Ukrainian POW claims troops kept in the dark about Kursk deployment to prevent desertion

Andrey Anisimov also gave a first-hand account of how a group of servicemen who refused to go to the Kursk Region were executed by "their own guys"

MOSCOW, September 2. /TASS/. Ukrainian armed forces serviceman Andrey Anisimov, recently captured in the Kursk Region, has revealed that in order to prevent mass desertions, commanding officers do not tell Ukrainian soldiers they are being deployed to the Kursk Region.

"They sent us there just like cannon fodder. They said we would serve near the Russian border. That's all they told us. He [the commander] definitely knew [that the troops were being sent to the Kursk Region]. But he never told us that. Apparently, they are afraid that we will run away," the POW said in a video distributed by the Russian Defense Ministry.

Anisimov also gave a first-hand account of how a group of servicemen who refused to go to the Kursk Region were executed by "their own guys

Russian forces eliminate up to 12,000 Ukrainian troops, mercenaries at LPR borders in week

Over the reporting period, Russian troops destroyed eight Ukrainian tanks, including Abrams and Leopard

LUGANSK, September 2. /TASS/. Russian forces repulsed 39 Ukrainian counterattacks and destroyed up to 12,000 enemy troops and foreign mercenaries at the borders of the Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) over the past week, military expert Andrey Marochko told TASS on Monday.

"On August 24-30, 2024, units of the Battlegroups South and West repulsed 39 enemy counterattacks: an insignificant increase in the activity of Ukrainian armed formations is observed. The enemy’s losses in the area of responsibility of the Battlegroups North, South and West over the reporting period totaled about 11,870 Ukrainian militants and mercenaries: a growth of losses in the units of Ukrainian armed formations continues to be observed," the expert said.

Over the reporting period, Russian troops destroyed eight Ukrainian tanks, including Abrams and Leopard; five multiple rocket launchers; 130 field artillery guns, 39 electronic warfare and counterbattery radar stations, 34 field ammunition depots and more than 400 enemy combat vehicles at the LPR borders, he specified.

LUGANSK, September 2. /TASS/. Russian forces eliminated over 42,000 Ukrainian troops and foreign mercenaries in the Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) in August, military expert Andrey Marochko told TASS.

"In August, Ukrainian armed units continued attempts to stop the advance of our forces. As many as 103 enemy attacks were repelled along the LPR boundaries last month, 85 less than in July. The decline in counterattacking actions points to fatigue among Ukrainian troops. Enemy losses stood at 42,080 in the reporting period, with the number including both Ukrainian militants and mercenaries," he said.

Marochko added that in August, Russian troops active in the area had destroyed 473 Ukrainian field artillery guns, three Buk M1 self-propelled missile launchers, 12 multiple rocket launchers, 93 electronic warfare systems and counterbattery radars, 193 field ammunition depots, over 1,400 armored vehicles and 82 tanks. "A sharp rise in the use of armored combat vehicles and tanks indicates the Ukrainian army’s attempt to achieve some success in offensive operations," the military expert stressed.

Putin has said the weapon - dubbed the SSC-X-9 Skyfall by NATO - has an almost unlimited range and can evade U.S. missile defenses.

The offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region continues. According to Russian reports, the villages of Naidyonov and Kamyshivka are under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Zelensky admits that attack on Kursk fails to ease Kiev army’s position in Donbass


MOSCOW, September 2. /TASS/. The incursion into Russia’s Kursk Region has not made the situation easier for Kiev in Donbass, where there are problems in the areas of Krasnoarmeisk (Pokrovsk) and Dzerzhinsk (Toretsk), Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has had to admit.

"As for the difficulties in the Pokrovsk and Toretsk areas, we believe that the Kursk operation can also influence this. <...> For now, it is difficult there," the Ukrinform news agency quotes him as saying.

The day before, Commander-in-Chief Aleksandr Syrsky said that the situation in the areas of the main Russian strikes remained hard for Kiev.

A massive attack by the Ukrainian military on the Kursk Region began on August 6. A missile alert was repeatedly declared in the region. Local residents are being evacuated to safety.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Kiev has lost more than 8,900 troops and 80 tanks since the beginning of the hostilities in the Kursk Region. The operation to wipe out the Ukrainian incursion continues.

50 countries united against Russia under ‘Nazi banners’ – Lavrov

The West has always been concerned that Russia is “too strong, too independent,” and has wanted to do something about it, “preferably breaking it up,” said Lavrov.

"A very indicative story is repeating itself because today, 50 countries have gathered against Russia under Nazi banners, considering the essence of the [Ukrainian leader Vladimir] Zelensky regime,” he continued, referring to the military assistance provided by the US and its allies to Kiev amid the conflict with Russia.
 
Lavrov asserted that Moscow was not going to play by Western rules and will not “embed itself into various schemes created without our participation and without taking Russia’s interests into account.”

However, he said Putin had made it clear that Moscow remains “open to contacts with the countries of the ‘collective West,’ with the understanding, of course, that they will abandon their openly hostile policies towards our country.”

If the US and its allies do not change their ways, “we will continue to respond resolutely to any unfriendly steps,” Lavrov added.

Türkiye applies to join BRICS – Bloomberg

Türkiye has formally asked to join the BRICS economic bloc, as it seeks to forge new ties beyond its traditional Western allies, Bloomberg has reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

According to the outlet, Ankara submitted an application to join the group “some months ago.” “Rifts” between NATO member Türkiye and the military bloc’s other member states over the Ukraine conflict were reportedly among the reasons for Ankara’s BRICS application.
Since the outbreak of the conflict between Moscow and Kiev in 2022, Ankara has called for a diplomatic solution. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan previously criticized his allies' strategy of providing military aid to Ukraine and stated that Türkiye “will not be a party to this war.”

Ankara has maintained close ties with Moscow despite the Ukraine conflict, noted Bloomberg.

The Turkish leadership is also reportedly growing frustrated over the lack of progress in its decades-long bid to join the European Union, the outlet added. Türkiye was declared a candidate country in 1999. However, the European Parliament suspended accession talks with the country in 2019 over alleged human rights violations.

BRICS was founded in 2006 by Brazil, Russia, India, and China, with South Africa joining in 2011. Russia is currently chairing the bloc.

Russia and Ukraine were close to agreeing peace terms during the Istanbul talks in the spring of 2022, but “some countries” did not want those efforts to succeed, Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus has said.

In an interview with Haberturk broadcaster on Wednesday, Kurtulmus said both Moscow and Kiev appreciate Ankara’s efforts to mediate in the conflict, adding that his country remains a unique actor in this capacity.

US-made HIMARS systems destroyed in Ukraine – MOD (VIDEO)

The Russian military has identified and destroyed three US-made HIMARS multiple rocket launchers and several accompanying vehicles, the Defense Ministry in Moscow announced on Monday.

The materiel was deployed by Ukrainian forces in Sumy Region, from which Kiev launched a major incursion into Kursk region with a stated goal to create a “buffer zone” on Russian soil.
