I know your education system is not strong and you rely on village rumors and women gossip to learn but I will teach you something important today.
There is a subject called mathematics (I know it is quite a mouthful for a Tanzanian) but this subject enables you to analyze abstract patterns using numbers. In this subject there is a topic called statistics, now in statistics it is sometimes impossible to get the opinion of everybody ie the population. so these mathematicians do witchcraft(a word you understand and a craft you practise) by taking a smaller part of the population called a sample and studying the data using this sample then extrapolate it to the population.
That is why you get the 20,000 sample because it is not possible to get the opinion of all 7 billion people in the world.
I hope my explanation at primary school level has done something to shine some light in the academic graveyard that is your education system. Kind Regards

Feelings peleka kwenu ( Hiyo ndiyo tunaita kelele za chura). study mathematics first, then you can start commenting on statistical matters.
i) Do you know the criteria they used to divide the world into 4 regions? eg You can combine europe and asia into one region called eurasia. You can combine north and south america into the Americas. Africa and the middle east are usually combined into another region and australia and new zealand are usually combined to give a total of 98% of the world population. If you notice those are 4 regions representing 98% of the world population.
ii)Do you know the criteria they used to select the samples in each region? eg in each region i can choose a representative sample of 5000 people.
These are the questions you should ask not, blubbering your Tanzanian ignorance and illiteracy. The quality of the sample size is what matters. For that, you should go to the report, read it then you can critique. Not to criticize ignorantly the quality of the sample size without knowing how they did it(hii ndiyo tunaita umama na ujinga).
