THE INSECURE BELIEVER
Every man's fate we have fastened on his neck; on the day of Judgement [sic] we shall bring out for him a scroll which he will see spread open." (sura 17:13)
Although this statement seems relatively straightforward, a devout Muslim knows better than to presume upon good works alone. Doing so would malign and abuse the sovereignty of Allah. One of the most famous oft-used phrases in the Muslim world, "En sh'Allah ... ("If God wills"), illustrates the complexity of this union.
And although Muslims can never be sure of their destiny, they can be assured about many of the things that will keep them from enjoying the pleasures of Paradise.
As to those who reject Faith.
It is the same to them whether you warn them or do not warn them; they will not believe. Allah has set a seal on their hearts and on their hearing. And on their eyes is a veil; Great is the chastisement they [incur]. (sera 2:6-7)
"
Allah loves not those who reject Faith" (sura 3:32).
The Muslim CAN BE TOTALLY SURE that ALLAH WILL NEVER RESTORE A BELIEVER WHO REJECTED THE TEACHINGS AND FAITH OF ISLAM.
This is why so many Muslims quickly DISOWN CHILDREN who have converted to another religion, especially Christianity. Why love them when almighty Allah will never love them? Furthermore, the worst person in the world, in fact, is the Muslim who turns his or her back on belief in Allah. Indeed, one has a greater chance of earning heaven if one never knows the creed, "There is no god but Allah. Muhammad is the messenger of Allah."
Muhammad said: "The deceased person is being tortured in the grave not for a great thing to avoid, it is for being soiled with his urine." (hadith 2.460)
The Muslim is instructed to fast, pray, worship, give money to the poor, and make a pilgrimage to Mecca. Yet, apparently all of these things CANNOT KEEP.SOMEONE OUT OF HELL if they have soiled themselves with urine.'
Believers in Allah must worry, too, about who is speaking about them.
According to the Hadith, "The deceased is punished because of the weeping of his relatives" (2.375).
Relatives then must not be carried away in their grief or their deceased loved one will be punished. Moreover, if a person speaks badly about another person, "hell has been affirmed" to the one who is being despised (hadith 2.448).
Throughout Muslim thought, HELL ALWAYS SEEMS MUCH NEARER THAN PARADISE. People are continually reminded of Allah's wrath and the slippery slope toward eternal punishment. If someone has a fever, for example, Muhammad believed that the "fever is from the heat of hell" (hadith 7.619).
Consequently, the Qur'an has much to say about who Allah does not love:
• For Allah loves not transgressors. (sura 2:190)
• For [Allah] loves not any ungrateful sinner. (sura 2:276)
• For Allah loves not those who do wrong. (sura 3:57)
• For Allah loves not the arrogant, the vainglorious. (sura 4:36)3
