It goes without saying that the reason Africa will face the worst of Covid-19 last is because we are very poorly connected to the rest of the world.
We do very little business with the rest of the world, which spared us the initial hit.
Probably more people move from China to the US in a week than they do from China to Africa in a year.
Same as Europe.
Now, time is catching up with us. And as expected, the most connected African country, South Africa, is the first to feel it.
In the last 24 hours, 572 South Africans died of Covid, its highest single day rate ever.
There are fears that the number will only go up, and that the actual number is underreported.
This is Africa's most advanced country.
In the next few weeks and months, African countries will have to decide on a few things:
1. Retain current restrictions.
2. Add even more restrictions.
3. Open up for the sake of the economy.
4. Continue burying their heads in the sand.
It will be a tough decision and you should all brace yourselves.
Remember, whether or not a Covid death is reported and counted, does not stop it from being a Covid death.

Lakini watafiti kutoka baraza la utafiti wa tiba nchini Afrika Kusini wamesema kuwa idadi ya waliopoteza maisha ni kubwa zaidi kuliko kawaida- wakisema kuwa maelfu ya vifo vitokanavyo na Covid-19 huenda havikuripotiwa.
Mpaka sasa, takwimu rasmi zinaonesha, karibu watu 6,000 walipoteza maisha kutokana na Covid-19.
Lakini tafiti za majuma kumi yaliyopita zinaonesha kuwa kumekuwa na vifo 17,000 zaidi kuliko kawaida.
Watafiti wanasema kuna vifo 11,000 ambavyo havijaelezwa.
Wanakisia kuwa vingi kati ya hivyo inawezekana kuwa vinahusiana na Covid-19 kama wale waliopoteza maisha wakiwa nyumbani na vifo vingine ambavyo havijaripotiwa.
Lakini kumekuwa na maoni kuwa raia wa Afrika Kusini wanaepuka kwenda hospitali- kwasababu hakuna nafasi, au wasiwasi wa kupata maambukizi.
