Guys and girls feel to ask any questions you want to ask right here. We can help,

I learn English when i was in primary school. And was fairly competent by the time i finish primary school.

Here is how i became fairly competent.

1. I ask my parent to only speak to me in English, if they speak in swahili they have to pay me 100 shillings.

2. Everytime i had free time i went to British Council, French, German and USA library were you can talk to people, watch free videos, free movie, etc. By the way i have strong interest in all Language including spanish, German, French and English.

3. I ask some of my relative to only talk to me in English, Otherwise they have to pay me. Some of them were Teachers and so it work out fine.

4. Watch a lot of movies, did a lot of English exams just because i wanted to prove to myself i am competent and can pass English Exams.

5. I listen to BBC world service, voice of america everyday. Read or try to read everyday daily news newspaper Daily News | Tanzania's Leading Online News Edition

You are not competent, YET mkuu, but you are on the right track.....English not being our mother tongue, i doubt we will ever be. We may remain students of the language for as long as we live but let that not keep us from tryin.....that's it.

Mkuu that is why i use this word "fairly competent". It means i am not the best but i am making progress, and i think i can help my brothers and sisters.

Look bro, i am not claiming that i am English teacher or English Expert, just Tanzanian who think i can help others Tanzanian a little bit.

I am still learning myself, we can all help each other. I can also learn from you.

I think we we should always try support each other and try to help each other just like other people do (Indians Arabs, Jewish, Chinese, Europeans) instead of criticising each other all the time. It is a little bit silly and counter productive.

I will do my best to help you my friend. Ask anything you want. I will always be here for you.

By the way it seems anytime you open up about your life experience in JF you are attacked. It supposed to be free forum. It supposed to be a place where Tanzanian support each each, build up each other, help each other. But some people have other ideas.

At least seven people have been killed and 13 wounded in one of three car bombs to rock the Syrian capital Damascus

The above story I took it on sky news : for the purpose of asking you a question. They have written that 'at least seven people have been killed' my question is why they didn't write ' at least seven people died? Instead they write .....they have been died as if it's happening every time.

(i want to be deep)

I want to be well conversant
I want to be in the know
...to improve my knowledge
...to learn more
..to have a better (or an excellent) command of the language

Be free. Feel confident that unaweza make mistake na utajifunza from the mistake.

1) experiment with other options or alternative statements. Usitumie au don't limit yourself to direct translations unapotafsiri...

2) Watch football (or any program being broadcasted with English commentary). Try and match what they say na what they do. You'll learn a thing or two. Also, read widely and get a dictionary ready, just in case.

3) Practice makes perfect!

Best regards!
