It was learned today from sources close to the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, that he is very upset about having Indians trapped in the Russian army fighting in Ukraine. He plans to discuss the immediate release of all Indian citizens conscripted from military service in the Russian Federation during his visit to Moscow next week. In recent months, several cases have emerged in which Indians were lured to Russia with the promise of work and education, and as a result ended up in the ranks of the Russian army and are dying in Ukraine.

The Russian military carried out 23 group strikes against high-value targets in Ukraine over the past week, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced on July 5.

“From 29 June to 5 July 2024, the Russian Armed Forces carried out 23 group strikes by high-precision weapons and strike unmanned aerial vehicles [UAVs], as a result of which the following were hit: enemy airfields, energy facilities that support the work of Ukraine’s military-industrial complex enterprises, fuel depots for military equipment, assembly facilities for strike UAVs and uncrewed surface vehicles as well as locations for storing and preparing for combat use of missile weapons,” the ministry said in its weekly briefing.

In the same briefing, the ministry provided a summary of Russian military actions in different directions within the special military operation over the past week.

According to the ministry, the Sever Group of Forces improved the situation along the front line and inflicted losses on three Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) brigades, one marine and two territorial defense brigades. In addition, the group repelled five Ukrainian counter-attacks.

“The enemy losses were up to 1,595 troops, four tanks, three armored fighting vehicles, 30 motor vehicles, three electronic warfare stations as well as 31 field artillery guns, including 12 large-caliber howitzers of various United States-made modifications,” the ministry said.

The ministry also confirmed that the Zapad Group of Forces liberated Stepovaya Novosyolovka in the Kharkov region, improved the tactical situation on the front and hit three AFU mechanized, one assault, one airmobile and two territorial defense brigades. The group also repelled 11 counter-attacks, per the ministry.

“The AFU losses amounted to up to 3,580 Ukrainian troops, one tank, seven armored fighting vehicles, 29 motor vehicles, four Grad MLRS [Multiple Launch Rocket System] combat vehicles and 27 field artillery guns, including ten Western-made artillery guns,” the ministry said, adding that “20 ammunition depots were destroyed.”

Also during the past week, the Yug Group of Forces liberated Spornoye and Noviy district of Chasov Yar in the Donetsk People’s Republic, according to the ministry.

“Losses were inflicted on manpower and hardware of two AFU mechanized brigades and two air assault brigades. Eighteen attacks launched by the enemy’s assault detachments were repelled,” the ministry said.

It added that “AFU losses amounted to up to 3,845 Ukrainian troops, four tanks, 19 armored fighting vehicles, including three U.S.-made M113 armored personnel carriers, 65 motor vehicles and 53 field artillery howitzers. Moreover, eight electronic warfare stations and 35 AFU field ammunition depots were destroyed.”

The Tsentr Group of Forces also liberated Schumy, Novoaleksandrovka and Novopokorskoye in Donetsk, the ministry said, adding that losses were inflicted on units of three AFU mechanized brigades and two infantry formations as well as two territorial defense brigades.

At least 38 Ukrainian counter-attacks were also repelled by the group in the same direction over the past week, according to the ministry.

“The AFU losses amounted to up to 2,970 Ukrainian troops, five tanks, 12 armored fighting vehicles, including two U.S.-made Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, 30 motor vehicles and 32 field artillery howitzers,” the ministry said.

The ministry also said that the Vostok Group of Forces improved the tactical situation and inflicted losses on two AFU brigades, two territorial defense and one national guard brigades. In addition the group repelled 11 counter-attacks.

“The AFU losses amounted to up to 900 Ukrainian troops, four armored fighting vehicles, 43 motor vehicles and 22 field artillery howitzers, including 14 supplied by NATO countries,” the ministry said.

During the same period, the Dnepr Group of Forces inflicted losses on one mountain assault and four territorial defense brigades of the AFU, according to the ministry.

“The AFU losses amounted to up to 635 Ukrainian troops, one armored fighting vehicle, 36 motor vehicles, 24 field artillery howitzers, including 13 U.S.-made M777 howitzers,” the ministry said, adding that “seven electronic warfare stations and three AFU ammunition depots were destroyed.”

In addition, five Su-27 aircraft and one Mi-24 helicopter were destroyed at airfields, according to the ministry, which noted that two other Su-27s were damaged.

The Black Sea Fleet also destroyed three uncrewed surface vehicles of the Ukrainian Navy over the past week, according to the ministry.

Furthermore, the ministry revealed that 32 Ukrainian troops surrendered to the Russian military in different directions within the special military operation zone over the past week.

All in all, the Russian military continues to dominate the battlefield. Recent group strikes and ground operations inflicted heavy human and material losses on Kiev forces. Despite receiving more military aid from its NATO backers, Ukraine’s military capabilities continue to deteriorate.

NATO member states have rejected a proposal by Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg to spend €40 billion ($43 billion) a year on aid for Ukraine, several media outlets have reported. The constituent countries, however, have agreed to earmark this sum for Kiev’s needs next year, Reuters claimed.

Since late May, the outgoing secretary general has on multiple occasions urged member states to make a long-term funding commitment at the upcoming NATO summit in Washington, DC on July 9-11.

During a press conference last month, Stoltenberg claimed that “allies have provided around €40 billion worth of military support to Ukraine each year” since 2022. The NATO chief said he wanted to “maintain this level of support for as long as necessary,” securing “fresh funding every year.”

On Wednesday, Germany’s Deutsche Presse-Agentur, citing unnamed sources from several delegations present at NATO consultations, claimed that Stoltenberg’s proposal had fallen through due to opposition from member states.

Reuters also reported that Stoltenberg’s original request had been turned down, with member states merely stating their intention to re-evaluate allied contributions at future NATO summits.

They also vowed to prepare two reports over the course of the next year to clearly establish each nation’s area of responsibility in terms of aid for Ukraine. The mechanism would supposedly be based on the GDP of member states, with more affluent nations expected to foot most of the bill.

Speaking during a press conference in mid-June, Stoltenberg recounted how the “United States spent six months agreeing to a supplemental for Ukraine.” He also lamented that “some of the promises that the European allies have made have not been delivered.”

“And if we turn this into not voluntary contributions, but NATO commitments, of course it will become more robust, it will become more reliable,” he argued at the time.

Stoltenberg also touted the creation of a Security Assistance Group for Ukraine, which would be based in Wiesbaden, Germany. The structure is expected to coordinate NATO military assistance for Ukraine, with the chief of the US European Command, General Christopher Cavoli, at the helm.

Some observers have speculated that the new, less-US-centered infrastructure is meant as a substitute, should the existing Ramstein group begin to falter. These concerns are understood to have been growing within NATO as a second Trump term stateside appears more likely.

The Republican hopeful has repeatedly criticized the Biden administration’s generous handouts to Kiev, and vowed to end the Ukraine conflict in short order if elected.

Russian International Bank in bankruptcy: Many world economists know that no country in the world can withstand a war economy for long. Russia is currently viewed economically as a boat with a huge hole in the middle of the sea, the Russians can continue to drain water by the bucket, but the water that comes in is greater than the water that goes out. The Russian Economy has been supported by a huge financial cushion that Putin already had in mind, but the cushion is not eternal, and the hole is huge every month. We await more news from Russian banks.
