Pellegrini to ignore Mourinho in future

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini insists last week's attack on Jose Mourinho was a one-off and he has refused to be drawn into a further war of words with the Chelsea boss. • Mooney: Plan B needed Pellegrini accused the Portuguese of lying after he had branded City as lucky and said they have benefited from refereeing decisions this season. And in response to Mourinho’s comments that Chelsea were the “little horse” in the title race, Pellegrini claimed that the Blues were the Premier League’s big spenders.

Mourinho hit back by questioning Pellegrini’s maths and urging the Football Association to ban City midfielder Yaya Toure for a kick at Norwich’s Ricky van Wolfswinkel in Saturday’s 0-0 draw. However, the Ivory Coast international escaped a three-game ban and Pellegrini said: “I suppose the FA acts in the way they think is better for all the teams. I trust in the FA and I trust in referees.”

And the Chilean, whose rivalry with Mourinho dates back to their days in Spain, insisted he will not continue the public argument. He said: “I just answered once to Mourinho because if you remain always in silence, people may agree with those things. He started talking about referees and financial fair play. I don’t think it is the way. I will not continue every week talking about things that for me are not an important level.” Pellegrini also believes Mourinho’s rhetoric is a distraction from events on the pitch, which is why he prefers to ignore whatever his successor at Real Madrid says.

He added: “I don’t respond to things Mourinho says every week because he will continue every week to try talking about things that are not [related to] football.”

Nasri and Garcia set to return for Chelsea FA Cup clash Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has the two midfielders at his disposal but Sergio Aguero and Fernandinho could also miss the Champions League tie against Barcelona

By Ed Huntley Feb 14, 2014 3:04:00 PM

Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed Samir Nasri and Javi Garcia are fit to face Chelseain the FA Cup this weekend. Nasri was set to be out for up to eight weeks after suffering a medial knee ligament injury in a 2-0 win over Newcastle United, but good progress has seen him return in half the expected lay-off time.

Garcia was kept out of action with a slight knee injury, but both return to face a Chelsea side who haven¡¯t lost in 12 games. However, City are again without Sergio Aguero, Fernandinho and Matija Nastasic, who are also doubtful for the Champions League bout with Barcelona. "Nastasic, Fernandinho and Aguero are not ready,"

Pellegrini told reporters at his pre-match press conference on Friday. "For now it's not planned for Aguero and Fernandinho to play on Tuesday [against Barcelona]." The 60-year-old knows what to expect for this weekend¡¯s cup match, as the fixture falls just 12 days after the Londoners beat the Sky Blues 1-0 in the Premier League at the Etihad Stadium. "I think it'll be a very similar game [to the league game] as we have a style of play that we don't change no matter who we're against," he said.
"We know the important players that Chelsea have, the way they play. "From the other game we know also that we have to try not to be very open on the counterattack."

Manchester Cityhave received planning permission to increase the capacity of the Etihad Stadium to over 60,000. The proposed expansion will make the Etihad the second largest ground in England's top flight, with only Old Trafford - home of City's fierce rivals Manchester United - holding more.

The plans will bump the Etihad's capacity from 48,000 to approximately 62,000. A statement on the club's official website read: "Manchester City Football Club has today [Friday] received formal notification of the granting of planning permission to expand the Etihad Stadium.

"It is the club's current intention to first proceed with the development of the South Stand.
