[h=1]Tanzania: Simba's Stadium to Cost 75 Billion[/h]18 APRIL 2011
A TURKISH firm, Petroland Alliance Company, has set up a budget estimate of US 50m dollars for construction of a new stadium for the Mainland soccer giants, Simba Sports Club.
The company's official, Emre Mustafa, said in Dar es Salaam on Monday it has proposed to construct an ultra-modern stadium whose size will cover 20, 000 square metres at the club's plot located at Bunju, on the outskirts of the city.
The company has been contracted by Simba to construct the venue, which is expected to end the long standing lack of stadium the club has experienced.
Mustafa presented different models of modern stadiums to a section of members of Simba's executive committee and the latter were expected to choose the one that will suit the club depending on the ability to meet construction costs.
He said the stadium, once completed, will prove to be a reliable source of income based on attractive turnovers that will be accrued from different business projects that will be established around the premises.
"The stadium's construction might seem very expensive but, once the project is completed, it will change the fans' negative perceptions and they will, instead, be supportive of the initiative," said Mustafa.
"If you will have a stadium like the one we have proposed to construct, the fans (Simba's) will start to love the club more and will be more committed to fighting the club's prosperity," he added.
He pointed out that accessibility to the stadium has been taken into consideration in which his firm has proposed to set up a bus charter to help fans reach the stadium comfortably and in a manner that could inspire them to support their team strongly.
The firm's country representative, Mandaro Mandaro, said there are also plans to set up a shopping mall at the stadium with a view to attracting people even when the venue does not host matches.
"We will also put entertainment spots for hosting various concerts regularly, so, hopefully, the stadium will be one of a kind," said Mandaro.
The Petroland Alliance Company also has a base in Djibouti, where it has undertaken several major construction projects including concrete batching plant and laboratories.
Simba's member of executive committee, Swedi Mkwabi, said it was now up to the committee to meet and discuss the plan prior to coming up with the agreed construction budget.
The club's secretary general, Evodius Mtawala, added that the executive committee members are expected to meet in the city tomorrow to discuss the matter as part of the initial process of setting up the budget.
"This is one of big projects that the club has come up with this year. We are now determined to turn our club into a more scientifically managed entity in future,", he added.
