Tungelinganishwa na Rwanda hivi sidhani yaliyosemwa hapa yangejitokeza. Natamani sana ifike siku ambapo watanzania na wakenya tutajadili maswala yanayotuafiki rationally bila kutanguliza chuki na lawama kwasababu havitatufikisha popote!!

Tukiendelea hivi, tutaignore hata pointi nyingine za maana ambazo zingejenga nchi. Hoteli zinazosemekana kuwa na huduma mbovu za Tz na Kenya zijirekebisha, hamna aliyeperfect kati yetu, mwisho wa siku wote tuko among least developed nations, the least we can do ni kujengana na kuinuana!

I agree we are behind SA and that is because of our flawed economic policies during the years. We had bad governance and the decisions made were very pathetic. I blame our leaders and that's why we want a new constitution to change the way the government is run. At least we are doing something about it.

You should be questioning your leaders to tell you why you are lagging behind a nation half your size that doesn't have any valuable resources.

I agree my brother... at the end of it all we are all human beings. What matters the most is how we relate with each other. We cannot be perfect or the same. What we must do is to ensure we learn from one another and accept our differences without insults.

Tanzania is a great country and with great people and from experiences there have been pleasant. I was last there in November and the improvement is great.

Here in Kenya we learnt our lessons in 2007 for promoting hate against our fellow brothers. It was a tough lesson but we are learning and recovering from it. It took the intervention of former president Mkapa and president Kikwete for our leaders to sober up.

For that we will always be grateful for our neighbours TZ. You were there for us in our time of need.

You are changing constitution willingly or a reflex from sanction threats is pushing you to change? Be grateful the Donor countries plus Obama are there to push you otherwise there is nothing you can boast of!

My brother we are doing it willingly and it's entirely a kenyan process. Over 1 million kenyans have given their opinions and a final draft is being prepared. This draft will have to undergo a referendum process for it to be adopted.

By the way this process started even before obama became a senator. A draft prepared by the political elite to further their own selfish ends was defeated in an earlier referendum.

I am not aware of any sanction threats against Kenya. Kindly update me. Infact the donor countries are against the change because of the new land policy which will do away with the 999 year leases on land they acquired ( mainly britons ) during the colonial times.

Although I am a proud to be Kenyan I humbly accept that we are not where we are supposed to be at this time in history. We have been fucked inside out by the western countries and the sooner we realise it the better we will be.

This go-getting attitude has often been confused with greed. But after visiting Tanzania, I am beginning to wonder if it is not precisely this attitude that has kept the Kenyan economy going even in the worst of times. And nowhere is this more evident than in the hospitality industry.

Like Kenya, Tanzania is blessed with physical beauty, ample wildlife and sandy beaches. In terms of tourism, it is Kenya's closest rival after South Africa. But in terms of human resources, particularly in the hospitality and services industries, it lags way behind Kenya.

My own experience during a short visit to Dar es Salaam was enough to convince me that Kenyan hotels need not fear competition from Tanzania because they manage to do one critical thing right - they train their staff to respond to a clients' needs.

In Dar es Salaam, I could barely get the attention of the receptionist at the front desk of the hotel, nor could I expect things that I take for granted in Kenyan hotels, such as room service. At first I thought it was because I did not use the magic word "Naomba" often enough. But repeated use of the word did not yield results.

On its Website, the hotel claimed to be four-star, but the only four-star thing about it was the clean, crispy bed sheets and the bathtub. The owner clearly had big ambitions, but failed on the small details.

For instance, there was no bedside lamp for reading in the room and the TV had only one international channel. In the dining area, there were too few waiters, and it was almost impossible to get their attention.

Quite often it was difficult to predict exactly when dinner would be served as it varied from any time between 7 and 9pm. This was extremely frustrating for the clients with small children.

The décor and design of the hotel also left a lot to be desired. The swimming pool area, for instance, was stripped of all trees, which made swimming unpleasant as the water heated up to almost 30 degrees in the blazing sun.

MY SWEDISH COLLEAGUES WHO were staying in the same hotel were even more frustrated. A few of them almost missed their ferry to Zanzibar because the taxi-driver booked the day before arrived an hour later than expected.

Do I sound like an arrogant self-righteous Kenyan? Maybe. But I highlight these shortcomings, not because I want to feel smug about Kenya, but because I think Tanzania is going to lose a lot of tourism revenue if it continues like this.

We can't entirely blame Tanzanians for the state of their hospitality industry. Until the early 1990s, the country operated like most socialist states with a heavily subsidised and centralised systems that left little room for risk-taking and innovation. This meant that a civil service mentality pervaded all industries.

When the economy was liberalised, it was not accompanied by human resources development. People were not trained to compete in the free market system. For instance, Tanzania has no training college for hotel staff. There is no Utalii College, as in Kenya, that churns out chefs, waiters, receptionists or housekeepers.

Moreover, the Tanzanian economy is heavily donor-dependant, which has created its own problems. I was told, for instance, that the Tanzanian participants in the conference I was attending expected to receive a daily allowance simply for being there. This would be unheard of in Kenya, especially if the conference is among peers belonging to the same profession.

Donor dependence has created a citizenry that looks to foreigners to solve their problems. It has also stifled entrepreneurship and hindered economic development.

Perhaps in the spirit of the East African Community (and the future political federation), Kenya could offer Tanzania a helping hand through training of people working within the hospitality industry or via exchange programmes between hotels in both countries.

In return, Tanzanians could instil in Kenyans a sense of solidarity or Utu. God knows, Kenya could use a dose of kindness and co-operation right now.

My brother... All africa's problems revolve around land. In kenya 1% of the population owns about 95% of the land. When the british colonialists left the country they signed off 999 year land leases to their citizens in Kenya. (e.g. the delamere family) This land is mainly in rift-valley and central kenya. Thats why there are so many clashes there.

They got these leases by hoodwinking our politicians with large tracks of land. esp. the Kenyatta family for protection. Some of the politicians own entire districts. These has only left few areas with suitable land for sale.

It's the reason why Kenyan's are flocking into TZ in search of land. My advice to all is that all the east-africans should support the kenyan peoples cause of getting a new land policy which will free a lot of land for the citizens to settle. If this does not happen and with the population boom more people will definately try to look for resources elsewhere.

So next time you see a kenyan trying to survive even in TZ be gentle and just understand that at the end of the day you have to put food on the table.

You are truely Certfied. If all Kenyans were honest and analytical as you, we wouldn't be where we are with Smatta and Nomasana. It's like me if i argue, that Tanzania is free of corruption, when actually that is what our leaders from the 3rd phase govt up to now are best at! And they do it with impunity! very iresponsible! By the way, Smatta and Nomasana, you say Kenya is lagging behind because of corruption and fewer resources while TZ should be ahead because of peace and minimum corruption, who told you that TZ isn't corrupt! Na walisema kwamba you will be more comfortable kukaa kwenye hotels za Dar for that amount of money than anywhere in Kenya, even in a village...!
Sasa kwenye service there is no doubt kwamba we really need to improve and i see some improvements, lakini ndugu zangu ambao hamjafika Kenya please do not think you will find magic in there. Nairobi ni chafu...! just one km radius ya city center utakuta mitaa michafu ambayo watu wanakojoa kwenye kuta za nyumba na kunanuka you can not imagine...!
Ukilinganisha hoteli za Tanzania na Kenya utagundua kuwa 5 star hotels yes Kenya wanazo na pia services ni nzuri, but hizo sana sana wanakaa watalii matajiri sana or executives, hoteli za kiwango cha kati is just a shame...lakini Tanzania na hii ni pamoja na mikoani kuna hoteli nyingi sana ambazo ni nzuri na za kiwango ambacho ni affordable and you will be more comfortable compared to kENYA where if you want to be comfortable you have to spend 100 USD plus kuenjoy a good hotel.

we were liberating southern Africa countries while Kenya played a collaboration role. While u got pumpered we got isolated by the West. Mining started early 2000.
