“Tanzania tilikuwa tunafuatilia uchaguzi wenu, kwa mara ya kwanza kulikuwa na mwanamke katika nafasi ya kuwa Makamu wa Rais, hilo lilituvutia.

“Kwa niaba ya Serikali ya Tanzania naipongeza Serikali ya Marekani kwa msaada mkubwa wa maendeleo ambao mmekuwa mkitupatia kupitia USAID kwa miaka mingi hasa katika maendeleo ya kijamii,” Rais Samia.

“Kuhusu Covid-19, Nchi yangu ipo katika hali nzuri na imekuwa ikipata msaada kutoka Marekani, kuna chanzo zaidi ya dozi milioni tano ambazo tumepata kutoka Marekani.

“Kuhusu haki za binadamu na demokrasia, Tanzania imepiga hatua kubwa katika masuala hayo, ambapo tumefanya juhudi kubwa kuhakikisha kuna umoja, mshikamano na heshima kwa Watanzania wote,” Rais Samia.

"Kuhusu biashara na uwekezaji, tunajua tunatakiwa kutengeneza mazingira rafiki ya biashara, Serikali yangu inashirikiana na sekta binafsi, ninachoomba ni Marekani kushawishi sekta binafsi kuja Tanzania kufanya biashara na sisis, tunawakaribisha sana," Rais Samia.

“Napenda pia kukutaarifu Makamu Rais kuwa nikiwa hapa Marekani, nitazindua The Royal Tour ambayo ni programu inayolenga kuonesha uwezo wa Tanzania katika sekta za Utalii na Uwekezaji," Rais Samia.

“Kuichagua Marekani kuwa sehemu ya kufanya Uzinduzi si bahati mbaya, tulifanya hivyo makusudi, lengo ni kuufanya mradi uonekane duniani kote, ili watu wengi wafike Tanzania kutembea,” Rais Samia.

Readout of Vice President Harris’s Meeting with President Hassan of Tanzania​

APRIL 15, 2022 STATEMENTS AND RELEASES

Vice President Kamala Harris met today with President Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania in Washington.


The Vice President underscored that the Biden-Harris Administration is committed to strengthening ties with Tanzania and with countries across Africa, based on the principles of mutual respect and equality.

The Vice President welcomed President Hassan’s efforts to strengthen democracy and human rights in Tanzania.

They reviewed a number of areas of cooperation in our bilateral relationship, including health, agriculture, and infrastructure.

The Vice President underscored the importance of our economic and commercial partnership, and discussed recent reforms and others needed to further strengthen our investment relationship.

The two leaders noted they are looking forward to the entry into force of an Open Skies Air Transport Agreement, which establishes a modern civil aviation relationship between the United States and Tanzania and agreed it will promote increased travel and trade and help spur economic growth.

They also welcomed nearly $1 billion of new investments by U.S. companies in Tanzania in tourism, conservation, and clean energy sectors.

The Vice President discussed our efforts to address the COVID-19 pandemic, including through Tanzania’s participation in the U.S.-led Global VAX Initiative, and our donation of nearly 4.9 million vaccine doses provided to Tanzania since the beginning of the pandemic. They discussed broader global health security and global health issues, including supporting women and children’s health.

Lastly, they discussed several regional and global issues of concern.

The Vice President emphasized the importance of the world standing together in support of international rules and norms, including the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations.


The Vice President condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and its ongoing brutal attacks against the people of Ukraine and noted there must be severe costs for Russia’s actions.

Human Capital at the Crossroads: Reversing the Losses, Reclaiming our Future

Putting people first through investing in human capital – the knowledge, skills, and health that people need to achieve their potential – is critical for sustainable, inclusive growth and poverty reduction. The consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic threaten to leave generations behind and exacerbate inequalities. Health impacts, setbacks to nutrition, the early years and learning, job losses and expanding gender gaps must be addressed with urgency.

Countries have stepped up in innovative ways to put people first through building, protecting, and utilizing human capital – with support from the World Bank and partners. However – ambition, innovation, and sustained support are needed to recover human capital losses and strengthen recovery. Investing in people consistently and providing opportunities for all to achieve their potential can yield economic dividends – and help bring greater stability in a challenging global context.
