Didier Drogba criticizes proposal to have corovanirus vaccine tested in Africa

- Africans express anger over French some comments on using the continent as an experiment for the test of vaccine for the COVID-19

- Some footballers from the continent have dismissed the proposal by the doctors saying Africans are not human guinea pigs

- The players are Christian Atsu, Didier Drogba and Samuel Eto'o Fils

There is outrage among the black population in France and the world after two doctors on live television pushed for Africa to be the first place where coronavirus treatments are tested.

Some world-class footballers from Africa including former Chelsea cult hero Didier Drogba have also expressed their anger and condemned the suggestion made by the French doctors.

Christian Atsu, Didier Drogba and Samuel Eto'o Fils have all lashed out the doctors, saying Africa will not be used for the experiment of the treatment of a potential cure for the deadly coronavirus.

In a Clip that is fast going viral, one of the doctors Jean-Paul Mira seemed to suggest the vaccines should be tested in Africa where he believes there “are no treatment and masks”.

He went on to liken the situation to testing out AIDS vaccines on commercial ladies of the night.

The other doctor also named Dr. Camille Locht joined the conversation supporting his view and assertion.

Drogba was visibly the most irritated public figure by the comments on Friday, April 3 as he took to Twitter to fault them for what he viewed as blatant racism.

“I would like to vividly denounce those demeaning, false and most of all deeply racist words,” Drogba tweeted.

Some social media users have also expressed their disgust over the development with many calling on African leaders to protect its people .

On his part, Eto'o referred to the doctors as "assassins".

Insem issued a response to the back clash saying the doctors' words were completely misunderstood.

“If there is indeed a reflection around a deployment in Africa, it would be done in parallel with these. Africa must not be forgotten or excluded from research because the pandemic is global." a statement from insem said.
Africa is currently the continent least affected by the virus, although the numbers are steadily increasing by the day.

South Africa has the most cases reported with at least 1462 persons affected by the COVID-19, but with only five deaths confirmed.

In Kenya, the disease claimed the life of another patient on Friday, April 3, bringing the total number of casualties to four while the cases rose to 122.

The vaccine in question is a form of BCG, which is primarily administered to babies to prevent tuberculosis.

“If there is indeed a reflection around a deployment in Africa, it would be done in parallel with these. Africa must not be forgotten or excluded from research because the pandemic is global." Insem added in the statement.

Scientists have noted that countries which administer BCG have reported fairly fewer casualties from the coronavirus.
