side when Arsenal face Barca in the last 16 of the Champions League.
The first leg takes place at Emirates Stadium next week before Arsene Wenger's men travel to Spain for the return match on 8 March.
While Barca have been in irresistible form all season and start the tie as firm favourites, Sanllehi admits it is a tough draw for both teams.
He said: "Cesc is a great Catalan player. He played for us as a kid and he will be welcome back at Barcelona for the Champions League match.
"Right now, everything is dead regarding a transfer."
Speaking about the European encounter, Sanllehi added: "Arsenal are one of the main challengers for the Champions League.
"We acknowledge how difficult it is going to be."

Gomez claims Chelsea bid

Updated Feb 9, 2011 9:49 AM ET
Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez has claimed Chelsea made a £35.7million bid for his services during the January transfer window.
Gomez, who currently tops the Bundesliga scoring charts, was apparently targeted by the Blues as they looked to bolster their strikeforce.
TRANSFER SPECIAL

Keep up with all the biggest moves around the globe with our 2011 January transfer gallery.

Carlo Ancelotti's side eventually splashed out a staggering £50million to lure Spain international Fernando Torres to Stamford Bridge from Liverpool.
Chelsea's bid for Gomez was rejected by Bayern and the Germany international claims he was initially kept in the dark over their interest.
But the 25-year-old has admitted that he would not have been tempted by a switch to the Premier League champions and FA Cup holders as he is committed to his career at the Allianz Arena.
"I only found out about the offer after the club had turned it down," Gomez told Sport Bild weekly.
"But it wouldn't have mattered anyway. I am already at a top club and I am playing where I always wanted to."
Gomez made a slow start to his career with Bayern following his 30million euros move from Stuttgart in 2009 but has found his feet this term and currently has 16 goals to his name.

Ambitions are high at Eastlands but recent results have seen Roberto Mancini's side slip five points behind Manchester United at the Premier League summit.
A win over their arch-rivals this weekend would cut the gap to two points but Silva would be happy enough with any top-four finish in his first season at the club.
"A good first season for me would be to qualify for the Champions League or to win a trophy," he said. "We will fight for the league title all the way and try to win the other competitions but the target is to finish in the top four.
"Within two or three years it will be normal for City to be playing in the Champions League every year, so I hope we can be on a par and challenge the best clubs around the world.
"I enjoyed six years at Valencia, they discovered me as a footballer and they will always be a special club for me. But the time was right to seek a new challenge and I am thrilled about how things have gone so far.
"The league here is one of the best in the world and I desperately want to bring success to City and win trophies.
"It's true that the game here is a lot faster than in the Spanish league. La Liga is more tactical - we like to move the ball around quickly and pass often - but in England they like to fight and run hard.

"One thing is for certain, over the last few years City's image has grown massively in Spain. The project here is getting more important with every year. It's very exciting that I'm now part of it."
Silva has been an astute signing for City and star striker Carlos Tevez labelled the Spanish playmaker as one of the club's top acquisitions.
"David is the best signing we have made," said Tevez. "He is the type of player who can win you the game. He can provide you with the sort of pass that puts you through one-on-one with the goalkeeper.
"He has freshened up the team and brought a new dimension. We have the players here. The thing we need to do is build the team that the people and all of us want to see.
"It's always a big source of motivation to play alongside great players like David, Edin Dzeko and Mario Balotelli. We have a forward line that can do a lot of damage to opposing teams."

Johnson, who is expected to line-up at right-back in England's friendly against Denmark, had a disappointing start to the season and looked well short of form.
Such has been the form of Martin Kelly that Johnson found himself moved to the opposite flank to cover deficiencies the Reds had there.
His first appearance there was in the 2-1 defeat at Blackpool but he has played on the left in the five matches since, with the last four bringing successive wins and clean sheets.
"You don't become an international regular for England if you are not a good player," said Clarke.
"I worked with Glen at Chelsea and he is always a pleasure to work with.
"I think he has been re-energised with the change and he has switched to the left and proved he can play just as well there as he can on the right.
"It's always good to have adaptable players and when you have people like that who do well for you every week no matter what position they are in then it's a great position for the manager and the coaching staff."
Clarke is also optimistic about the long-term prospects of Joe Cole.
The 29-year-old has had a disappointing debut season for the Reds so far and has missed the last two matches with a knee injury, but Clarke is confident he will soon rediscover his best form.

"He's not joined in with the group (for training) yet but he is on his way back and hopefully before the end of the season we will get a glimpse of the real Joe Cole," added the Scot.
"If Joe can get himself fit and focused on the pitch then he will certainly be a big asset to this squad."
This week's international games have interrupted Liverpool's best run of the season but Clarke is hopeful it will not have an adverse effect on the improvements which have been made under manager Kenny Dalglish.
"It's not ideal having the international friendlies at a time when you want all of your players together, and especially when you are on a good run," he said.
"We are hoping the international break doesn't break the momentum a little bit because we have players going to different parts of the world and we hope they will come back fit and healthy."

AEG explain Beckham deal failure

David Beckham's move to Tottenham collapsed because LA Galaxy would not budge in their insistence of having him for the full season.
Tim Leiweke, the president of the Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) which owns the Galaxy, revealed the decision on Beckham had been his.

Leiweke also confirmed AEG have formed a "strategic alliance" with Tottenham that could see Spurs stars play for the MLS side in the future. AEG and Spurs are already working together on the bid to take over the London Olympic stadium.
Leiweke said in a telephone interview: "I am the one who made the decision about asking David to come back and play a full season of Major League Soccer because we haven't been able to do that, whether due to loans or injury.
"Our commitment has been, 'David, you need to be back here for the MLS season that begins in March.'
"It is because we asked for that commitment that the timeline with Tottenham, as such, meant it was very difficult for them to figure out a way to integrate David into the team.
"But we encouraged David and co-operated about David going to train because there is a relationship with us and [Spurs chairman] Daniel Levy and the Tottenham squad."
Leiweke said links between AEG, the Galaxy and Spurs would continue to get stronger.
He added: "Part of what has been created is a strategic alliance between AEG and Tottenham.
"We are beginning to think outside the box on football and how we do things together on football, whether that's David Beckham training or maybe players from Tottenham coming to the Galaxy (or) playing games against each other.
"So I think strategically you will see more of an alliance between us and Tottenham long term."

Neville backs Rafael at right-back

Updated Feb 9, 2011 6:59 AM ET

The 35-year-old has struggled for a number of seasons and his last two performances - which could have brought dismissal against both Stoke and West Brom - left him certain it was time to walk away.
Neville's decision was made easier by the knowledge young full-back Rafael now has the capability to hold down the job.
At this stage last year, it was impossible to comprehend of such a notion.
But Neville feels the 20-year-old has made excellent progress this term and is confident United can now look ahead positively, knowing the position is tied down for many years to come.
"You can now say we've got a first-choice back-four for the first time in a few years," Neville told United's official website.
"Rafael's always had ability. He gets to the ball quickly, he is aggressive, he defends his position well, he is tough, courageous, good on the ball, he gets forward well and provides energy in attack.
"But he has really developed in the last six months with games and experience.
"He has also got a great attitude. He is more than capable of going on to become United's right-back for many years."
It takes Neville back to when he was a younger member of the United squad, making his own way forward in a dressing room containing the likes of Roy Keane, Peter Schmeichel and Eric Cantona.
"I remember when I was young defender you need that time to mature and get experience," he said.
"We haven't had a consistent right-back in the last couple of years. I have been around. Wes Brown and John O'Shea have played some games as well as Rafael, but in the last four or five months we've had a consistent performer in that position."
Rafael is expected to keep his place for Saturday's eagerly-anticipated duel with Manchester City when, for once, Ferguson will not be sweating on the return of so many international stars.
Edwin van der Sar, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Michael Carrick, Patrice Evra, Dimitar Berbatov and Park Ji-sung offer a pretty solid backbone, in addition to Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans, one of whom will partner Nemanja Vidic in central defence.

Djourou hobbled off during Arsenal's 4-4 draw at Newcastle last weekend, sparking fears he could have suffered a recurrence of the serious knee injury that restricted him to just one appearance last season.
However, Switzerland physio Cuno Wetzel said: "Johan Djourou's knee injury is clearly not as bad as first feared.
"The player suffered very painful bruising on the knee but, if the healing process runs as it should, Djourou could probably begin training in less than one week."
The news comes as a relief to Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger as his only two other fit centre-halves are Laurent Koscielny and Sebastien Squillaci.
Belgium central defender Thomas Vermaelen has been out of action with an Achilles injury since September and is not expected to be back until the end of the month at the earliest.

Fernando Torres has admitted he was lacking enthusiasm at Liverpool and that things "looked black" before he joined Chelsea.

And although he concedes he has joined a "smaller club", he believes it was a move he needed to reignite his love of the game.
The 26-year-old told Spanish radio station Cadena Ser: "Money was not important. I left to improve sporting-wise.
"I thought I would stay one more year and take it as a transition season.
"But a time comes when you lose enthusiasm, you see those in the Spanish national team are playing at a different level.
"Then when everything looked black, Chelsea came and showed a real interest."
Torres is nevertheless grateful to his former club.
"Liverpool will always be very special to me," he added.
"Because of its history, Liverpool is a bigger club but it's going through a difficult time.
"Chelsea is like Manchester United, the strongest over the last 10 years.
"One is not better than the other, I'm just happy to have had the fortune of playing for both of them.
"I have been pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere in the Chelsea changing room. I thought it would be more distant but the atmosphere is very good, they laugh, they joke. It's nice."
Torres is currently back in Madrid preparing for Spain's friendly with Colombia at the Bernabeu on Wednesday night and he admits it is nice to be leaving all the transfer talk behind for a short period.
"These past 10 days have been very intense and it still is," Torres said.
"Everything has gone so quickly and it's as though I have a lot of information in my head.
"It seems that a month has gone by instead of a week.
"I want to enjoy playing with the national team because we are champions of everything.
"This game is good for me to disconnect."

Futbilly, are you the only one not blind? I have been saying the entire time that Torres is a wussy and he should look at himself, it isn't his teammates, the coach's decisions or the other teams. It is all up to him and whether he is going to deliver or not. Brings to mind the huge bully that never had a whipping. BluesFan7, quit making excuses for him, that is one of the reasons he is the way he is, people has always been babying him. Grow up some cojones and get out there and justify your huge tranfer fee and obscene salary.

Then quit football, Torres, you loser. And then give back all the $$$$ Liverpool paid you when you were "lacking enthusiasm". Boy, Chelsea fans will be thrilled with this story. How long until he loses enthusiasm at Stamford Bridge?

Torres has been a whining poof since coming to the EPL. Its too rough, my team mates aren't good enough, etc. He'll never get his form back until he looks in the mirror and realizes he is his own biggest problem. He had his arse kissed everywhere he's been but now he's in a situation where he is going to have to earn his minutes and he is not accoustomed to that. Kalou and Mitovic will not go quitely into the night and compared to Drogbba and Anelka he is a boy against men, pysically and mentally. He would have faired better to step up his effort at Liverpool. Myy2cents

lol @ red... Ahhh Carlo... you should have brought Torres in off the bench. All season I have questioned carlo's moves... It would have been ideal for FT to come in as a sub... That way you leave the team that has started to gel on the pitch, and its a win/win....

If chelsea are winning when you bring him on as a sub, he will be free of pressure & give the team a boost.
If liverpool were in the lead, he comes on as a sub to give the team a boost.

Too soon to just throw him into the lineup with barely any cohesion... Thats why even tho he wasn't playing well, when he was taken off it deflated the team a bit.

Also, dont teams do any scouting? They knew Kenny was messing with the formations & yet he had no speed on the flanks to counter.

I think he meant, Liverpool were "in the black" now that the new owners have come in and erased the debt. He was more comfortable playing for a club in the red. 🙂

Chelsea24-7 yes Lebron should have stayed in CLEVELAND (not Cincy); but that is just my opinion. El Nino should just talk out his emotions with $Ashley Cole, he'll help sort them out. Spidy nice Cat Stevens reference.

Barcelona 'shocked' by Chelsea spending on Torres

Chelsea's 50 million pound ($80 million; €58.6 million) purchase of Fernando Torres from Liverpool shocked officials at Barcelona, its director of football said Tuesday.
Raul Sanllehi said the Spanish champion "would not even consider" paying such a high fee.

"I was shocked by the amount spent. I know Barcelona would not do that signing," Sanllehi said on the sidelines of a meeting of Europe's top clubs, who discussed new UEFA rules to curb transfer spending.
However, he conceded that "Chelsea got stronger and Liverpool got weaker" by making the deal.
"An additional value of those signings was that you diminished the opponent at the same time as strengthening your own team," Sanllehi said.
The Torres deal capped a record January transfer window spree of 225 million pounds ($362 million; €265 million) by English clubs, with Chelsea accounting for more than 70 million pounds ($112 million; €82 million).
Barcelona's total spending was a modest €3 million ($4 million) on PSV Eindhoven midfielder Ibrahim Afellay - a change from its previous spending habits.
Just 18 months ago, Barcelona gave Inter Milan a reported €46 million (then $66 million) plus Samuel Eto'o to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The Ibrahimovic deal helped drive the 2009 European champion's total debts to more than €400 million.
Last year, Barcelona called on emergency refinancing after making a near €80 million loss for the season.
Sanllehi said the need for new money contributed to Barcelona striking its first deal to sell advertising space on its shirts.
The Qatar Foundation, a charitable arm of the gas-rich 2022 World Cup host, will pay Barcelona €150 million ($200 million) over the next five seasons to appear on the iconic blue-and-red kit.
"Let's not fool ourselves, we needed the money. We wouldn't have done it without a lot of money involved for sure," Sanllehi said.
Barcelona had previously gifted UNICEF, the United Nations children's agency, permission to appear on the shirt.
"We looked at the value they were offering," Sanllehi said of the Qatari deal. "Many brands want to associate with us but we've got very strict limits on who we partner with."

LONDON (AP)

The football broadcasters who left British TV station Sky Sports over a sexism row have been hired by a radio station.

The home of the best LIVE soccer and rugby awaits at FoxSoccer.tv -- don't miss a second of the action.

London-based TalkSport announced Tuesday that Richard Keys and Andy Gray will present a three-hour show every weekday from next Monday.
Keys says "this is the start of something new and exciting for Andy and myself."
TalkSport was the outlet used by Keys last month to apologize for making derogatory comments about female assistant referee Sian Massey, West Ham executive Karren Brady and a former girlfriend of player-turned-commentator Jamie Redknapp.
Keys resigned, but Gray was fired after footage of him emerged making a suggestive comment toward a female colleague having already been caught mocking Massey.

Barcelona said Tuesday it has reached an agreement with coach Pep Guardiola for a one-year contract extension.
Barcelona did not reveal the terms of a deal that will keep the 40-year-old former Barcelona player at the helm of the Catalan club until the end of the 2011-12 season.

Barcelona said the deal will be signed "in the coming days."
Barcelona is enjoying perhaps the most successful spell in its 112-year history under Guardiola, who took over from Frank Rijkaard in 2008.
Guardiola had said he preferred to sign one-year extensions over a long-term deal to maintain his motivation.
Since Guardiola took over, Barcelona has won eight major trophies, including two straight Spanish league titles, a Champions League, a European Super Cup and a Club World Cup.
It currently holds a seven-point lead over biggest rival Real Madrid at the top of the table after a league record 16th straight win, which surpassed the previous mark of 15 set by Alfredo di Stefano's 1960-61 Real side. Barcelona also went a club record 28 games without defeat.
The club is on course to set new league records for victories, points total and goals scored and conceded.
Lionel Messi has won two FIFA World Player of the Year awards under Guardiola.

Real Madrid and Barcelona have been machines as far as league play goes. If you stuck them in the EPL, they'd still be battling for first and second, and probably have United chipping away at that third place spot and Chelsea scrounging for fourth.

Calling La Liga a two horse race is ridiculous, when the last time a different team other than Barca/Real won La Liga, was the last time a team different than Chelsea/United won the premier league. As for Guardiola in the EPL, he would be a great coach and anyone who disagrees obviously knows nothing. Everyone says the EPL is the strongest league but the fact of the matter is that Spain has produced more CL and Europa League winners than any other country since the year 2000. Premier League isn't even second on that list.

Pep couldnt compete like this in the Prem. Even if you put him in charge of city, he would tank in a leauge thats not a simple 2 horse race. I mean really, when you only have one rival to fend off in the leauge, isnt it easier to focus on the CL?

Pep was given an option for a long-term contract after his first year there but chose to go the "one-year" route. Sure it creates speculation and some anxiety each year, but I can't see him anywhere else.

Alves: Racism constant in Spain

Brazil right back Daniel Alves says he is subjected to racist insults from spectators in nearly every match he plays with Barcelona in the Spanish league.

Alves told the Brazilian Folha de S. Paulo newspaper on Tuesday that he is constantly insulted and has always been called a monkey during matches.
"Unfortunately, I have learned how to live with it," he said. "Every match the crowd goes after me. They insult me, call me monkey."
He said he was shocked with racism when he arrived to play for Sevilla in 2002, but now doesn't lose a lot of sleep over it.
"I don't give it a lot of importance. I think you are only offended if you make a big deal about it," the 27-year-old player said. "My family gets sad, they complain, but I try to distance myself from it."
Alves said clubs have been trying to act against racism in Spain, but he doesn't see an end to the problem anytime soon.
"They punish the clubs sometimes, but it's uncontrollable," he said. "It will never end."
Alves is in Paris with Brazil for a friendly against France on Wednesday. He played for Brazil at the World Cup in South Africa.
