Yaani upokee kijiti halafu uanze kutambaa tena?
Samia ana uwezo wa kufanya vizuri sijui kwanini anavurunda.

Bora umechangia kitaalam, siasa zilishapigwa nyingi hapa.

Ukienda Congo, then Zimbabwe na Mozambique could be very immediate possibilities. Follow trade chains za gas creating wealth na reli moving raw materials for industrialization.

Business rationalization. So they are back to the kind of business, Citibank Tanzania is pursuing.

No individual account, unless linked with a Corporate account (consumer)

No SMEs, (business) and no High Networth (private).

And for corporates, a higher threshold definition. Normally, Corporate Banking targets Multinationals, first with British or European links etc, then Regional Corporates etc, for local, only the top tier. Bakhressa, etc.

Reason: Consumer and Private accounts: probably higher risks associated with high networth individuals whose wealth could present serious challenges to monitor but higher regulatory and reputation risks.

Local corporates and Businesses: difficulties to trace ownership and political influences.

Overall, probably, Stanchart have challenges from NMB, CRDB, DTB, and other Regional banks for competitiveness versus cost of doing business in those categories. So little growth (no appetite) since not much value can they add to what NMB etc are already offering.

Kweli there are all sort of reasons, including the impact of Covid-19 and the regulatory framework.

The markets being cut in Africa generated just 1% of total income in 2021 and a similar proportion of profit before tax. Not worth it for investing.

Standard Chartered is just following other global players in reducing their presence in Africa recently as they struggle to reach scale compared with local counterparts.

Mfano, Uber hawawezi kushindana na bodaboda who dominate the market.

Mobile banking/transactions aren't doing any favour to traditional banking. Hata local banks zina-struggle sema hazina namna.

Regulatory framework nayo siyo rafiki.

Despite investing heavily in digital banking Standard Chartered has found it hard to translate customer acquisition into steady profits. Ina facilities nzuri but wateja hakuna.

Barclays left Africa in 2016, ending its 90-year presence on the continent and I won't be surprised kama Standard Chartered nao wakafungisha virago within the next few years hata huko kwenye corporate banking.

Uchumi wetu bado haujafikia kiwango cha kuvutia global financial players. Tujikite na local players kwanza whilst also reforming our regulatory framework.
