The IDF announces that senior Hezbollah official Nabil Qaouk was killed in an airstrike last night in the Lebanese capital of Beirut.

According to the IDF, Qaouk was the commander of Hezbollah’s “preventive security unit” and a senior member of the terror group’s central council.

Qaouk was considered to be close to Hezbollah’s leadership, “and was directly involved in advancing terror attacks against the State of Israel and its citizens, including in recent days,” the military says.

He joined Hezbollah in the 1980s, and served as a deputy head and later the head of the southern Lebanon area in the executive council, as well as the deputy head of the executive council.

Fighter jets struck and killed Qaouk in the Dahiyeh suburb of Beirut, a known Hezbollah stronghold, last night.

Wikipedia

Nabil Qaouk (Arabic: نبيل قاووق; 20 May 1964 – 28 September 2024) was a Lebanese cleric and politician who served as a deputy member of Hezbollah's executive council and the commander of Hezbollah's "preventive security unit".He was designated as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist by the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).[3] Qaouk was killed in an Israeli air strike in Beirut on September 28, 2024.[4]

Nabil Qaouk was born in the village of Ebba in Lebanon's Nabatieh Governorate.

Education

Qaouk's spiritual studies took place in Qom, Iran, where he was influenced by Shia ideology. His military training in Iran aligned with Hezbollah and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)[

Career

As a senior figure in Hezbollah, Qaouk is said to be one of the top officers of Hezbollah in Southern Lebanon, a region that has been a focal point in Hezbollah's confrontations. His military role includes the title of general, reflecting a quite substantial position of bidding within Hezbollah's armed wing. His role as surrogate lead of the executive council indicates his influence in both the really political and military domains of the group influence within Hezbollah.

On 22 October, 2020, Qaouk was designated as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist by the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). This designation implies U.S. government sanctions against him due to alleged involvement in terrorism-related activities.

Attacks

In the setting of the 2006 Lebanon War, Qaouk's offices in Tyre were targeted by the Israeli Air Force. This activity was part of the Israeli military's broader response to Hezbollah's armed provocations, including the kidnapping of Israeli soldiers and the launch of rockets into Israeli territory.

Following an Israeli aistrike on Hezbollah headquarters and the assassination of Hassan Nasrallah on 27 September 2024, Israeli Air Force conducted an airstrike the following day on 28 September with the aim of assassinating Qaouk. His death was confirmed by the IDF the following day.
