[TD="width: 752"] It was when Nyerere was in Musoma that John Hatch from the Labour Party came to Tanganyika as a guest of TANU. The Party held a very big meeting at Mnazi Mmoja and Hatch addressed the people. It is estimated about 20,000 TANU members and supporters turned out for the meeting. In that meeting Ali Mwinyi Tambwe interpreted for Hatch. Denis Phombeah, as well as the General Secretary of TANU, Oscar Kambona, also spoke. Hatch, who was sympathetic to the emancipation of the black race, found out that TANU did not have a formal women's wing. At a teaparty given by TANU in his honour Hatch raised this issue with Schneider and Rupia. Hatch told Schneider that to have a strong movement women must not be left behind. Hatch told Schneider that the Labour Party in Britain had women as its main constituents.

[TD="width: 752"] Schneider approached Bibi Tatu Binti Mzee and asked her to organize a women's wing for TANU. Bibi Tatu Binti Mzee recommended Bibi Titi Mohamed because of her outgoing character and the fact that she was a member of Bomba Kusema. And it is from this nucleus of women's societies in Dar es Salaam that Umoja wa Wanawake wa Tanganyika came to be formed in 1962, and Bibi Titi Mohamed was elected its first chairperson. Many people think that Bibi Titi Mohamed was recruited into the Party by Nyerere. Bibi Titi addressed two meetings after the Hatch meeting in June, 1955, at Mnazi Mmoja; and by then she had not yet been introduced to Nyerere. In fact Bibi Titi and her husband Boi Selemani were recruited into the movement by Schneider Plantan. Boi Selemani is the holder of TANU card no. 15 while Bibi Titi as already mentioned is holder of card no. 16.

[TD="width: 752"] Taarab groups in Dar es Salaam and exclusive Muslim women's societies such as Saniyyat Hubb, Goodluck, Coronation, Bomba Kusema and lelemama groups, which were affiliated to either Al-Watan or Egyptian, played a very significant role in mobilising people to support TANU. Leading and mobilising these women's societies were Bibi Titi Mohamed and a Manyema lady, Bibi Hawa Binti Maftah. No single person apart from Nyerere himself was able to popularize TANU as Bibi Titi Mohamed did. Bibi Hawa Binti Maftah as the head of lelemama was known as ‘The Queen'. She was the one who introduced lelemama songs into TANU meetings to boost party morale. Similar women's societies in Tabora like Nujum ul Azhar, Waradatil Hubb and Egyptian Club under women such Nyange Binti Chande and Dharura Binti Abdulrahman helped to give TANU a foothold in Western Province.

Jamani kweli nyie hamna lolote huko kwenu?
Basi nyie mkiandika matusi tu?

Mohamed Said,

Mwaka 1955 mkutano kuudhuliwa na watu 20,000 pale Mnazi Moja huo mkutano ilikuwa siyo mchezo umefanyika Nyerere yupo kwao Musoma.

Mohamed Said,

Tafwadhali endelea kutupa chakula cha ubongo Ilm.

Kuna watu humu ukumbini wamechanganyikiwa tatizo lako una hit under the belt mpaka mtu anamwaga matusi Hadhwarani.

Mohamed Said tufahamishe kidogo kisa cha Peter Colmore.

Ritz,

Huchoki kunichokoza.

Ally Kleist Sykes and Peter Horace Colmore, Nairobi 1940s

Even in those days Ally Sykes was fluent in English, speaking with a very pleasant accent. Peter Colmore was an English aristocrat his father Major Horace Colmore was also in the army but died in 1937, before the war began in Europe.

Peter Colmore was at that time a Lieutenant and Aide De Camp to General Sir William Platt Commander in Chief of the East African Forces.

Ally Sykes was a Lance Corporal.

That meeting in that record shop was a good omen because later after the war their relationship would evolve around music and the business enterprise they we would build would have music as its basic foundation.

I remember as a young boy visiting Ally Sykes' office at Lindi Street with my father and seeing for the first time huge reel to reel tape deck playing very soothing music behind Ally Sykes' desk.

There were also stacks and stacks of records lying around. The room was air conditioned.

It was also the first time I saw an air condition.

It was one of the nicest rooms I have ever been to and to a young boy of about 10 years it was really something to wonder about.

After the war and general demobilization from the army Ally Sykes disembarked in Mombasa from the ship which was bringing ex service men back home.

It was a "jump ship" of sorts as he was supposed to go to Dar es Salaam.

Ally took a train from Mombasa station to Nairobi to seek for employment.

Ally did not want to go back home.

He had enough experience in Burma fighting the Japanese, he thought he was old enough to look after himself.

Peace had created new opportunities to those who wanted to settle in Kenya including Africans. Ally went to look for Peter Colmore.

Ritz,

Yam, Yam.

Hili halijawahi kutokea nchini. Hata mara moja hatujaangalia parity katika uongozi. Ukishakubali 'parity' ya dini wengine watauliza vipi makabila. Kwanini dini ndio iwe kigezo kikubwa zaidi?

Hapo kwenye red unaongea kama nani? ulikuwa Serikalini? Mimi nilimaliza darasa la 7 mwaka 1979. Darasani tulikuwa 25, Waislamu 15, Wakristo 7 na baniani 3! tuliochaguliwa waislamu 4, wakristo 4 na baniani 1! Why?

Vipi kuhusu kawawa?
Kassim bin Juma,Adam Simba,Salehe Masasi. Nao wamedanganywa? Na nyakati za sasa vipi Saidi Mwema? Shamse Vuai Nahodha? Suleiman Kova? Bakwata?

These bunch of muslim lads ni wengi sana kudanganywa...

Easy manupulated, and naive?
