Carlo Ancelotti was the second most voted manager of the three finalists up for the 2014 FIFA World Coach of the Year award. With 22.06% of the votes cast, the Italian finished ahead of Simeone (19.02%) and was only surpassed by Löw (36.23%) at the Ballon d'Or gala held in Zurich.

His first piece of silverware came courtesy of victory over Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final, before claiming Madrid's tenth European Cup against Atlético. Real Madrid's nine Ballon d'Or winners

Di Stéfano, Kopa, Ronaldo, Zidane, Figo, Owen, Cannavaro and Kaká preceded Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Real Madrid side that won five European Cup titles completely dominated the footballing landscape during the 1950s. That team was led by Alfredo Di Stéfano, who was awarded with the Ballon d'Or on two occasions (1957 and 1959) and is the only man to possess the Super Ballon d'Or as the best player in the history of European football (1989). During that era, the Whites' honorary president shared the same dressing room as Kopa, who was also presented with the award for the world's greatest player in 1958.

Zidane won the Ballon d'Or in 1998. He succeeded Ronaldo, who received the prize in 1997 and again in 2002. Figo, who signed for Real Madrid during the summer of 2000, scooped the award a few months later. Owen triumphed in the 2001 edition of the gala, while Cannavaro did so in 2006 and Kaká in 2007. Crisitiano Ronaldo now has three titles to his name: 2008, 2013 and 2014.

"Cristiano wants to beat every record. He wants a fourth Ballon d'Or and he has started very well", said the president.

Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez congratulated the Whites players who received awards at the Ballon d'Or gala and expressed his delight: "It's been a celebration for the club and the fans. We have to continue working with humility so that in the coming year we can pick up more trophies."

"Cristiano wants to beat every record. He wants a fourth Ballon d'Or, he's working to win it and he has started very well, although, as he has said, what's most important is that the team's playing well, is top of La Liga, creates excitement and from that come the individual awards."

Ramos, Kroos and James
"I'm delighted that Sergio Ramos is in the world eleven for the fifth time. I'm also delighted for Kroos and James, who got their reward. In the World Cup, we saw that they were among the best players and we had the opportunity and the pleasure of being able to sign them. And I haven't forgotten Di María, because his prize also comes from the hard work he put in for Real Madrid."

Ancelotti
"I'm convinced that he'll win the World Coach of the Year award next year, so it isn't a disappointment. When everything is going well, it's a collective job and the coach is important, as are the players, the fans, the atmosphere in the dressing room and the desire to win. That's why we're very satisfied with the way the season has started."

Competition
"I look to meet the standards set by a club which is the best of the 20th century. And that's a responsiblity. I look to do what Santiago Bernabéu did, with the best players in the world, in Spain and in the academy, to maintain the identity of Real Madrid. But we have a lot of competition."
