Ukrainian forces ‘surrendering’ in Russian border region (VIDEO)

A screenshot from a video purportedly showing Ukrainian soldiers that have surrendered in Russia's Kursk Region.

Ukrainian troops taking part in Kiev’s incursion into Russia’s Kursk Region have started “actively surrendering,” Major-General Apty Alaudinov, commander of the Akhmat Special Forces from Russia’s Chechen.

Akhmat and other Russian military units have been “systematically eliminating the enemy,” the general said, adding that Kiev’s forces had started to give themselves up in all parts of the front line in the region. The Ukrainian military’s reserves “are depleting,” said Alaudinov.

Earlier on Saturday, the general reported on his Telegram page that at least five Ukrainian fighters had been taken prisoner by the Special Forces unit over the past few days, including one member of the neo-Nazi ‘Azov’ regiment.

A video showing almost a dozen Ukrainian POWs being escorted by Russian soldiers also surfaced on social media. According to RIA Novosti, which obtained the clip, footage shows soldiers from a single unit of Kiev’s 22nd Separate Mechanized Brigade, which laid down arms “in an orderly fashion” and contacted the Russian military through a specialized Telegram channel.

A total of 24 Ukrainian soldiers who served with the unit surrendered to Russia, RIA reported. According to the news agency, they were taken prisoner near the village of Komarovka, located around twelve miles from Russia’s border with Ukraine.

Footage shows the Ukrainian servicemen walking in a line with their hands behind their backs. Russian soldiers armed with assault rifles can be seen escorting them. At least 17 Ukrainian POWs can be seen on the video.

Some Russian Telegram channels linked to the nation’s military also claimed that Ukrainian soldiers have started to “massively” lay down their arms over the past days. Some servicemen allegedly surrendered immediately after crossing the Russian border, the channels claimed.

Ukraine deployed 10,000 reserves to attack border-zone in Kursk.

In its latest statement on the situation in the area, the ministry said Kiev’s forces had lost 300 soldiers and 31 pieces of heavy equipment in Kursk Region over the past 24 hours, including three tanks and a German-made IRIS-T air defense system.

The Ukrainian military launched its incursion into the Russian border region last week. In total, it has lost more than 3,100 soldiers, 44 tanks and 43 armored personnel carriers as well as five air defense systems and six multiple rocket launchers since the start of the operation, according to the Russian ministry’s estimates.

Ukrainian HIMARS-family launcher destroyed in Iskander strike – MOD video

The NATO-supplied M270 system was tracked down across the border from Russia’s Kursk Region.
One of the M270 MLRS systems provided to Kiev by its Western sponsors was destroyed in the Sumy region of Ukraine, according to a video published by the Russian Defense Ministry on Saturday.

The system, a heavier tracked counterpart to HIMARS capable of firing both ATACMS tactical ballistic missiles and smaller high-precision projectiles, was identified by a surveillance drone near the village of Bezdrik, approximately 25 kilometers from the border with Russia’s Kursk Region.

The location was promptly struck by a ballistic missile launched from a Russian Iskander-M system. A large explosion and subsequent fire were observed in the area after the strike. According to estimates from the Russian military, the attack destroyed both the launcher and its crew.

HIMARS launchers, as well as their heavier tracked counterpart, the M270, have been supplied to Ukraine by Washington, London, and Berlin since the summer of 2022. Multiple systems have been destroyed during hostilities, with at least four eliminated since the start of the incursion into the Kursk Region earlier this month, according to Defense Ministry estimates.

These systems have been widely celebrated in Ukraine as a powerful weapon due to their ability to conduct high-precision long-range strikes, including with controversial anti-personnel shrapnel munitions.
