Ukraine F-16 destroyed during Russian attack, BBC told​

One of the F-16 fighter jets sent from Nato allies to Ukraine has been destroyed, a Ukrainian military source has told the BBC.

The aircraft went down amid a barrage of Russian missiles on Monday, killing pilot Oleksiy Mes, Ukraine's military said. It marks the first loss of its kind since the planes were delivered earlier this month.

The destruction of the aircraft is a blow to President Zelensky, who said he will deliver a "victory plan" to US President Joe Biden next month.

This attack comes after reports began surfacing in the US, CLAIMING (not yet verified) the US has granted permission for Ukraine to attack interior Russia, with U.S.-Supplied weapons.
One weapons system which is being specifically mentioned in these reports, is the HIMARS with ATACMS long-range missiles. Of course, these particular weapons require in-flight guidance from . . . . . U.S. military satellites.
So if the U.S. is now allowing Ukraine to select targets and have U.S. satellites guide the weapons to those targets, the Russian Foreign Ministry says this makes the US an active party to the conflict.
Italy, today, took the exact opposite position. Italy opposes strikes on Russia using Its weapons.
Italy firmly maintains that the weapons provided to Ukraine can only be used for defense on its own territory.
This statement was made by Italy's Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, during a meeting in Brussels.

"Air reconnaissance capabilities of one of the units of the battlegroup North near the border in the Kursk Region detected a Ukrainian strongpoint camouflaged in a forested strip of land. After confirmation, the detected target was hit by an artillery strike by crews of the battlegroup North. Live recording was performed to confirm the strike on the enemy’s temporary bases," it said.

Ukrainian Armed Forces loses up to 400 servicemen in Kursk direction


MOSCOW, August 31. /TASS/. The daily losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk direction amounted to 400 servicemen, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.

"Over the past 24 hours, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have lost up to 400 servicemen and 18 armored vehicles, including one tank, three armored personnel carriers and 14 armored combat vehicles, as well as three artillery pieces, three mortars, one electronic warfare station, and 7 vehicles," the ministry said.

Units of Russia’s North battlegroup repelled six attacks by assault groups of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region, the ministry reported.

"Units of Russia’s North battlegroup, supported by army aviation and artillery fire, repulsed six attacks of enemy assault groups in the direction of the settlements of Borki, Bakhtinka, Komarovka, Malaya Loknya, and Matveyevka," the ministry said.

In the direction of Kursk, the Armed Forces of Ukraine continue their advance east of Suzhi. At the moment, fighting continues in Ruska Konopelka, which is already more than half under ZSU control, and in Pushkarne, the southern part of which is also under ZSU control.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Russian forces have destroyed a US-made multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) with its Ukrainian gun crew in the Sumy region, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Saturday.
"One MLRS of the Ukrainian armed forces was destroyed in a high-precision strike together with the Ukrainian militants servicing it," the statement read.
The MLRS was discovered by Russian troops in a forested area near the village of Sadky during a reconnaissance mission, the ministry said. Objective control means confirmed its complete destruction.
Russian forces have eliminated up to 400 Ukrainian troops and 18 armored vehicles in the Kursk Region over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of Ukrainian soldiers eliminated in the region since August 6 to over 8,200, the ministry said on Saturday.

Scott Ritter: Ukrainian Conflict Escalation Can Lead to ‘Global-Ending’ Nuclear War.

Ukraine attacking Russia using long-range weapons provided by the US “might be interpreted by Russia as a direct attack by the US, by NATO, on Russian territory,” former US Marine Corps intelligence officer Scott Ritter tells Sputnik.
Such an attack, Ritter explains, might be regarded as a prelude to a “larger military incursion” meant to accomplish the US’ ultimate goal, “the strategic defeat of Russia.”
“Russia has made it clear that as a nuclear power, it not only will not, but cannot be defeated strategically - because if such a possibility manifested itself, Russia would be required to use its nuclear arsenal to ensure that outcome would never, never occur. This means general nuclear war,” he says.
Ritter also recalls the warnings made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov who questioned the US’ apparent belief that a Russia-NATO conflict would be limited to Europe and who said that a Russian retaliatory strike against the United States is possible if such a conflict were to break out.

Ukraine is exerting pressure on staff at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant in Russia, with threats to kill their family members if they refuse to cooperate with Kiev, senior Russian diplomat Rodion Miroshnik has claimed.

"A lot of families have been separated” during the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, and Kiev is trying to take advantage of this, Miroshnik, who is tasked by the Moscow’s Foreign Ministry with collecting evidence of Ukraine’s war crimes, told RIA Novosti on Saturday.

Kiev’s security agencies are deliberately looking for relatives of staff members at the power plant who remain on Ukrainian territory, Miroshnik said.

They then use threats against family members, “to put pressure [on the nuclear plant employees] or provoke them to commit a terrorist act or to pass on information in the interests of Ukraine,” he claimed.

There have been cases of people “quitting or changing jobs in order to ‘deprive’ themselves of the opportunity to commit a crime and make sure the blackmailers lose interest in them,” the diplomat noted.

"Unfortunately, the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant is not the only one” experiencing such problems, as employees of other Russian critical facilities are also being pressured in a similar manner, Miroshnik said.

According to the diplomat, Russian security agencies are aware of such practices by Kiev and are working to counter them.
