Pamoja na maelezo yote uliyopewa, logic na uhifadhi wa uTaifa ulioasisiwa na Mwalimu bado inaelekea umzito kuelewa, hatuwezi kubishana pasipo mwisho, kama huelewi huelewi tu.

Uthibitisho wa Njama Dhidi ya Uislam
Hivi sasa kuna vitabu viwili vilivyoandikwa na Wakristo wenyewe vinavyothibitisha kuwa Wakristo wametumia nyadhifa zao katika serikali kuuhujumu Uislam na Waislam. Jan P van Bergen katika kitabu chake, Development and Religion in Tanzania,(1981) ametoboa siri kuhusu uadui aliokuwa nao Rais Mstaafu, Nyerere dhidi ya Uislam na Waislam. Kitabu kinaeleza kwa ufasaha jinsi Nyerere wakati alipokuwa madarakani alivyokuwa akifanya mikutano ya siri na viongozi wa Kanisa kuweka mikakati ya kuupa nguvu Ukristo. Katika mikutano hiyo Nyerere aliwahakikishia viongozi wa Kanisa kuwa anaaunga mkono Ukristo. Kitabu hicho kinaeleza jinsi Nyerere alivyotimiza ahadi yake hiyo kwa Kanisa kwa kuhakikisha kuwa anawapa Wakristo nafasi za juu katika serikali na chama. Kitabu hiki kilikuwa kinauzwa Catholic Bookshop, Dar es Salaam. Lakini ilipokuja kudhihirikia Kanisa kuwa kitabu hiki kilikuwa kinatoa habari nyeti na siri za Kanisa kuhusu njama dhidi ya Waislam, kwa haraka sana kikaacha kuuzwa. Hadi hivi sasa kitabu hicho ni marufuku kuletwa tena Tanzania.

Kitabu cha pili ni cha Dr John C. Sivalon, Kanisa Katoliki na Siasa ya Tanzania Bara 1953 Hadi 1985 (1992). Kitabu hiki kinaeleza njama ndani ya serikali kuuhujumu Uislam. Sivalon anafichua kuwa kuanzia mwaka 1961 baada ya Tanganyika kupata uhuru, Kanisa lilikuwa na hofu mbili. Hofu ya kwanza ilikuwa umoja wa madhehebu za Kiislam kati ya Sunni, Bohora, Ismailia na Ithnasheri. Hofu ya pili ilikuwa kuhamishwa kwa makao makuu ya EAMWS kutoka Mombasa kuja Dar es Salaam. Kanisa lilikuwa linahofu kuwa mali walizokuwanazo Waasia Waislam zikitiwa katika harakati za Waislam ambao walikuwa na nguvu kubwa katika uwanja wa siasa zitaathiri maslahi ya Ukristo katika Afrika ya Mashariki. Kwa ajili hii Kanisa likatanganza kuwa Uislam ni adui wake na ikaanza mikakati ya hujma dhidi ya Uislam ili kuudhoofisha. Kuna kazi mbili zilizoandikwa na Waislam kuhusu uhusiano baina ya serikali na Waislam. Kazi ya kwanza ni tasnifu ya Kiwanuka, ëThe Politics of Islam in Bukoba Districtí (1973); kazi ya pili ni makala ya utafiti ëIslam and Politics in Tanzaniaí (1989) iliyoandikwana mwandishi wa kitabu hiki. Ilikuwa baada ya kusoma tasnifu ya Kiwanuka na kuona jinsi ukweli wa kuvunjwa kwa EAMWS kulivyopoteshwa ndipo kama Muislam na kama ada ya Uislam inavyodai kuwa pande mbili za mgogoro zote lazima zisikilizwe, ndipo nilipoamua kufanya utafiti na kuandika tatizo lile kwa mtazamo wa Waislam. Ukweli ambao kwa miongo miwili ulizuiwa usifahamike kwa Waislam. Kiwanuka anadai na kuafiki kuwa Nyerere alikuwa na haki ya kutumia vyombo vya dola dhidi ya Waislam kwa kuwa kama asingefanya hivyo nchi ingekuwa na mamlaka mbili, yaani ya Waislam na ya serikali. Kwa ajili hii aliamua kuivunja EAMWS ili ëkulinda umoja wa kitaifaí.

Halikadhalika ipo ëKwikima Reportí (1968) ambayo imeeleza kwa ufasaha tatizo la EAMWS, chanzo chake na mchango wa serikali katika kuhujumu umoja wa Waislam. Taarifa hii inafaa kutumika leo kama dira ya kuelewa tatizo la Waislam wa Tanzania kama ilivyokuwa wakati ule ilipotolewa kwa mara ya kwanza. Taarifa ya Kwikima inaeleza jinsi TANU, serikali na Waislam wachache katika TANU walivyodanganyika kudhani kuwa katika kuisaidia serikali kuivunja nguvu EAMWS walikuwa wanatimiza uzalendo na maslahi ya taifa. Rejea hizi tano ni muhimu kwa wanafunzi wa historia ya siasa Tanzania; na kwa mtafiti yeyote anaetaka kujua chanzo cha chuki baina ya Waislam na serikali na chanzo cha hisia kali za kidini zinazoikumba nchi yetu kuanzia miaka ya 1980. Rejea zote hizo za vitabu, makala za utafiti na taarifa mbalimbali, ingawa zimeandikwa na waandishi tofauti na kwa muelekeo tofauti zote hizi zinadhihirisha kitu kimoja ñ kuwepo kwa njama zinazoendelea kwa zaidi ya karne moja dhidi ya Uislam na Waislam, kwanza zilikuwa zikifanywa na wakoloni walioitawala Tanganyika na sasa zinafanywa na Wakristo wananchi kuhakikisha kuwa Uislam haupati nguvu. Kama hali ndiyo hii vipi Uislam hadi leo bado upo Tanzania na unazidi kupata nguvu kila kuchao? Jibu lipo ndani ya Quran.
 
Kiwanuka anadai na kuafiki kuwa Nyerere alikuwa na haki ya kutumia vyombo vya dola dhidi ya Waislam kwa kuwa kama asingefanya hivyo nchi ingekuwa na mamlaka mbili, yaani ya Waislam na ya serikali. Kwa ajili hii aliamua kuivunja EAMWS ili ëkulinda umoja wa kitaifa.

Mohammed, hii ndio point ambayo wengi wetu tumekuwa tukiisema hapa. Nyerere alitaka taifa moja lenye mshikamano na wala si vikundi vidogo vidogo kama ilivyo Lebanon. Kwa hili tumshukuru Nyerere.
 
Baada ya kueleza hayo yote ni muhimu sasa kuangalia jinsi ukereketwa wa Kikristo unavyofanya kazi katika serikali na jinsi kazi hiyo inavyoathiri Uislam. Wizara ya Elimu inachukuliwa kama mfano kwa sababu ya umuhimu wake katika jamii. Katika wizara hii, inaweza kuonekana kwa uwazi kabisa jinsi Ukristo unavyofanya kazi na jinsi udini ulivyoshamiri katika kugawa nafasi muhimu kati ya Waislam na Wakristo. Ilikuwa katika wizara hii katika historia ya Tanzania ndipo kwa mara ya kwanza waziri Muislam alipochaguliwa kuongoza wizara, Kanisa likaingilia kati waziwazi kumpiga waziri vita na kuhoji nafasi nyingine za juu ambazo zilipewa Waislam. Serikali haikuweza kupingana na Kanisa na waziri huyo, marehemu Profesa Kighoma Ali Malima aliondoshwa katika wizara hiyo.

Mwaka 1987 Profesa Malima aliteuliwa kuwa Waziri wa Elimu akiwa Muislam wa kwanza kushika nafasi hiyo. Mawaziri wanane waliopita walikuwa Wakristo. Kulikuwa na malalamiko kutoka kwa Waislam kuwa wizara hiyo imegeuzwa jimbo la Wakristo, hasa pale padri alipoteuliwa na Julius Nyerere kuongoza wizara hiyo. Profesa Malima aliposhika wizara hiyo aliona upo umuhimu wa kufanya marekebisho kadhaa ili kurejesha imani ya Waislam katika wizara hiyo. Kulikuwa na tuhuma kuwa Wizara ya Elimu ilikuwa ikiwabagua vijana wa Kiislam kupata nafasi katika vyuo vya elimu ya juu na ilikuwa ikizuia kupanda vyeo kwa Waislam.

Profesa Malima alipoona dhulma ile iliyokuwapo katika wizara ile dhidi ya Waislam, Profesa Malima aliwateua Waislam wanne kushika nafasi katika kurugenzi mbalimbali na akaandika taarifa ya siri kwa Rais Ali Hassan Mwinyi kumtaarifu udini alioukuta katika wizara ile. Katika taarifa ile kwa rais, Profesa Malima alieleza kuhusu kudumazwa kwa Waislam katika mgao wa elimu. Taarifa hii ilivuja kwa vyombo vya habari na kwa Wakristo wengine. Katika watu walioipata taarifa hii ni Rais Mstaafu Julius Nyerere wakati ule akiwa Mwenyekiti wa chama tawala CCM.

Kuwekwa kando kwa Waislam kupo wazi kiasi ya kuwa mtafiti haihitaji hata kufanya utafiti wa kina unaopewa nguvu na takwimu. Mtafiti yeyote wa sayansi ya jamii hatoweza kushindwa kuona ukweli huu kwa macho tu. Hali hii inaonekana katika kila nyanja ya maisha. Utafiti wa kwanza katika tatizo hili la Waislam kudhulumiwa katika ugawaji wa madaraka ulifanywa na vijana wa Kiislam katika jumuiya yao iliyokuwa ikijulikana kama Warsha ya Waandishi wa Kiislam, kwa ufupi ikijulikana kama Warsha.

Kanisa kwa mara ya pili tokea mwaka 1963 ilipata wasiwasi kuhusu mabadiliko ambayo yalikuwa yanafanyika katika Wizara ya Elimu. Lakini katika miaka ya 1980, hali ya mambo yalikuwa yamebadilika sana. Waislam walikuwa wamejizatiti nje ya mfumo wa siasa kiasi ya kuwa hapakuweza kupatika kibaraka katika Waislam ambae angekuwa tayari kutumika kulihami Kanisa. Hali ya uhasama wa wazi kati ya Waislam na serikali ilikuwa imejitokeza wazi kabisa. Hata hivyo mawakala wa kanisa katika serikali walimshutumu Profesa Malima kwa kuwa Muislam mwenye ësiasa kalií. Profesa Malima akatakiwa ahojiwe mbele ya Kamati Kuu ya CCM kwa kuingiza hisia za kidini ambazo zimesababisha uadui baina ya waumini wa dini hizi mbili. Suala hili likajadiliwa Dodoma chini ya uenyekiti wa Julius Nyerere. Lakini badala ya kujadili suala la dhulma kwa Waislam na kulitafutia ufumbuzi, yule anaedhulumiwa ndiye aliyewekwa kizimbani badala ya dhalim anaedhulumu; msukumo wa mjadala ukawa katika uteuzi wa wakurugenzi wanne Waislam aliofanya Profesa Malima katika Wizara ya Elimu. Profesa Malima alionekana amekiuka mwenendo na taratibu zulizodumu katika wizara ile kwa kipindi kirefu ya kuwa ni Wakristo pekee wenye haki ya kushika nafasi za juu katika wizara za serikali. Kwa ajili hii profesa Malima akavuliwa madaraka kama Waziri wa Elimu. Rais Mwinyi alikuwa hana uwezo wa kuhimili nguvu ya Kanisa. Nchi inayodai kuwa ni ya kisekula ilikuwa imeshindwa kwa mara nyingine kuwapa Waislam haki yao waliyohakikishiwa na katiba ya Tanzania.

Kwa nchi ambayo inajigamba kuwa inajali usawa kwa wananchi wake inashangaza kuona kuwa Waislam wanabaki nyuma na juhudi zozote ambazo Waislam watafanya ili kuondoa upogo kati yao na Wakristo na kujiletea maendeleo zinapata upinzani na uadui kutoka na mfumo ule ule unajidai kuwa unasimamisha usawa na haki. Kitu cha kusikitisha ni kuwa hakusimama hata Muislam mmoja katika wajumbe wa Kamati Kuu ya CCM kumuunga mkono Profesa Malima kwa dhulma ambayo wote walikuwa wanafahamu kuwa imedumu kwa kipindi kirefu. Hata ndani ya Bunge hakuna Muislam aliyekuwa na ujasiri wa kumtetea Profesa Malima. Muislam mmoja, Mwenyekiti wa Mkoa wa Pwani, Masudi Mtandika, aliungana na kambi ya Wakristo katka Kamati Kuu ya CCM kumshambulia Profesa Malima. Msimamo wa Mtandika ulikuwa sawa na ule wa Rajab Diwani na Selemani Kitundu walipomshambulia Bibi Titi Mohamed wakati Kamati Kuu ya TANU ilipokuwa ikijadili EAMWS mwaka wa 1963. Kampeni ya chuki na propaganda dhidi ya Profesa Malima ikaanzishwa na vyombo vya habari ambavyo vyote vilikuwa chini ya miliki ya Wakristo na hivyo chini ya Kanisa.
 
Baada ya kueleza hayo yote ni muhimu sasa kuangalia jinsi ukereketwa wa Kikristo unavyofanya kazi katika serikali na jinsi kazi hiyo inavyoathiri Uislam. Wizara ya Elimu inachukuliwa kama mfano kwa sababu ya umuhimu wake katika jamii. Katika wizara hii, inaweza kuonekana kwa uwazi kabisa jinsi Ukristo unavyofanya kazi na jinsi udini ulivyoshamiri katika kugawa nafasi muhimu kati ya Waislam na Wakristo. Ilikuwa katika wizara hii katika historia ya Tanzania ndipo kwa mara ya kwanza waziri Muislam alipochaguliwa kuongoza wizara, Kanisa likaingilia kati waziwazi kumpiga waziri vita na kuhoji nafasi nyingine za juu ambazo zilipewa Waislam. Serikali haikuweza kupingana na Kanisa na waziri huyo, marehemu Profesa Kighoma Ali Malima aliondoshwa katika wizara hiyo.

Mwaka 1987 Profesa Malima aliteuliwa kuwa Waziri wa Elimu akiwa Muislam wa kwanza kushika nafasi hiyo. Mawaziri wanane waliopita walikuwa Wakristo. Kulikuwa na malalamiko kutoka kwa Waislam kuwa wizara hiyo imegeuzwa jimbo la Wakristo, hasa pale padri alipoteuliwa na Julius Nyerere kuongoza wizara hiyo. Profesa Malima aliposhika wizara hiyo aliona upo umuhimu wa kufanya marekebisho kadhaa ili kurejesha imani ya Waislam katika wizara hiyo. Kulikuwa na tuhuma kuwa Wizara ya Elimu ilikuwa ikiwabagua vijana wa Kiislam kupata nafasi katika vyuo vya elimu ya juu na ilikuwa ikizuia kupanda vyeo kwa Waislam.

Profesa Malima alipoona dhulma ile iliyokuwapo katika wizara ile dhidi ya Waislam, Profesa Malima aliwateua Waislam wanne kushika nafasi katika kurugenzi mbalimbali na akaandika taarifa ya siri kwa Rais Ali Hassan Mwinyi kumtaarifu udini alioukuta katika wizara ile. Katika taarifa ile kwa rais, Profesa Malima alieleza kuhusu kudumazwa kwa Waislam katika mgao wa elimu. Taarifa hii ilivuja kwa vyombo vya habari na kwa Wakristo wengine. Utafiti wa kwanza katika tatizo hili la Waislam kudhulumiwa katika ugawaji wa madaraka ulifanywa na vijana wa Kiislam katika jumuiya yao iliyokuwa ikijulikana kama Warsha ya Waandishi wa Kiislam, kwa ufupi ikijulikana kama Warsha.

Kanisa kwa mara ya pili tokea mwaka 1963 ilipata wasiwasi kuhusu mabadiliko ambayo yalikuwa yanafanyika katika Wizara ya Elimu. Lakini katika miaka ya 1980, hali ya mambo yalikuwa yamebadilika sana. Waislam walikuwa wamejizatiti nje ya mfumo wa siasa kiasi ya kuwa hapakuweza kupatika kibaraka katika Waislam ambae angekuwa tayari kutumika kulihami Kanisa. Hali ya uhasama wa wazi kati ya Waislam na serikali ilikuwa imejitokeza wazi kabisa. Hata hivyo mawakala wa kanisa katika serikali walimshutumu Profesa Malima kwa kuwa Muislam mwenye ësiasa kalií. Profesa Malima akatakiwa ahojiwe mbele ya Kamati Kuu ya CCM kwa kuingiza hisia za kidini ambazo zimesababisha uadui baina ya waumini wa dini hizi mbili. Suala hili likajadiliwa Dodoma chini ya uenyekiti wa Julius Nyerere. Lakini badala ya kujadili suala la dhulma kwa Waislam na kulitafutia ufumbuzi, yule anaedhulumiwa ndiye aliyewekwa kizimbani badala ya dhalim anaedhulumu; msukumo wa mjadala ukawa katika uteuzi wa wakurugenzi wanne Waislam aliofanya Profesa Malima katika Wizara ya Elimu. Profesa Malima alionekana amekiuka mwenendo na taratibu zulizodumu katika wizara ile kwa kipindi kirefu ya kuwa ni Wakristo pekee wenye haki ya kushika nafasi za juu katika wizara za serikali. Kwa ajili hii profesa Malima akavuliwa madaraka kama Waziri wa Elimu. Rais Mwinyi alikuwa hana uwezo wa kuhimili nguvu ya Kanisa. Nchi inayodai kuwa ni ya kisekula ilikuwa imeshindwa kwa mara nyingine kuwapa Waislam haki yao waliyohakikishiwa na katiba ya Tanzania.

Kwa nchi ambayo inajigamba kuwa inajali usawa kwa wananchi wake inashangaza kuona kuwa Waislam wanabaki nyuma na juhudi zozote ambazo Waislam watafanya ili kuondoa upogo kati yao na Wakristo na kujiletea maendeleo zinapata upinzani na uadui kutoka na mfumo ule ule unajidai kuwa unasimamisha usawa na haki. Kitu cha kusikitisha ni kuwa hakusimama hata Muislam mmoja katika wajumbe wa Kamati Kuu ya CCM kumuunga mkono Profesa Malima kwa dhulma ambayo wote walikuwa wanafahamu kuwa imedumu kwa kipindi kirefu. Hata ndani ya Bunge hakuna Muislam aliyekuwa na ujasiri wa kumtetea Profesa Malima. Muislam mmoja, Mwenyekiti wa Mkoa wa Pwani, Masudi Mtandika, aliungana na kambi ya Wakristo katka Kamati Kuu ya CCM kumshambulia Profesa Malima. The persecution on Prof. Malima would not stop. It continued unabated, Malima began to receive threats through the mail which in turn he turned over to the State Intelligence. Naturally nothing came out of it. The Christian lobby organised psychological war against Prof. Malima. His enemies inside the Parliament formed an anti-Malima committee financed and supervised by known personalities inside and outside the House. The campaign entailed organising a group of about 60 to 80 Christian MPs who would jeer at him every time he spoke inside or outside Parliament buildings or during debating of bills that he was supposed to defend. Prominent among them including a Muslim were: David Holela, Arcado Ntagazwa, Jenerali Ulimwengu, Philip Marmo, Ntutemeke Sanga, Phares Kabuye and Njelu Kasaka. It is interesting after all these years which have passed to know what the end of these people was. It makes very interesting reading. The anti-Malima committee had journalists in its payroll who would negatively portray Prof. Malima in their papers. In desperation the Roman Catholic paper Kiongozi joined the crusade against Prof. Malima. The paper wrote that President Ali Hassan Mwinyi was requested to relieve Prof. Malima from his portfolio for presenting a mini-budget to the Parliament arguing that the act was unprecedented. The editor was not aware that mini-budgets were presented in 1978, 1983 and 1987. It was around this time that Business Times wrote that the IMF and the government of Canada have requested President Mwinyi to relieve Malima of his portfolio as Minister of Finance. This was a lie. The IMF representative in Tanzania Mr. Elwaleed M. Taha wrote to the editor refuting the story:

''... I wish to inform you that IMF respects the sovereignty of the Government of Republic of Tanzania and is here to work, in an advisory capacity, with public officials. To avoid erroneous reporting about IMF in the future, your reporters are welcome to contact me... I look forward to reading a correction in the next issue.''

Likewise the Canadian Government made a similar correction to Business Times. None of them was ever published nor did the editors apologised even in private. It became customary that the anti-Malima committee to meet every time a few weeks before Parliamentary session to prepare ways and means to attack Prof. Malima- and the public waited anxiously for the tussle between Prof. Malima and the Christian lobby.
 
And all this was happening under the Muslim President Alhaj Ali Hassan Mwinyi?

There were three reasons for this: First, while as Minister for Cabinet Affairs and International Co-operation in Mwinyi's government, Prof. Malima advised President Mwinyi to dislodge the Musoma connection in the Office of the President. Musoma is the home area in which Nyerere was hailing from. During his rule Nyerere pointed people from his home area to serve in the office of the president. This was the clique which dominated the office of the president during Nyerere's rule. When he came into office President Ali Hassan Mwinyi maintained the staff which had diligently served his predecessor. This staff could not conform to the new order and there were reports of disrespect, disloyalty, split of allegiance and abuse of trust. Confidential information found their way out of the President's Office into front pages of the private press. They were able to get several confidential memos and exposed them to the public through the press. During Mwinyi's government many confidential documents were stolen and exposed to general public through the press.

President Mwinyi confided to close associates that he lived under perpetual fear of being bugged by his own security personnel. Indeed a conversation between Principal Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Ibrahim Msabaha and the Tanzania Embassy in Washington was bugged and transcript of the conversation published in the private press. Dr Msabaha went to court to contest the publishing of confidential government information and lost the case with costs. One can just imagine and speculate the power of the Christian lobby. But what was saddening was the fact that President Mwinyi did nothing.

The press scandalised, ridiculed and poked fun at President Mwinyi with impunity, at times even questioning his appointments of Muslim functionaries. The press also insinuated on the dropping from the cabinet of Kingunge Ngombale Mwiru, Getrude Mongela and Joseph Warioba as being influenced by religious sentiments. Included in this war of words were selected Muslim Ministers - Prof. Kighoma Malima, Fatma Said Ali, Hassan Diria then Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation and Mustapha Nyang'anyi became favourite targets of ridicule by the private tabloids. It seemed the Christian lobby was irked that those powerful portfolios were in Muslims hands. This is a class which has been in power close to three decades and was used to privileges. The government and party owned media seemed to have lost allegiance to the government including loyalty to the president himself.

Baada ya kueleza hayo yote ni muhimu sasa kuangalia jinsi ukereketwa wa Kikristo unavyofanya kazi katika serikali na jinsi kazi hiyo inavyoathiri Uislam. Wizara ya Elimu inachukuliwa kama mfano kwa sababu ya umuhimu wake katika jamii. Katika wizara hii, inaweza kuonekana kwa uwazi kabisa jinsi Ukristo unavyofanya kazi na jinsi udini ulivyoshamiri katika kugawa nafasi muhimu kati ya Waislam na Wakristo. Ilikuwa katika wizara hii katika historia ya Tanzania ndipo kwa mara ya kwanza waziri Muislam alipochaguliwa kuongoza wizara, Kanisa likaingilia kati waziwazi kumpiga waziri vita na kuhoji nafasi nyingine za juu ambazo zilipewa Waislam. Serikali haikuweza kupingana na Kanisa na waziri huyo, marehemu Profesa Kighoma Ali Malima aliondoshwa katika wizara hiyo.

Mwaka 1987 Profesa Malima aliteuliwa kuwa Waziri wa Elimu akiwa Muislam wa kwanza kushika nafasi hiyo. Mawaziri wanane waliopita walikuwa Wakristo. Kulikuwa na malalamiko kutoka kwa Waislam kuwa wizara hiyo imegeuzwa jimbo la Wakristo, hasa pale padri alipoteuliwa na Julius Nyerere kuongoza wizara hiyo. Profesa Malima aliposhika wizara hiyo aliona upo umuhimu wa kufanya marekebisho kadhaa ili kurejesha imani ya Waislam katika wizara hiyo. Kulikuwa na tuhuma kuwa Wizara ya Elimu ilikuwa ikiwabagua vijana wa Kiislam kupata nafasi katika vyuo vya elimu ya juu na ilikuwa ikizuia kupanda vyeo kwa Waislam.

Profesa Malima alipoona dhulma ile iliyokuwapo katika wizara ile dhidi ya Waislam, Profesa Malima aliwateua Waislam wanne kushika nafasi katika kurugenzi mbalimbali na akaandika taarifa ya siri kwa Rais Ali Hassan Mwinyi kumtaarifu udini alioukuta katika wizara ile. Katika taarifa ile kwa rais, Profesa Malima alieleza kuhusu kudumazwa kwa Waislam katika mgao wa elimu. Taarifa hii ilivuja kwa vyombo vya habari na kwa Wakristo wengine. Katika watu walioipata taarifa hii ni Rais Mstaafu Julius Nyerere wakati ule akiwa Mwenyekiti wa chama tawala CCM.

With due respect. Yes I do. And this is how he died:

In his last act before his death in London, Prof. Malima took wudhu (ablutions) as if he was getting ready for salat (prayers). Around 01:25 hrs in the morning he laid down in bed. At around 01:30, precisely five minutes, he rose suddenly as if from a deep dream and said softly and pleasantly, "Alhamdulillah.' (All praise and gratitude is for Allah). He then fell back again in a sleeping posture. He was gone.
 
In 1981 Warsha conducted a social research project which no Muslim organisation had attempted before. It commissioned its educationists to write a research paper to show why Muslim students were lagging behind in education. When these findings were made public and distributed to throughout the country it came as a shock to Muslims and the government. For the first time it was revealed that there was a system in the Ministry of Education supported by Christian functionaries which was discriminatory to Muslim youths, purposely barring them from institutions of higher learning. Such accusations and disclosure particularly coming from Muslims, threatened national unity. The government did not want to find out whether those findings on education were correct or not. Its interest was to know the brains behind Warsha isolate them from Muslims and then persecute them. The government was unprepared for such revelations and was worried by the direction which Muslims were taking. Warsha were accused of being anti-government and perpetrating animosity between Muslims and Christians through their writings. Nyerere ordered the closer of all the Muslim seminaries.Warsha responded to these accusations by distributing leaflets to Muslims throughout the country informing them of the predicament facing the umma. The government could not match Warsha's truth with its propaganda. Muslims were sympathetic to Warsha and took Warsha's struggle as their own struggle. Muslims helped Warsha to establish a school Masjid Quba and Islamic Centre which was owned and managed by Muslims. In retaliation to these efforts the government refused to register the school. The school was perceived by the government as a centre of "Muslim fundamentalism." The government went further to subvert the school by warning Muslim parents that students completing their education at Masjid Quba would not be recognised by it and would not be considered for further education or for employment. Warsha was not to be deterred they decided to run the school and educate Muslim children even without government registration. Members of Warsha used to say that they have their consent from Allah; they don't need any permission from anyone. This was Warsha's motto. The school remained blacklisted by the government until 1988 when Prof. Malima as the first Muslim Minister of Education registered it. The Christian lobby in the government was infuriated.
 
Uthibitisho wa Njama Dhidi ya Uislam
Hivi sasa kuna vitabu viwili vilivyoandikwa na Wakristo wenyewe vinavyothibitisha kuwa Wakristo wametumia nyadhifa zao katika serikali kuuhujumu Uislam na Waislam. Jan P van Bergen katika kitabu chake, Development and Religion in Tanzania,(1981) ametoboa siri kuhusu uadui aliokuwa nao Rais Mstaafu, Nyerere dhidi ya Uislam na Waislam. Kitabu kinaeleza kwa ufasaha jinsi Nyerere wakati alipokuwa madarakani alivyokuwa akifanya mikutano ya siri na viongozi wa Kanisa kuweka mikakati ya kuupa nguvu Ukristo. Katika mikutano hiyo Nyerere aliwahakikishia viongozi wa Kanisa kuwa anaaunga mkono Ukristo. Kitabu hicho kinaeleza jinsi Nyerere alivyotimiza ahadi yake hiyo kwa Kanisa kwa kuhakikisha kuwa anawapa Wakristo nafasi za juu katika serikali na chama. Kitabu hiki kilikuwa kinauzwa Catholic Bookshop, Dar es Salaam. Lakini ilipokuja kudhihirikia Kanisa kuwa kitabu hiki kilikuwa kinatoa habari nyeti na siri za Kanisa kuhusu njama dhidi ya Waislam, kwa haraka sana kikaacha kuuzwa. Hadi hivi sasa kitabu hicho ni marufuku kuletwa tena Tanzania.

Kitabu hicho na author wake hata ukiwa-google hawapatikani. Inaelekea mwandishi pekee anayeona kuwa worthy of citation ni Brother Mohamed Saeed. Huyo mwandishi vile vile anazungumzia kuwepo kwa kitu kama Catholic Church Movement ( CCM) ambacho anadai kilihusika hata Biafra. Bila shaka, mwandishi huyo anataka tuamini kuwa Nyerere aliita chama chake Chama cha mapinduzi kuonyesha uhusiano na hiyo Catholic Church Movement. Kwa hiyo hao waislamu wote walio kwenye CCM ama kwa kujua au bila kujua wanatumikia chama cha wakatoliki!

Nyerere hajawahi kukana ukristu wake, alikuwa anahudhuria misa Kanisa la Petro Mtakatifu bila kukosa sasa kwa nini aone haja ya kuwahakikishia wakristu kwa kujificha kuwa yeye ni mkristu? Ali Hassan Mwinyi naye hata siku moja hakuwahi kukana uislamu wake na alikuwa akienda msikitini bila kificho. Sasa nae unataka kutuambia kuwa alikula njama na waislamu wenzake kugeuza nchi kuwa ya kiislamu?

Tuambie ni Standing Order ipi ya serikali ilipiga marufuku hicho kitabu ambacho hata Google hawakitambui? Unataka kutuambia serikali yetu ina nguvu kiasi cha kuwazuia watu kukibandika kwenye Google? hicho kitabu bila shaka kilikuwa mfano wa kijarida na kilko "out of print". Wewe kama una uchungu nacho mtafute publisher ( ambaye hata katika reference yako haujamtaja, unatumia mji wa Madras!) wake akitoe tena. Publisher aliye India hawezi kubanwa na sheria za Tanzania maana bila shaka watu kama wewe wako wengi ambao wangependa kukinunua!


Kitabu cha pili ni cha Dr John C. Sivalon, Kanisa Katoliki na Siasa ya Tanzania Bara 1953 Hadi 1985 (1992). Kitabu hiki kinaeleza njama ndani ya serikali kuuhujumu Uislam. Sivalon anafichua kuwa kuanzia mwaka 1961 baada ya Tanganyika kupata uhuru, Kanisa lilikuwa na hofu mbili. Hofu ya kwanza ilikuwa umoja wa madhehebu za Kiislam kati ya Sunni, Bohora, Ismailia na Ithnasheri. Hofu ya pili ilikuwa kuhamishwa kwa makao makuu ya EAMWS kutoka Mombasa kuja Dar es Salaam. Kanisa lilikuwa linahofu kuwa mali walizokuwanazo Waasia Waislam zikitiwa katika harakati za Waislam ambao walikuwa na nguvu kubwa katika uwanja wa siasa zitaathiri maslahi ya Ukristo katika Afrika ya Mashariki. Kwa ajili hii Kanisa likatanganza kuwa Uislam ni adui wake na ikaanza mikakati ya hujma dhidi ya Uislam ili kuudhoofisha. Kuna kazi mbili zilizoandikwa na Waislam kuhusu uhusiano baina ya serikali na Waislam. Kazi ya kwanza ni tasnifu ya Kiwanuka, ëThe Politics of Islam in Bukoba Districtí (1973); kazi ya pili ni makala ya utafiti ëIslam and Politics in Tanzaniaí (1989) iliyoandikwana mwandishi wa kitabu hiki. Ilikuwa baada ya kusoma tasnifu ya Kiwanuka na kuona jinsi ukweli wa kuvunjwa kwa EAMWS kulivyopoteshwa ndipo kama Muislam na kama ada ya Uislam inavyodai kuwa pande mbili za mgogoro zote lazima zisikilizwe, ndipo nilipoamua kufanya utafiti na kuandika tatizo lile kwa mtazamo wa Waislam. Ukweli ambao kwa miongo miwili ulizuiwa usifahamike kwa Waislam. Kiwanuka anadai na kuafiki kuwa Nyerere alikuwa na haki ya kutumia vyombo vya dola dhidi ya Waislam kwa kuwa kama asingefanya hivyo nchi ingekuwa na mamlaka mbili, yaani ya Waislam na ya serikali. Kwa ajili hii aliamua kuivunja EAMWS ili ëkulinda umoja wa kitaifaí.

Hapa tena unachanganya ushirikiano na hujuma. Ni wazi kuwa kanisa katoliki kama mmiliki mkubwa wa shule, hospitali na nyanja nyingine za maendeleo ni lazima lishirikiane na serikali. Rais Nyerere kama muumini wa dhehebu hilo alikuwa katika nafasi nzuri wa kuhakikisha kuwa ushirikiano huu una manufaa kwa nchi yake. Na ni hiki ndicho John C Sivalon katika Doctoral Thesis yake ambayo bila shaka ilitafsiriwa kuwa "Kanisa Katoliki na Siasa ya Tanzania Bara 1953 hadi 1985" ambacho kimechapishwa na Benedictines wa Peramiho na kuuzwa wazi wazi anachozungumzia. Mtu yeyote mwenye busara alitambua kuwa hatari kubwa iliyokuwa inanyemelea taifa changa la Tanganyika ni mgawanyiko wa kitabaka na udini. Kwa wenzetu ukabila ndiyo ulikuwa threat kubwa lakini hapa kwetu ilikuwa vitu hivi. Tofauti za elimu na maendeleo kati ya waumini wa dini tofauti zilikuwa wazi wakati ule. Kanisa Katoliki walitambua hilo na ndio maana toka mapema walisisitiza ushirikiano kati yao na haswa waislamu. Ndiyo maana hawakupiga kelele wakati shule zao, dispensari zao na hospitali zao zilipotaifishwa maana walielewa umuhimu wa kitendo hicho katika kujenga utaifa. Sijawahi hata siku moja kusikia kuwa kanisa katoliki lilimtenga Nyerere kwa kitendo hicho.

Na hofu hii vile vile ilichangia kwenye kifo cha EAMWS ambacho baadhi ya waislamu waliona kuwa si tuu kingetumika katika kuweka uadui kati ya waislamu na wenye dini nyingine bali hata baina ya waislamu kwa kuendeleza hegemony ya waislamu weupe , hususan kutoka Indian sub-continent, katika jamii yao. Hata chama cha kiislamu cha wakina Sykes kiliundwa haswa kwa wasi wasi huu. EAMWS kilionekana ni chama cha wahindi na chenye maslahi kwa wahindi ingawa mwanzilishaji wake Aga Khan alisistiza umoja wa waislamu. Umoja huu usingewezekana kwa sababu nyingine ambayo ni kuwa waislamu weusi wengi wakiwa waumini wa dhehebu la Sunni hawakuwatambua wa-ismailia, mabohora na ithnasheri ( ambao ni Shia) kama waislamu wenzao. Huko Zanzibar ambako tayari walikuwa na chuo, serikali ya mapinguzi ( ambayo viongozi wake karibu wote walikuwa waislamu), walitimuliwa na chuo chao kufungwa kwa wasiwasi huu huu, hofu ya kutawaliwa na wenye rangi nyeupe.

Sasa leo kumtupia lawama zote Nyerere ni fitna za hali ya juu.
Hizo chuki unzozungumzia kati ya waislamu na serikali yao ni figment ya imagination yako. Ni wewe na wachochezi wachache ambao mna chuki na ukristu na mnataka kujifanya kuwa wasemaji wa waislamu wote. Tunakaa, tumesoma, tumefanya kazi na tumeoa na kuzaa na waislamu na hii chuki hatuioni. Nyinyi ndio mnaotaka kutugawa. Hamtafanikiwa.
