2014 rate was 18-21% intrest on depo was 14-19% I wount blame you coz you have no savings like me. You are a very poor kibera resident,Even before the rate cap, savings interest never exceeded 10%. Danganya toto jinga.
Only very deep pocketed individuals could negotiate higher rates, and even these would average 12%.
And I've just checked several Tanzanian banks.
Their fixed deposit interest rates are even lower than Kenya currently.
They are offering below 8%.

Depo rate in Tz right now is 5-7% points above BoT lending rate of 7% which is very fair considering JPM has let banks that are struggling to die off naturaly instead of giving them taxpayer money in a rescue plan.

The rest of us are attracting the investment due to making the country friendly to the investors though we have no major natural resources.
