Majority of railway companies in the world even in America (Amtrak), Denmark (Dsb), Germany(Deutsche bahn) do not make a profit and are run on the bill of the tax payer, but they do provide an essential catapult to other economic activities. The sgr in kenya has increased tourist numbers to the effect that Hotels register 95% occupancy even in low seasons, efficiency at mombasa port has increased ten fold i.e Due to the sgr mombasa port handles more cargo than what the recent expansion forsaw. small business people can now go for meetings in Mombasa and return to nairobi the same day. Time is money and the sgr made sure business is optimized between Mombasa and Nairobi.

Stupid as usual, then why your government reported loss in the first year of operation?, why Chinese are operating for some years untill they get their money back, if it doesn't make profit where will they get their money from?. Why China decided not to fund the remaining section from Naivasha to Malaba?

The Kenyan sgr boosted GDP by 1.5% in 2018, it is estimated it will boost by another 2% in 2019. It is paying for itself just not directly, but it is lifting other economic activities like tourism and real estate.

Of course I do not expect a Tanzanian to understand finance or to even understand how to handle leverage.
Also China agreed to fund from Naivasha to Kisumu, the rest we will do it with or without a loan.

A review by a world traveller on trip advisor:
We just got back from 2 weeks in Tanzania. Everything was great, except for our experience at the airports. Kilimanjaro, Dar Es Salaam & Zanzibar. The "customer service" & airport staff were a complete joke! Even by African standards. Particularly when trying to leave Zanzibar on Precision Air (avoid this airline at ALL costs)
The workers are rude, non responsive & lazy. Actually saw 3 people sleeping on their desks when trying to ask questions about our flight since there's next to no flight info at the airport. At Zanzibar they tried changing the baggage weight allowance, even though we had a copy of the allowance e from their website & even found a copy of it on the airport walls. They wouldn't have it. They even threatened to kick us out of the airport after we had the audacity to ask for their names & to speak to the supervisor. Several times we would ask them questions & they wouldn't even resond.
In the end we had to pay so we could get out of there. Horrible experience dealing with horrible people. Left a very bad taste in my mouth
