[h=1]Kilosa-Kilombero Licence, Tanzania[/h][h=2]Overview[/h]This large (17,675km[SUP]2[/SUP]) licence is located on the East African Rift System (EARS), a proven oil trend. Over 2 billion barrels of oil has been found in the Lake Albert area of Uganda, in the western branch of the EARS. Recently oil was found in the Lokichar Basin in Kenya on the western branch of the EARS. The discoveries have provided compelling evidence that the presence of oil in the rift systems is geographically more extensive than previously thought.

On the basis of this the company expected to encounter a typical rift system, half-graben plays, analogous to the Lokichar Basin where the Ngamia and Twiga South discoveries were made. During early 2013 the joint venture issued tenders for the seismic surveys and obtained environmental consents that allowed it to continue into the second year of operations. During these, a total of 300 kms of 2D seismic will be acquired over the three Kilosa-Kilombero basins.

against large-scale fault to the West.[h=2]Kilosa Basin[/h]A total of 130km of 2D seismic were acquired over the Kilosa basin between the 8[SUP]th[/SUP] August and the 10[SUP]th[/SUP]September 2013. Initial results based on preliminary processed data indicate the possible presence of large-scale structures along the edges of the basin. The basin appears to be deeper than was assessed on the basis of the airborne gravity-magnetics, with sedimentary fill potentially reaching 10,000m in places. The main structural units appear to be Karoo in age although final processing is currently ongoing.
[h=2]Kidatu Basin[/h]The seismic crew relocated to Kidatu and commenced the survey of that basin on the 10[SUP]th[/SUP] September. The programme is expected to take some three weeks to complete and initial early data indicate the possible presence of large-scale, rotated fault blocks.
[h=2]Forward Plans[/h]Upon completion of the survey of the Kidatu Basin the seismic crew will relocate to the Kilombero Basin, the third of the basins identified in the Kilosa-Kilombero licence. The company shall process and interpret the data for each basin as it becomes available.

The rift is part of the East African Rift System that in the west, runs from Uganda to Malawi, and in the east from Kenya to Tanzania. The Pangani Rift is believed to contain sediments of Pliocene age, and possibly some Late Tertiary successions.
