MOSCOW -- The Russian head of the World Chess Federation said he spoke Tuesday with Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi and that he remains in Tripoli and "wants to defend his country."

Kirsan Ilyumzhinov has known Gadhafi for years. His visit to Tripoli this summer was the last time the Libyan leader was seen in public after NATO airstrikes began. The two of them were filmed playing chess together on June 12.

"In Arabic language, Moammar Gadhafi said that now he is in his country, he doesn't want to leave his homeland, he wants to defend his country and he wants to thank all people in the world who support his small country, small nation who fights against countries from NATO," Ilyumzhinov said in an interview with Associated Press Television News. "And after that he adds in English: Thank you very much!"

Gadhafi's whereabouts have been of intense interest as rebels have claimed control over much of Libya's capital and stormed his main military compound.

So... bado Tripoli haijaangukia katika mikono ya NATO na rebels?

12:55pm: The sound of heavy gunfire could be heard on Wednesday coming from the area around the Rixos hotel in Libya’s capital, said a Reuters reporter, who was near the hotel. The reporter said he could hear small-arms fire and the sound of anti-aircraft guns, which are used by both sides in the conflict to attack targets on the ground. A group of foreign reporters is inside the Rixos hotel, and has been prevented from leaving by armed men loyal to Muammar Gaddafi.

Kwa kweli ni hotuba nzuri....
 
France and its partners at the United Nations are working on a draft resolution aimed at unfreezing Libyan assets and unlocking sanctions, a French diplomatic source said on Wednesday.
The resolution is still in the preliminary stages and will be worked out in the next few days during talks in Qatar, Turkey and New York, the source said, without giving a timeframe.

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said on Tuesday he will only recognize a Libyan government led by his friend and ally Muammar Gaddafi and accused the United States of inciting the country's civil war.
Chavez, who has been the most vocal world leader to support Gaddafi, accused Western powers of riding roughshod over international law by backing Libya's rebels in their revolt.

Wacha utani mkuu...lol
Juzi na jana vyombo vya habari vilituongopea kwa kusema Tripoli ipo mikononi mwa us-NATO rebels na utawala wa Gaddafi umeanguka.

US na NATO wamechakachua upeperushaji na upokeaji wa mawasiliano (jamming,jumming) kutoka Tripoli.
Lakini nitampigia Sarkozy.
