The last contender on UEFA Women’s Champions League was FC Barcelona. When Rakuten became the main sponsor for the male’s team jersey (2017), the club decided to stop offering the female teams as a plus feature. So Stanley, provider of tools and storage, got on board with a sponsorship deal that covers all the expenses for FC Barcelona women’s football team. In Germany, FC Bayern München works with T-Mobile as their main sponsor for the male’s team, and Allianz for their female’s team. In Frauen-Bundesliga (also sponsored by Allianz), FC Bayern München is a top competitor, coming second place because of Vfl Wolfsburg performance, after a two season winning streak.
The lesson learned from these top tier clubs is that there is an opportunity to have independent income for women’s football teams through sponsorship. Most of these clubs use this income to continue developing their women’s team and get more results, recognition and sponsors. A virtuous circle that keeps growing in Europe.
