Another milestone this year in healthcare is that 60% of the Kenyan population from the urban areas to villages are now under health insurance by both NHIF and private health insurance companies like AAR (Big 4 Agenda: universal health coverage by 2022).
NHIF is looking to insure 80% of Kenyans by end of 2020.
Another milestone in the pension sector is that now 59% of Kenyans are saving for retirement through Nssf. The people saving are majorly self employed people and formally employed including jua kali workers, hawkers etc.
Also coming up on kiambu road is the Kiambu Road Investment Limited Hospital (KRIL) by AAR.
KRIL Hospital
Phase 1:

a) 100 beds with 26 ICU beds
b) Gym fully equipped
c) Lazy River pool
d) sauna and spa
e) Internationally accredited Diagnostic facilities with equipment being supplied by general electric.
Phase 2:
400 additional beds with another 20 ICU beds

From the start NHIF will be used, once they are accredited by NHIF for outpatient and inpatient services.
Apart from south africa, Kenya is the only other country from sadc to the eac, where you can get world class healthcare comparable to european hospitals.
I remember my last annual check up at Aga khan, in the triage i was connected constantly to a patient monitor and they did conclusive tests to make sure I was healthy. I did not pay a coin, AAR and NHIF catered for the check up.
