Ukrainian troops try to leave Selidovo in small groups — security forces

DONETSK, October 17. /TASS/. Ukrainian troops are trying to leave Selidovo in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) in small groups, the security forces told TASS.

"Data recorders showed that the enemy is trying to withdraw from Selidovo in small groups. We cannot say that this is a mass phenomenon, but it is not unusual, and it is becoming more frequent every day," the source said.

He added that the operational situation for the Ukrainian armed forces around the city is deteriorating. "In fact, just a little more and the Ukrainian military will again be forced to make a difficult decision: either to sacrifice most of its manpower in Selidovo, just like in Ugledar, or to withdraw the entire group," the source added.

On October 11, the security forces told TASS that the Ukrainian group in Selidovo was in danger of being completely encircled.

DONETSK, October 17. /TASS/. The Ukrainian military created strongly fortified areas and a network of underpasses near Ugledar in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) recently liberated by Russian troops, the Defense Ministry of Russia reported on Thursday.
"As fighters say, the enemy built serious fortifications in the Ugledar direction and created a network of underpasses and gun emplacements under concrete slabs but fighters from the Primorye Region already have the experience of storming such positions. For example, they methodically bombard strongholds by munitions dropped from drones until the enemy’s ammunition detonates," the ministry said in a statement.

Australia to send military aid worth $164 million to Ukraine — deputy premier

SYDNEY, October 17. /TASS/. The government of Australia will deliver a new package of military aid to Ukraine worth $164 million, Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defense Richard Marles said.

"This latest package, valued at approximately $245 million [Australian dollars, $164 million US dollars], will add to the Armed Forces of Ukraine’s firepower and mobility, and complement partners’ support for Ukraine’s armoured brigades," Marles was quoted as saying by the Ministry for Defense.

The delivery brings Australia’s overall military support to Ukraine to over $870 million US dollars.

Russian troops close to encircling Kurakhovo after liberation of Maksimilyanovka in DPR


DONETSK, October 17. /TASS/. The liberation of the settlement of Maksimilyanovka west of Donetsk will enable Russian troops to speed up the encirclement of Kurakhovo, defense circles told TASS on Thursday.

"Maksimilyanovka brings closer the encirclement of Kurakhovo from the southeast," the defense circles said.

Russia’s Defense Ministry reported earlier on Thursday that Russian troops had liberated the settlement of Maksimilyanovka in the Donetsk People’s Republic.

MOSCOW, October 17. /TASS/. The Ukrainian armed forces have lost more than 250 servicemen, with another six surrendering as prisoners of war (POWs) over the past day in the Kursk Region, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.

In total, the enemy has lost over 23,850 servicemen since fighting began in the region. Russian tactical aviation and missile forces hit the enemy reserves in the Sumy Region.

EU, West losing Ukraine conflict — Hungarian PM Orban

BUDAPEST, October 17. /TASS/. The European Union and Western countries are losing the conflict in Ukraine, as evidenced by the situation on the battlefield, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said in an interview with Germany’s The Pioneer news website during his October 14 visit to Berlin.

"We’re losing. Someone has to be held responsible for that. Many European leaders, led by the European Commission, have chosen to enter this war by siding with Ukraine and providing financial support. We are acting as if it was our own war, and now we are losing. This indicates that we have adopted an unsuccessful strategy in this conflict," the prime minister said.

"I’m surprised the Germans can’t see that we’re losing. It becomes obvious if you look at the facts. If you examine the military situation on the battlefield, the events taking place, and the scale and real capabilities of the two opposing sides, it is clear that we are heading toward defeat," Orban added.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The Ukrainian armed forces lost more than 505 soldiers in the Kursk region over the past day, the Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) said on Friday.
"Over the past day, the Ukrainian armed forces lost more than 505 people, 15 units of armored vehicles were destroyed, including two tanks, two infantry fighting vehicles, an armored personnel carrier, 10 armored combat vehicles," the MoD said in a statement.
In total, Ukraine has lost more than 24,367 servicemen and 167 tanks during operations in Kursk area, the ministry added.
