Yanga malumbano

"Huyo Manji mwenyewe mpaka sasa mkutano mkuu haujampitisha bado, halafu yeye analeta watu wengine, tena bila Kamati ya Utendaji kuamua wala mkutano mkuu, hapana hili sasa halikubaliki,"alisema.

Yanga elders condemn trouble makers

By DAILY NEWS Reporter, 19th January 2011 @ 11:00, Total Comments: 0, Hits: 62

YOUNG Africans elders have issued a strong statement condemning the people who are instigating conflicts at the club for personal interests.

According to a statement released on Wednesday, which was signed by 20 elders, who met in Dar es Salaam under their Chairman, Jabir Katundu, the elders accused some individuals as source of conflicts at the club. "People who wish this club bad fortune are very few and are known.

We, Yanga elders, have identified them through our investigation," read the statement. The elders named one of the people who have been encouraging conflicts at Yanga as former officer of the Quality Group who was dismissed.

"This officer was not trustworthy, upon observing his behaviour we advised Yusuf Manji (Yanga sponsor) to fire him," the elders claimed.

The elders claimed that the officer in question had conspired with some leaders in the previous regime to embezzle the club funds, which had been allocated for players' registration exercise.

"After being dismissed, he has now joined with the enemies inside and outside of Yanga to bring conflicts, something that we strongly oppose," said the elders.

They threatened to make public the names of those involved in the dirty game. The elders who signed the statement are Katundu, Yusuf Mzimba, Mikidadi Jagalaga, Juma Mwambelo, Abdallah Said, Hamisi Ramadhan, Thabiti Madenge, Musa Said and Hashimu Lienge.

Others are Mtopali Said, Ahmad Selemani, Said Bangazula, Hashim Mulika, Masud Abdallah, Hamisi Tawela, Athuman Kaungo, Silima Pande and Bilalihemed Chakupewa.

THE Minister for Health and Social Welfare Haji Mponda has told local artists who have come together for ‘Malaria No More' campaign, to step up their efforts and raise awareness about malaria and the urgent need to eradicate the disease.

He told them when they paid him a visit in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday that there was still a long way to got to eradicate the disease because he said, some members of the public were still ignorant especially on how to treat the disease.

"You need to continue working tirelessly to educate the public through your artistic work on how malaria is transmitted and the means of overcoming it. Some people just ignore to treat themselves, especially youths," he said.

The minister further said that musicians can reach the wider public and the musicians' positive messages will help the public take malaria seriously.

He also paid tribute to the founders of the ‘Malaria No More' project, saying their efforts to fight against malaria in the country will succeed.

Over a dozen of Tanzania's brightest stars have come together for the Zinduka! Malaria Haikubaliki campaign to raise awareness about malaria and the urgent need to eradicate the disease.

The campaign's title stands for "Wake Up!

Simba face Brazil's Atletico

PREMIER League Champions, Simba take on Brazil first division side Clube Atletico Paranaense at the National Stadium on Thursday evening in a match billed to be more than an international friendly.

The Msimbazi Street giant, known for their free-flowing attacking game, will march into the 60,000-seater capacity arena, knowing that a victory against the Samba-boys would guarantee them a training tour to Brazil.

This follows a lucrative offer made by Rahma Al-Kharoosi, the woman behind Atletico Pranaense's tour of Tanzania, who announced on Tuesday that should Simba win the game, she will pay for their trip to Brazil.

"Atletico Paranaense took us very lightly and were relaxed, some of their players did not attend training session before their match against Yanga.

They didn't know that Tanzanians can play good football at the top level as Yanga did on Tuesday. "After the game, however they appreciated it, and said ‘you have got a lot of talented players here'.

It inspired me and now I want Simba to beat them, if they can do that I promise that I will take them to Brazil where they will play another match against this team."

To ensure many fans turn up for the game, the African Lyon owner also decided that fans wishing to attend the match would enter the state-of-art arena free of charge.

"The whole concept of bringing Atletico Paranaense is not about (entrance) fees, it is about promoting football and laying foundation for football development. It also meant to give many soccer fans chance to watch and enjoy the game," Al-Kharoosi explained her decision to cancel the gate fees.

Paranaense kicked off their training tour with a 3-2 victory against Yanga at an almost empty National Stadium, which was caused by high entrance charges which had been pegged between 5,000 and 200,000/-.

Going by Atletico's performance against depleted Yanga, who were missing most of their first team players who were either injured or on national team duties, Simba will only have themselves to blame should they miss out on the offer to visit the home of football, Brazil.

Despite edging past Kostadin Papic's side, the Atletico Paranaense showed very little to suggest they are playing in the top division in the world's renowned football nation, five-time FIFA World Cup champions.

Simba coach Patrick Phiri said his team was moving in the right direction in their preparation for the Premier League and CAF Champions League, despite slumping to a 2-1 defeat by visiting Zesco United from Zambia in their international friendly match last Saturday.

The Zambian apparently promised that his side will display improved performance against the Brazilian team as he said in his post match interview, "I am sure when we play the next match here we are going to look stronger."

Phiri will have a star-studded squad to choose from following the return of their players who arrived back yesterday morning from Cairo with the national team, Taifa Stars squad, that had been featuring in the Nile Basin soccer tournament.

Simba are expected to use today's game to prepare for Sunday's premier league encounter against Azam FC, when they will be kicking off their second round campaign.

The reigning champions lead the title race with 27 points, two above archrivals Yanga. The game will also serve as a preparation for their preliminary round ties of the 15th CAF champions League against Elan Club de Mitsoudje of Comoro.

Meanwhile, the top flight league action continued yesterday with Ruvu Shooting and Kagera Sugar sharing the spoils after playing out to a 2-2 draw at the Jamhuri Stadium in Morogoro, reports JOHN NDITI.

It looked like Kagera Sugar would post their second back to back away victory following Sunday's 2-1 win over Azam FC when they took a 2-0 lead at half time thanks to Gaudence Mwaikimba and Benjamin Asukile's goals scored on 7th and 16th minutes respectively.

But the hosts battled strongly after the restart and succeeded to cancel both goals through Oscar Nkulila who pulled one back in the 50th minute with an unstoppable free-kick before Full Maganga levelled the score from a spot kick after 67 minutes.

THE national soccer team ‘Taifa Stars' left the maiden Nile Basin countries football tournament 70m/- richer despite ‘dreadful' performance in the campaigns.

Stars recorded not a single victory, lost two matches and drew two in the Cairo campaigns. They were whitewashed 5-1 by hosts Egypt in their opening match before forcing a 1-1 draw against Burundi and Uganda Cranes respectively and succumbed to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Sudan in a fifth place play off encounter.

Stars conceded nine goals in total and scored just three. The 12-day inaugural tournament, initiated and funded by Egyptian Football Association (EFA), saw the hosts nicknamed ‘Pharaohs' winning it all after dismantling Uganda Cranes 3-1 in a final match at the 45,000-capacity Military Stadium here on Monday night.

Pharaohs, who are the seven-time African champions pocketed 150, 000 US dollars (over 225m/-) cash prize, while silver winner Uganda Cranes walked away with 120, 000 US dollars (about 180m/-).

DR Congo beat Kenya 1- 0 to win the third place play off, bagging 100,000 US dollars (about 150m/-).

Fourth-placed Kenya got 60,000 US dollars (about 90m/-), while Sudan who beat Taifa Stars to win the fifth place play off received, Tanzania and Burundi who finished sixth and seventh respectively each bagged 50,000 US dollars (about 70m/-) for participating.

In the final match, substitute Caesar Okhuti scored Uganda's lone goal but could not inspire a comeback as Egypt held on to win the inaugural tournament final 3-1.

The Cranes went down fighting in the face of the African champions and the mostly second and third string team will have learnt a thing or two from the event bankrolled by the Egyptian government.

Uganda had an early scare when Mohamed Abdel-Rasek Shikabala dipped in a high ball with strikers Ahmed Bilal and scorer Saidi Hamdi lurking but Hamza Muwonge had it to safety.

The visitors' optimistic start was soon nullified with Samir Farad giving skipper Simeon Masaba nightmares at right back. Manko Kaweesa and Owen Kasule were pegged back with busy Shikabala linking play across the field.

The Cranes had a chance to take the lead after 23 minutes when defender Godfrey Walusimbi waltzed past two Egyptian defenders on the left but could only put the ball behind striker Patrick Edema.

Shikabala spotted Muwonge off his line and sent in a fierce drive but it could only brush off the crossbar. The Zamalek forward soon grew agitated after he was yellow-carded by Congolese referee Albert Musungayi.

Then Kasule was caught in possession by Mohamed Aboutrika, who released Farad on the left, the winger's cross controlled by Saidi and beating Muwonge to his right on 37 minute.

Uganda had strong appeals for a penalty when Habib Kavuma was brought down in the area by Fathi Ahmed but Musungayi wasn't interested.

Kavuma later had Uganda's best chance to equalise when he met Wagaluka's perfectly weighed cross but hit the post with the goalkeeper beaten shortly before halftime.

Bobby Williamson's lads' attempts to come back after recess were all but over when substitute Mohamed Gedo crossed for Saidi to net his and Egypt's second on 70 minutes. Gedo added the third when he headed in from the corner on 81 minute. Kavuma earlier had another shot brush off the near post.

Okhuti sent keeper Abdel Wahid the wrong way from the penalty after Hossan Ghaly had fouled another new comer Mike Mutyaba seven minutes from time.

The championship groups the Nile's ten littoral states, most of which are demanding a more equitable distribution of the water resources of the world's longest river.

Some analysts say the tournament was designed to repair Egypt's relations with many of its fellow littoral states, strained as a result of calls by Ethiopia, Burundi, Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda for a fairer allocation of the river's water resources. But organisers vehemently dispute such arguments.

"The tournament aims to create awareness among all countries sharing the Nile Basin, to safeguard the water resource for the benefit of future generations," said a senior Egyptian official.

EFA President Samir Zahar said the tournament is "for us, the tournament was purely football and good relations with our neighbours.

But for politics, that is the ministry of petroleum's concern." Egypt's oil ministry backed the EFA in its organization of the tournament.

Drogba: Chelsea stars need time

Didier Drogba admits Chelsea have missed the experience of the players who left Stamford Bridge last summer during their recent miserable run.
The Blues sold or released proven internationals Michael Ballack, Ricardo Carvalho, Joe Cole, Deco and Juliano Belletti during the close season, promoting youngsters Josh McEachran, Jeffrey Bruma, Gael Kakuta, Patrick van Aanholt and Daniel Sturridge.
Injury and illness robbed them of Drogba, Frank Lampard, John Terry and Michael Essien for part of the season, and Ray Wilkins was also controversially sacked as assistant manager, arguably sparking their worst run of results in the Barclays Premier League for almost 15 years.

The key players are now all back, while star striker Drogba also has faith Chelsea's youngsters will eventually come good.
He told Sports Illustrated: "We've had a lot of injured players, and the team has changed from last year. We lost five great players in Ballack, Belletti, Deco, Carvalho and Joe Cole.
"And we replaced them with young players like Bruma, Kakuta, McEachran and Van Aanholt.
"They are good players, but they need time to adapt."
Drogba has struggled to rediscover his own top form following a bout of malaria.
The 32-year-old revealed he was laid low for two months with the illness.
"At first, the tests didn't show that it was malaria. The doctor thought it was flu, so that's why we lost time," he said.
"While we thought it was flu, I was playing, because for me I can handle flu.
"I lost fitness, but I was working hard and trying to help the team.
"For me to be playing now, it's already a good start because it was a difficult moment for me to have malaria - very difficult."

Drogba smashed in 37 goals for Chelsea last season but has managed just nine so far this term.
He said: "It's maybe not what I was expecting, but I've had malaria and surgery before the beginning of the season for my hernia to make sure I'll be okay for the next few years.
"I won't say I'm happy because we're having a difficult moment, but when you look at the amount of games I've played and the number of goals and assists I've had, I know it's not the best, but it's not bad. And I can continue to improve that.
"I'm not worried about my performance.
"If we win the league and I score only 10 goals, for me it's fine."
Meanwhile, Branislav Ivanovic was today close to signing a new four-year contract at Stamford Bridge.
The 26-year-old defender, who scored one and made the other in Saturday's 2-0 win over Blackburn, has just 18 months left on his current deal.
Talks over extending it have dragged on for some time, while AC Milan and Juventus are reportedly interested in the Serbian.
But Ivanovic is keen to stay and is not far from putting pen to paper.
Speaking after Saturday's game, he said: "I want to stay and I hope it will be sorted out soon.
"We are talking about my new contract but we will see in the next couple of weeks.
"I don't want to say anything wrong. I hope things are going the right way. This is all I can say."
Ivanovic joined Chelsea two years ago from Lokomotiv Moscow for a reported £9million.
He has become a key member of the Stamford Bridge squad, first at right-back and now at centre-half.
Although he prefers the latter role, the return of Alex from injury and the possible arrival of a new defender may see him revert to the former, which has been a problem position for Chelsea of late.
The Blues are understood to retain an interest in Benfica's David Luiz and reports today claim they have made an improved offer to the Portuguese club, having had a £17million bid rejected for the player last month.

Arsenal midfielder Denilson has questioned Cesc Fabregas' leadership qualities and also claimed Manuel Almunia is the club's best goalkeeper.
The Gunners head to Elland Road on Wednesday night for their FA Cup third-round replay and the Premier League side have the unwelcome distraction of Denilson's derogatory comments about his team-mates.

The Brazilian midfielder has risked causing disharmony at the Emirates Stadium by claiming Fabregas lacks the leadership skills to be a true skipper of the north Londoners.
The 22-year-old is quoted as telling The Sun: "Fabregas is the captain but he is not a leader.
"It's a personality thing and a leader can be young. It's something they are born with.
"We are lacking leadership and we need leadership to go forward. There isn't a leader. I don't see one player as a leader.
"At Arsenal it's more of a collective team at the moment, everyone is talking - but a leader is always important for a team."
The former Sao Paulo star also had strong views on Arsenal's goalkeeping situation.
Wojciech Szczesny is set to start on Wednesday in place of the injured Lukasz Fabianski, yet Denilson believes neither is the club's best shot-stopper.
He said: "The best keeper at Arsenal is Manuel Almunia."
Denilson had kinder words reserved for manager Arsene Wenger adding: "His work is amazing and I admire all he has done giving opportunities to young players."

Mtibwa, Sofapaka nguvu sawa

Vieira: Tevez as good as Henry

Patrick Vieira believes Carlos Tevez is as big an influence on Manchester City as Thierry Henry was to the Arsenal 'Invincibles' - even if Roberto Mancini is considering whether to take penalty duties away from the South American.
Tevez failed from the spot for the second successive time on Tuesday night, his missed attempt in the 4-2 FA Cup win over Leicester following a similarly negative outcome to his effort against Blackpool on New Year's Day.

Yet it is a minor blot in the striker's copybook.
Another thunderbolt at Eastlands as City booked a fourth-round trip to Notts County took his tally for the season to 16, emphasising his importance to the Blues' trophy quest.
As Vieira recalls, it was just like that with Henry when Arsenal were ruling the roost, and whilst the players are very different in style, their overall impact was the same.
"Carlos is as good as Thierry Henry," said the veteran midfielder.
"They are different players but when you want to win trophies you need a striker who can score 20 to 25 goals a season.
"City have that type of player in Carlos. He is someone who can win you games. Even if you don't play well you know he will create a chance by himself and score it.
"If you want to win the championship or/and FA Cup, you need players like that."
Mancini is equally glowing in his praise of the 26-year-old and it could well be the best bit of business City do all season was persuade Tevez to remain at Eastlands this season when his heart appeared set on moving elsewhere.
Penalties are a problem though, and it would be no surprise if the job was handed to someone else when Mancini's team are next offered a chance to score from the spot.

"In every game, Carlos either scores a goal, plays well or fights against strong defenders," said Mancini.
"He helps control the match. There is only one problem. Penalties. At this moment they are very average, so we will see what happens with the next one."
For the second time in four days Mancini was left to bemoan his team's failure to concentrate right to the final whistle.
On Saturday, City allowed Wolves to storm back from 4-1 down to 4-3 to set up a nerve-jangling finale.
On Tuesday night, the Blues were coasting at 3-1, only for Lloyd Dyer to halve to deficit and leave more shredded fingernails before Aleksandar Kolarov finally confirmed their place in the last 32.
"For the supporters it is good but I don't like these scores," said Mancini.
"If you don't concede a lot of goals, at the end of the season you win something for sure.
"But if you concede goals in every game, there will come a time when you cannot score three or four yourself. It is impossible to continue like that."
Vieira was not complaining though.
He marked his 50th FA Cup appearance with his first goal since scoring the decisive penalty in the shoot-out against Manchester United in 2005.
That was the 34-year-old's fourth triumph in the competition - and remains Arsenal's last trophy.
"It is a special competition," said Vieira.
"I was fortunate to win it a few times with Arsenal. It is always a pleasure to play in the FA Cup. These two games against Leicester showed how difficult it is. If you are not 100% committed it can be really difficult.
"At 3-1 we thought the game was over. But it is the beauty of the FA Cup that they scored again.
"There were goals and tension. It was everything in 90 minutes. That is why the fans enjoy it."

The England midfielder, 31 in May, admits he has been lifted by Kenny Dalglish's return as manager in the last fortnight.
And he wants to carry on playing for as long as possible, although he has considered taking his coaching badges like team-mate Jamie Carragher.
"It's not my main priority or focus at the moment, I still think that's a long way off," he told LFC Weekly.
"I believe I can play football for another four or five years but I do sometimes think about what I'm going to do when I finish playing.
"I would like to stay involved in some capacity, whether that's on the media side or in the dugout we'll have to wait and see.
"I will certainly try to get my coaching qualifications at some point."
