1. The FBI or Federal Bureau of
Investigation is the main federal
law enforcement agency in the
United States. They have the
largest jurisdiction of any federal

US, and domestic law

the United States.


2. The CIA or Central Intelligence
Agency is also a member of the
U.S. Intelligence Community.
They are NOT a law enforcement
agency and they only operate
outside of the United States.
They work closely with the U.S.
State Department to gather
intelligence(significant
information) about international
events. Their main focus is
identifying terror groups and
threats before an attack is made.
It's common for intelligence
agencies to share information
with intelligence and law
enforcement agencies in allied
nations. Ie: Intelligence from the
CIA indicates a terrorist attack in
London. The CIA shares that intel
with MI-5 (British version of
FBI). The CIA does have a
paramilitary branch called the
Special Operations Group or SOG.
They support intelligence
operations through covert
military actions. IE: arming
rebels, Operation Geronimo (seal
team 6 killing Osama Bin Laden),
etc. They're basically reporters
with guns and drones.

country in local bureaus to assist local law
enforcement in enforcing the laws of the
United States and to neutralize threats to
American security.
The NSA is probably the least known and
most poorly understood government
intelligence agency. The NSA is actually
combined with the Central Security Service
(CSS), and it is primarily a cryptological
organization. NSA employees decrypt foreign
intelligence, generate encryption keys to
secure American information, and handle
data processing for the United States
government. The mission of the NSA is
“information assurance .” Information
assurance refers to breaking foreign
intelligence codes while retaining the security
of American information, which is
accomplished through encryption, secured
computer systems, and access control.
The NSA handles most American computer
intelligence and decryption, and has also
contributed significantly to computer
technology around the world. Early computers
were developed in the offices of the NSA, and
the NSA continues to innovate in the
technological field. NSA agents are primarily
found in the head offices of the organization
in Maryland, although they also work closely
with the United States Armed Forces to
secure military information on bases and in
the battlefield.

Hizi ni kati ya Idara kadhaa za Usalama na Ujasusi za Marekani.

Kwa ufupi ni kwamba nchi nyingi(kama sio zote), zinakuwa na vyombo kadhaa vya usalama ambavyo vipo kwenye makundi kadhaa. Na kutokana na ukubwa wa nchi, maendeleo na uwezo wa kifedha, nchi mbali mbali zinakuwa na mifumo tofauti ya kijasusi. Intelligence community ya Marekani in idara kama 17 hivi tofauti ambazo zote zinafanya kufanya kazi za ujasusi katika maeneo mbalimbali; NSA, CIA na FBI zote zipo ndani ya hii jumuia ambayo iko chini ya Director of National Intelligence.

NSA kazi yake kubwa ni kufanya SIGINT, ujasusi wa mawasiliano na kulinda mawasiliano ya serikali ya US.

CIA kazi yake kubwa ni kufanya HUMINT, ujasusi wa kibinadamu nje ya US, kufuatialia watu, kutisha etc. Ila ni nje tu ya Marekani.

FBI kazi yake ni kama CIA kiasi ila wao wanafanya ujasusi ndani ya Marekani na pia wanafuatilia kesi kubwa kubwa ndani ya nchi, wako chini ya Attorney General.

The main difference between the NSA and the CIA, FBI and DIA revolves around how each agency gathers its intelligence information. The NSA does not have field agents who do in-person intelligence gathering who travel the globe.


NSA is National Security Agency and CIA is Central Intelligence Agency. Both the NSA and the CIA are federal agencies of the U.S. that deal with the security, law enforcement, and intelligence of the country.

The CIA is mainly associated with gathering information internationally that is of relevance to the United States. The CIA operates across the world through various agents who send the information to its headquarters situated in Langley, Virginia. The CIA agents most often cooperate with other international agencies for collecting relevant information.

The NSA is not very much understood. The main mission of the NSA is information assurance. This means that the NSA is responsible for breaking foreign intelligence codes through secured computer systems, encryption, and access control. The NSA works in combination with the Central Security Service. The NSA deals with data processing, generating encryption keys to U.S. information, and decrypting foreign intelligence. NSA agents mainly sit in the headquarters that is based in Fort Meade, Maryland.


The CIA was formed on September 18th, 1947, and the NSA was formed on November 4th, 1962.

The NSA is divided into two missions: Signals Intelligence Directorate (SID) and
Information Assurance Directorate (IAD). The SID creates foreign signals intelligence, and the IAD protects the information systems of America.
The CIA has four major directorates: the Directorate of Intelligence, National Clandestine Service, Directorate of Support, and Directorate of Science and Technology.


These two agencies of the American government have specific areas of operation. Though the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Central Intelligence Agency have many differences, the two agencies cooperate and share information to a great extent.

While the Central Intelligence Agency deals with international issues, the Federal Investigation Bureau deals with domestic issues. The Federal Bureau of Investigation is the premier domestic law enforcement agency in the United States. The FBI mainly deals with domestic intelligence and they work for stopping any threats arising within the country. It protects and defends the US against terrorist and foreign intelligence threats. The FBI also helps the local police in handling major cases occurring in the country. It handles all major crimes including murders, interstate crimes and kidnapping.

If the CIA wants any information related to any person within America, the FBI officials gather relevant information.

Uko sawa kabisa, ndio moja kati ya mapendekezo ya 9/11 Commission kwamba taarifa zilikuwepo lakini kulikuwa hakuna ushirikiano wa hizi Idara. Mfano, baadhi ya jamaa waliohusika na kuteka ndege za 9/11 walikuwa wanajulikana na CIA lakini kwa sababu CIA wanafanya kazi nje ya US, jamaa walivyoingia tu Marekani CIA wakauchuna na bila kuwaambia FBI kama kuna majamaa hatari ndani ya nchi wanaopaswa kufuatiliwa.

Wenyewe walikuwa wanaita "Turf Wars", FBI na CIA walikuwa "hawapendani" mpaka kufikia hatua ya kuhatarisha usalama wa nchi, after 9/11 ndio ikaanzishwa Directorate of National Intelligence ambayo ilikusanya all the intelligence agencies ndani ya US kuwa "chini" yake.
