In general i think the West were quite happy with the arrangements they had with most regimens in Middle East & North Africa! However they were caught unawares by the civilian uprising in the countries especially in Egypt and Libya!!! So in the early days of the civillian uprising they kept their distance and observed, then they judged that the people/civilians would win....and the west being the west they would always look after No.1 (their national interests), hence backed the winning side (with the view of continued influence/ guarding their national interests oil/ military bases etc)!!!
i don't think the West are evil as evil as some have commented but are only acting in their perceived national interests i.e. side with the Libyan people who want a change in leadership now, because they will remember that we did help them hence they will give us preferential treatment when it comes to oil deals etc...

thats my take!!

No! they aint gonna do anything to these countries cause they aint got no oil. A lot of negotiations were carried out under the scene to find the best way to take advantage of this situation that's why they (westerner) were quiet for a while. They'll use the way Ghadaffi handled the situation as an excuse to get more oil. These guys have long term strategies and the Obama administration wants to capitalize on this issues for his re-election.

Look! in this world you can always find reasons to justify your actions and this is exactly what NATO and others are doing. Just to remind you these guys don't have permanent enemies or permanent friends but I assure you that they do have permanent interests (in this case oil).

You'll never see their nose in countries like Ivory Coast or ours for that matter cause we don't have energy resources. I don't wanna get too philosophical here talking about Sun Tzu or ranting about the theories of physics (energy) and why organisms behave they way they do when there is energy scarcity. But get this fella! In this world it's all about S&R (survival and replication) this is the law of nature, it works for both plants and animals.

Having said all that I'm thankful that this world is not my home and thank you Jesus for saving my soul. God bless.

Once the UN no fly zone resolution was passed, there was nothing that he could do to stop these guys bombing him; short of resigning and fleeing the country! Yaani the UN has given the resolution enforcers all the powers to do whatever they want short of putting soldiers on the ground! All they have to say is that the tanks packed on Gaddafi's garden are a security threat to Libyan civillians...then BOMB!

Yep, in fact scenario nyingine ni kuwa wana buy time ili rebels wajipange vizuri with assistance from Arab League na International Community (EU na UN) since washasema Gaddafi amepoteza uhalali wa kutawala then wawasaidie kuadvance kwenda Tripol a la Northern Alliance in Afghanistan.
