In a highly publicized press conference meant to address Tanzania’s ongoing Local government election process, Tundu Lissu, CHADEMA's Vice Chairman for Tanzania Mainland, voiced deep skepticism about the fairness and integrity of the current electoral climate.

Speaking to journalists today, Tuesday, November 12, 2024, Lissu expressed doubt that any viable means remain to restore credibility to the election, which he views as fundamentally compromised.

“If you ask me (Tundu Lissu, Vice Chairman of CHADEMA Tanzania Mainland) to speak truthfully beyond just political matters, if you ask me if there’s any way to save this election, I will tell you there isn’t unless we start over,” Lissu said, questioning the possibility of fair reforms under the current administration.

“You would be foolish to believe that this woman (President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan) and CCM will agree to start over, so we cannot start anew because these are not people who reform themselves.”

Lissu went on to declare that the election process was beyond repair, asserting that opposition candidates still in the race are effectively competing in a tainted process.

“So, this year’s election is over. If you want me to tell you, I will say it is over. The remaining opposition candidates will proceed to the election, but this election is finished, it has been disrupted, it has been tainted, and that is the truth of God,” he stated.
