Nairobi leads Africa’s top 20 cities as the place with the highest spending growth rate in the entertainment scene.
This revelation is contained in a PricewaterhouseCoopers survey of the continent’s top cities.
This increase was calculated from an entertainment expenditure of Sh28 billion in 2013 which has been consistently increasing at a 12.5 percent growth rate.
The growth rate that PwC has estimated will run to 2018 has been attributed to a new Nairobian middle class seeking to catch up on many of the products and services that developed urbanites take for granted.
“Our survey of 15,000 PwC people in the 30 cities (including 116 in Nairobi) gives a good sense of the potential for entertainment and media. Nairobians are #1 among the 30 cities in discretionary spending for either technology (32 percent) or the home (37 percent). They are tied for #2 in prioritising spending on books, movies, and games – with 24 percent citing that category among their top 3 choices for discretionary spending,” the report reads.
Nairobi is also highly rated as the top African destination for foreign investments in the report released Wednesday.
Other cities with ratings in different sectors are Cairo with the best infrastructure, Tunis in Tunisia has the best human capital, while Casablanca is highly rated in economics.

Wanamuziki wa nje wanakuja Kenya kubeba mabegi ya pesa wanasepa. Kenya ni kama England, the best premiere league, but the worse national team. Kinachofanyika Kenya ni kama chombo cha kuwavusha wanamuziki wa nchi nyingine lakini sio wanamuziki wa nyumbani. Wanamuziki wenu wanalakamika kika siku hawabebwi na vituo vya nyumbani. Wanamuziki wa Kenya walikuwa wanashangaa wakija Tanzania wanakuta hakuna ubaguzi wa TV au Redio kupiga nyimbo za Tanzania na EA. Kwanza Kenya hawakuamini kama unaweza kuimba kwa kiswahili na ukauza. Wanaosema muziki wa Tanzania hauiziki mmejaribu kwenda iTunes, Google music, Spotify??? Unafikiri watanzania wangepoteza mahela mengi kutengeneza world class music videos kama wangekuwa hawaingizi pesa??
