Ummy Mwalimu is fighting for her political survival and relevance collecting the "evidence" to disqualify her rivals.
Nobody in CCM likes to meet the electorate in the ballot box these days for chama cha baba na mama... There's genuine fear in CCM top brass from risking facing the wrath of voters and every effort is taken to avoid them. This is very weird for a ruling party which has been hitting high decibels about Tanzania mpya ya.........na tumefanya mambo makubwa ambayo tangu uhuru hayajawahi kufanyika!
We knew this is no ordinary election but little were we prepared for this! The aura of invincibility and inevitability now in tatters as the disqualification of a sitting president looms large and he is the first president in our history to face a challenge in his presidential bid.
Unless he provides concrete reasons against the objections raised we may find we have an outgoing president sooner than we can imagine
Legally, he can but the new commissioners will have no jurisdiction to review their own ruling as that power is in the hands of the High Court. There's no law or regulation authorising NEC a second bite to chew own rulings so replacing of NEC, not a solution at all beyond getting even!
Apart from legal landmines there's a political storm of rigging his way back to the ballot box so he must give adequate riposte or accept being knocked out for good!
We saw JK in his last presidential bid went to see the then chief Justice Augustine Ramadhan to get the necessary signature but we saw no such attempt in this case
