This was the first tweet I saw on my timeline today and in light to current events in my life, rather events that are about to go down, I found it to be a rather interesting question that brought up other questions in my mind.
Is there happiness? And if so, why is there a secret to attaining it? And if it is a secret, assuming we are going with the definition of "secret" that states that it is information known only to one or two persons does it mean that no one except two people (at most) know it in the entire world?
i do not believe in happiness. At some point in my life I was naive enough to believe that happiness is a state of mind that one can arrive to. A destination that requires a map, a campus maybe a bit of faith here and there to attain. Happiness is an emotion and I believe that emotions are fleeting ergo happiness cannot be a destination.
We spend so much time trying to please others and make others "happy" so much so that we forget where we are as individuals. We can never be enough or complete for people. By pleasing ourselves and trying to make ourselves happy, doing what we please as individuals we will always hurt other people.
Why is it that our worth as individuals is based on the few things we do "wrong" or the few pleasures we allow ourselves as opposed to the things we do right?
There is no way to be "happy" unless we decide to be selfish with ourselves. There is no happiness that comes from giving yourself and sacrificing yourself for the sake of other people.
if there is indeed a concept such as "happiness", I'd like to think that those that have arrived there decided to discard all pretences and sacrifice of the self to please others.
