what raila maniacs have never understood for years now is that you cant isolate a whole community to achieve your political ambitions. They must learn to accommodate kikuyus coz its this issue that earns kikuyus sympathy from among other communities and hence clinching power.kyuks are here to stay and raila must accomodate them

"We are committed to a peaceful electoral process," he said at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC), Nairobi.

He said the coalition was ready to hit the ground running to canvass for votes countrywide.

Jubilee leaders claim ploy to divide Central vote

Uhuru%20Kenyatta.jpg

By Francis Ngige

KENYA: Jubilee Coalition leaders pitched camp in Meru to woo the region and claimed there is a plot by ‘outsiders' to divide the Mt Kenya electorate.

Presidential candidate Uhuru Kenyatta and his running mate William Ruto toured of the region, emphasising on the need for locals to remain in one political grouping.

Just a day after being cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to run, the team predicted that the March 4 General Election would be won depending on voter turnout.
They claimed there are "outsiders" who want the region that has over the years voted as a bloc, divided.

They hit back at CORD Alliance leaders, who had accused them of being part of the status quo. With local political kingpin Kiraitu Murungi rooting for Alliance Party of Kenya (APK), Uhuru and Ruto used the opportunity to implore the locals to vote as a bloc "as they have done before".

Uhuru passionately pleaded with the voters not to "abandon him at the hour of need" and even invoked God's name.

"Ma ya Ngai mutikadige niudu nimue ati tumete haraya (In God's name please don't abandon me since you know we have come from far)", Uhuru pleaded with the crowds.

As Kiraitu went missing from the entourage, the two leaders avoided directly attacking him, but said it would be prudent if the votes from the region were not split. Uhuru said his desire was to see his supporters under one roof.

Although Kiraitu has pledged to support Uhuru's candidature, his party is fielding candidates for all elective seats in Meru, Tharaka Nithi, and Embu counties.

Evidently absent

His party candidates were conspicuously absent from Uhuru's campaign trail and their posters do not indicate their presidential candidate. Besides Kiraitu, former Imenti Central MP Gitobu Imanyara has been campaigning for ODM.

Previously, the region has solidly voted for President Kibaki and with him out of the picture, it is not clear how voting trends would be. On Thursday, Uhuru and Ruto extended an olive branch to Kiraitu, saying there was no difference between them and the Energy minister.

"We have no problem with any leader from this region, but all we are saying is we should be a team to emerge victorious on March 4," said Uhuru. The DPM said apart from winning the presidency, the Jubilee Coalition was targeting a majority in Parliament, and the Senate.

The team, including local leaders Kilemi Mwiria, Kareke Mbiuki, and Mithika Linturi, addressed rallies in Laare, Mutuati, KK and later Maua.
"We are not against any party. What we are saying is that we need a strong government that is why we should not allow outsiders to divide us," Uhuru said. Ruto said the region stood to gain from the Jubilee, dismissing the others as "people who just want to divide you".

Responding to a challenge from the Prime Minister that they disclose the source of their wealth, the two said they were open to scrutiny. "Victory will be determined by numbers and not magic. He (Raila) should realise Kenyans are brighter than he thinks," said Ruto.
