🚨"THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING", SAYS LAIZER
Right after the finish line of the UCI World Championships in #Zurich2024, here is what Richard Laizer told us:
“I am very happy with my first Cycling World Championships! I could feel a very special, warm and powerful atmosphere with the crowds and all the best riders from the best teams in the world. It was absolutely crazy!
Everything went well and I was a bit faster than I expected. A time trial is always very hard because you can never slow down: you must give it all! I have been pushing myself for 46 kilometres, trying to find some extra energy in my mind and body.
It was something new to try because it's the longest course and one of the most technical ones I have experienced. There were some bumpy and narrow roads and also some 10 % descents. I really focused to handle my bike and avoid a bad crash, but I must say I really enjoyed for the most part of the course.
I am happy with the progress I did and the great support I got from Nicola Morganti of ACRA, also from Velafrica and Trek Bicycle!
Now, we know we can make it!
Tanzanian riders can make the World Championships time trials. This is certainly the world's highest level in our sports but we can match it.
Next year I really hope we can be back to the World Championships that will take place in Kigali, Rwanda, with more preparation and more Tanzanian cyclists.
