Russia destroys another US-made Abrams tank – MOD

A single Krasnopol artillery munition was enough to obliterate the vehicle, according to Moscow’s military

Russian forces have destroyed another US-supplied Ukrainian-operated Abrams main battle tank in Donbass, the Defense Ministry in Moscow reported on Wednesday.

The Pentagon has supplied 31 M1A1 Abrams tanks to bolster the Ukrainian army. The latest one to be wiped out was hit by a Russian Krasnopol guided artillery system, according to a statement.

The target was spotted by drone operators near the Russian city of Avdeevka in Donetsk People’s Republic, the ministry said. A 152-mm Msta-S self-propelled howitzer was then deployed to strike it.


According to Western media reports, Kiev was forced to sideline Abrams tanks on the battlefield due to the threat from Russian drones and artillery forces. At least five of the 31 tanks were confirmed lost as of April, the Associated Press reported at the time, citing US military officials

Putin lands in Kazakhstan for SCO summit.

The Russian leader will hold a series of bilateral talks on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization meeting.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in Astana, where the leaders of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) members and observer states are expected to discuss a wide range of global and regional issues on July 3-4.

The Russian president’s plane landed in Astana around 5am local time on Wednesday, according to the Kremlin.

Putin’s program “includes a range of very important bilateral contacts,” as Moscow considers the summit to be a good opportunity for talks with the leaders who will attend, according to foreign policy aide Yury Ushakov.


Ahead of the main protocol events, Putin is expected to meet the leaders of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Mongolia, as well as Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Xi Jinping of China. The Russian leader is also expected to hold talks with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The SCO was founded in 2001, and initially included Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. In 2017 the organization was joined by India and Pakistan, while Tehran became a full-fledged member in 2023.

Yuzhmash produces spacecraft, launch vehicles (rockets), liquid-propellant rockets, landing gears, castings, forgings, tractors, tools, and industrial products.

⚡At least five people were killed and 34 injured in Dnepropetrovsk (Dnipro) today, Ukrainian officials said.

A shopping center was damaged, as well as multiple cars and a gas station, said Mykola Lukashuk, the head of the Dnepropetrovsk regional council.

Judging by the photos published by Ukrainian media, civilian objects were affected because they were on the periphery of the explosions caused by missiles and drones hitting the Yuzhmash military plant.
