At the risk of sounding inapropriately gleeful with a schadenfreude like satisfaction, the question of whether this is a genetic issue plaguing this family and therefore rendering the subject as deserving more help than condemnation arises.

Word on the street is that his State House brother is none the wiser on this very issue, a national security concern.

But if we had a constantly premium-Scotch chugging president who once, as a Foreign Minister had to be awaken by Secret Service in the nick of time due to wanton drunkenness (before departing to Saudi Arabia of all places!!) while the then president was waiting for him, against protocol at DIA, what is an aide but a paling comparison?

Seriously, it is quite possible that this weakness runs in the family. I would say he should check himself into a clinic, but I am not sure the concept is not foreign in Tanzanian society and such an institution is still a Hollywood novelty.

One can argue that, contary to the almost default Tanzanian nepotism which produced the likes of Zanzibar's Amani Karume and Hussein Mwinyi, colossal failures who wouldn't get anywhere as significant without their last names, this chap is being not only checked, but the checking is being recorded publicly.

I don't want a Makamba dynasty with alcoholism/ substance abuse issues.Come to think of it I dont want a Makamba dynasty, or any dynasty at all.

This is news because our leadership must be demonstrated beginning at the family level, for a Makamba to be in this position a subtler failure in leadership on the part of the father is revealed, that of leading a family.Begging the question, If Makamba cannot lead a scandal free family can he be trusted with higher responsbilities? Is there an alcoholism issue in the Makamba family that the public should know about?

Public service entails the sacrifice of privacy in giving the public the right to scrutinize the public servants scruples and morals, down to his/her family.
