marais wengi wa afrika wamefika kule tayari...it depends on the ties between china and the african country...in kenya, we have the sgr and many other projects we are cooperating with China such as the Nairobi Global Business Centre and Ngara real estate projects....the president must be present to witness such deals being signed...as for tz, there's nothing of significance they are doing with China at the moment...

You dont understand BOT. Land is leased to Chinese investor not owned. All commercial risks related to Development and Operations are with the investor not Tz. Tz will continue to get money inform of Custom Duties at the port. Once the chinese investor recoups its investment and makes its profit from cargo handling as per the BOT agreement..The port is handled over to TZ free of charge
Kenya SGR is Loaned at 8% dollar loans, Its operated at 1bn per month paid to china from Kenya taxpayers for the next 10 years. If kenya fails to pay loans, the mombasa port bites the dust
 
Build Operate Transfer Project is Not A loan. Poor negotiators are the ones who get loans. BoT is a sort of differed FDI which accrues when the period of BoT ends or is renogotiated.
In actual sense, Dar Provincial commisioner is making better deals than Uhuru. What a shame

In BoT,Its always in the intrest of the investor to Quickly Recoup his invested Money and make a profit out of it. IF the chinese investor wants to run bagamoyo at a loss then its up to him to absorb the loses,meanwhile TZ will still charge Customs Duties and Taxes from the investement.
If Kenya SGR runs at a loss, CHINA doesnt care! They will still earn their money from the loan

You are very right my broda. In PPP normally the risk is shifted to the promoter or private party. Which is quite different from the conventional loan (refer WHAT happened to lenders of KQ). In conventional loan whether you are making a profit or loss, the interest will keep on accruing. But under design finance build operate and transfer, if the project is making loss no interest will be accruing, but only the revenue sharing will be affected accordingly.
PPP is more favourable that consensional loan.

Nah, its not always in the interest of the investor to quickly recoupe a certain investment. .. especially is they can make more money of it in other ways.. money that GoT will never get a share. customs duties are charged at a port regadless of how or who owns the port even Srilanka charges the Chinese customs and taxes...
that lease for Bagamoyo will run for 99 years... (we will all be dead by then) . FYI China merchant holding group is the one that will aquire the port. It also owns a number of ports around the world using the same model. Even the port in Srilanka that chinese took over.. guess what? Its for 99yrs lease then "they give it back" ... but the company is majority govt owned, it is the world leading container producer and owns one of the biggest shipping fleets..they plan to use these ports they own to reduce service chages charged by independent ports(this will mean revenue loss at the ports they own bcoz they will subsidize charges for their own ships) So that they can get maximum profits from the shipping... they will make sure they dont recoupe their $10B in those 99 years so they can continue using the port...
